That's kind of a vague question. Perhaps if you tell us how you keep dying, we'll be able to give some tips on how to avoid that sort of death next time.

One question I'll ask immediately, though, is what class/race combination you favour. Some are much harder than others. The two combinations I'd recommend are Trollish Healer and Drakish Wizard. Trollish Healers are great at whacking monsters to death, like all trolls, and also heal incredibly fast. All Wizards are great at spellcasting, and Drakelings are physically tougher than most other races and have some handy skills.

I like very much gnome druids and elementalists but gray elven wizards work fine too.

Those are all fairly good combinations, but perhaps a little fragile in the early game. Stick with the spellcasters, since you like them and they'll really come into their own later on, but try a hardier race like Human or Drakeling. (Dwarves and Trolls are also tough, but not much good at magic.)

Are you having problems finding enough food? If you are, then playing something with the Food Preservation skill (like a Human or Drakeling) will help, because monsters will leave corpses more often. (You do know that most corpses are edible, don't you?)

Do you know about the Tactics command? Except when you're engaging in physical combat, it's wise to use Coward tactics so that monsters have a harder time hitting you.

Are you remembering to pray when about to die? Your god will heal you a couple of times before getting annoyed.

I'd recommend Andy Williams' Guidebook to you for detailed spoilers, but it seems to be down at the moment.

What Ekaterin said...

About food, too... Go to the main dungeon first chance you get (the one in the middle of the mountains) and go to level 4 or 5, where there's an arena. There'll be ratlings selling food there; buy the lizards and the bats (lizards are best) and your food problem should be solved for a while at least... they restock just like shopkeepers, by the way. Oh, and if you're short on cash you can always fight in the arena (but stop short of becoming the champion, it's a Dwarven Quest and the opponent is always tough) in order to get money for food.

One reason Iridia warned you not to become the champion yet is that you might have to fight the invisible ogre magus :-) If you have any item that grants see invisible, wear it. Cold resistance will help as well.

Have you been to the Pyramid yet? The ancient mummy wrapping grants see invisible and cold immunity, among other nice intrinsics. I always leave the last Arena fight until after the Pyramid so that I can wear the AMW.

By the way, the ADOM Guidebook is back up, if you want to look at the spoilers there.

The second level of the Pyramid? You don't need to dig to get there, just search around for secret doors. A blessed scroll of magic mapping might help show you where to search.

After I tried many combunations, I finally got to the HMV. How to I kill the stone giants? What spell is more effective on him: fire ball(bolt),the frost bolt or Earthquake?

Earthquake is used to cause cave walls to collapse in dungeons, maybe squashing a few beasties...
As far as the Stone Giant (or Lord, heaven help you!), early in the game it's best to run away. Or just keep hitting him with a bolt/ball spell, alawys trying to keep a few paces ahead of him, though he can still pound you to pulp with those boulders...

Thanks. It really helped.About the Earthquake, I went to the arena and I used Earthquake in a cave.
It slained all my enemies. I've got the golden gladiar or how do you call it. When should I use it. It's better to fight a hydra with what spells?

Dude, Iīve played ADOM for two years now, and I havenīt finished the game yet. lvl 42 gnomish priest and the Mana temple was the furthest place Iīve ever got. I donīt play it because I want to finish it. I play it because it is ADOM.

My best was a lv. 20 gnome elementalist. I was until lv. 25-26 in the CoC but a Moloch started fighting and I ran away. I was so scared. I was invisible and I could teleport myself because I drank from a pool.I landed in the middle of a vault. Lucky me I was invisible.

Ha! I have played for about 2,5 years now (or how long it is from Gamma 16...) and my best char (non-cheated) is either lvl 12 grey elf elementalist who survived to Khel and a few levels down form there, or lvl 12 hurthling weaponsmith who drowned in UD:8. That hurthling had quite good stuffs to be in that stage of game...(Diadem of beauty, adamantium med. shield (+4,+4) and such).

Level 12 is kind of low to be meeting Khel - I usually seem to be level 13 before I even get to the Caverns of Chaos. Had you been through the SMC and UD and done all the Terinyo quests? I tend to do all that before entering the CoC.

Also, was it the Water Temple that killed your grey elf elementalist? It killed my first character to get there too, but fire magic is really useful there.

Well, been playing over 2 years also and best char was a Dwarven Paladin (try them.. they rule!) lvl 50, getting to lvl 50 of the Coc.. i know, i was close to winning, but my char had no chance against all those balors and stuff.. i just seem to get to the end without being enough powerful, even at lvl 50... i think my major problem is not getting my stats high enough.. and i really would like to know how you guys manage to get those 60+ in the stats!! i never even get close to that!

aren't Dwarven Paladins the best??

Try gambling the casino for millions and millions of gold and train with garth. That's slow but does the job. Toughness isn't that easy to come by nowdays because undead corpses don't always increase it. You could try wearing a ring of weakness and eating giant corpses or something, I hear it works for strength. Dexterity you can get from scumming the blue dragon caves for their corpses(and you might find many many potions too).

Dwarven Pallies can be nice, but if you meet a claw bug in the early game, then you're dead. (and their almost guaranteed in SMC&UD)
Nothing beats Dark Elven Barbarians!

That's the point - pick the most frail and magic-user like race, and make it a big brute that can't cast spells :)

DEs are okay warriors albeit pretty weak in the beginning. But they have good skills like alertness and find weakness and can go toe-to-toe with ghosts wihtout fear of dying in two hits.

Elven priests are one of the easiest classes to play, at least for me. Detect item status is so nice because I want to try out every single new item I find in case it's something special and usually end up wearing six to seven cursed things which I can't take off. And they have great skills like healing and herbalism
