I'm playing a troll paladin - quite a nice char, going very well, but I've got a problem - how can I get experience points with such a char? On lvl9 I've saved Khelly, on lvl11 I've finished all dwarven quests (including Griff & Nonnak). How can I get some experience? I can't even go to the pyramid! I visited SMC, UD, VD, PC and CoC down to Khelly. I'm afraid the graveyard in CoC will be a bit difficult right now. Any suggestions? Please help!

Suggestions? DON'T go to the graveyard :) Trolls often get aged to death in one hit...

Does your paladin have a source of invisibility and a bolt spell? If you're not averse to killing a few bugs, they're a good source of experience. Watch out for killer bugs...

Of course, a trollish paladin mightn't be quite up to spellcasting yet... so if you have to, do levels 8 and 9 of the ID repeatedly.

And once you get to level 13 you could go for the Pyramid...

The Tomb of the High Kings is always good for lots of experience, though you do get an occasional *TOUGH* beastie. But if you have a decent melee attack (A good missle weapon wouldn't hurt either...), you should be fine. The constant monster generation is a huge plus for experience starved characters. But, if you don't feel up to the Tomb, the cavernous room before Dwarftown is always good, just takes a lot longer, since the monsters generated are not usually worth much experience.

Thanks for your help. My troll is lvl13 now. I scummed the big room in CoC, than cleared the Pyramid. Now I would need some more experience :). Meanwhile I've dug up a random grave in dwarven graveyard (not the great treasures one) and I've found an ordinary ring - a RoDS. I think that's called luck :). Any advice what should I spend the wish on? I hestitate between 7lb boots and scrolls of education. No SoCR are needed because I have those from Khelly. I think that rings of ice would be a waste of wish too.

The 7LB would be my choice, if you to pick one of those two. Or maybe some nice eternium plate mails, or Red Dragon Scale mails. Or if have a preferred weapon type, get some eternium varitey of that weapon (maybe you'll get lucky and have an ego weapon generated!)

I chose 7lb's. Nice outcome - 2 pairs of uncursed +1 +0, blessed +1 +0 and blessed +4 +0.

That's the best outcome I've seen for a wish for 7LB's. The best I've received was 2 uncursed (+0,+0) and 1 uncursed (+4,+0).

Now I'm lvl 16. Cleared the Darkforge (nothing interesting, just Staff of Archmagi, I don't need it anyway), graveyard in CoC and all levels down to wall of flames. Got crowned with Hammer of the gods (useless crap, I prefer Big Punch) and cleared the Water Temple. And I need more XP!!!

lvl 17 - got RotHK. And I need more than 300000xp to advance to level 18. That's ridiculous!

If you can breathe water, go and kill the water dragon. IIRC my drakish priest (RIP...*sniff*) jumped from lvl26 to lvl29 or so... That should give you experience nicely. Just cast darkness and whack her. If you can survive her first attack that is...

First attack? How? Go 2 her, cast darkness, attack her and she doesn't even see who's killing her (tell Blup before you kill her).

I'm not killing that poor dragon! That's lame! If I was going to kill her, I'd give her a chance in duel.

Anyway, I'm lvl 20 now, got water and fire orbs, have permanet invisibility & teleport control, and I fight with Purifier and emerald dagger (cleared a greater vault with giants). Maces on lvl 13, I have a fair chance of achieving Grandmastery. I have also Ring of the Master Cat (for the first time!) and there is Preserver in the Casino. Now I MUST win (I wonder what I have to do to don't lose :)))

Yes, he is :). It would be 3:0 if I was watching the HP. But I didn't - "Severly wounded! Yes! Get the bastard! Critically! Now you'll die! And what's that? Shit! Nooooooooo!!!"

I have to post this char in HoF - If I could win that I'd probably kill balors in melee... Sniff :)

Ehhh Guinea good exp for trolls is in ToEF. Just naked in invis fighting with demons, giants and red dragons... Hmmm Minotaur Maze is a good place to just care on Minotaur mages, humanoid slaying ammo roolez. When you need lots of exp level 30-45 only deep in Infinity you can find lots of balors and greater moloch, sometimes in DH. In blue dragon cave troll can fast get one max to levels ... And hmmm Tempel of earth...

Doesn't casting 'slow monster' on yourself increase the experience you get?

Nope, it's increase your score on the end of game.... Only if you didn't boost your speed... No quickling and bug food:( Than your score is higher...

BM, you're wrong. It increases amount of exp you get. I heard it's very useful to slow yourself (boots of the slow shuffle help) when fighting someone tough (orb guardians balors and such) because you get enourmous amounts of exp... but very dangerous though.

Hmmmmm I heard only if you didn't increase your speed than your finaly score is higher... Finaly score is reduced by PC speed.... But hmmmm in this way if you are weak you get more exp... Because fight is tought... Hmmmmmm ADOM is hard game where Death follow you;)

Death doesn't follow you. She's always one step ahead of you ;P
If you're afraid of dieing while slowed, then get though monsters to critical, and then kill them when slowed

That's surely TRUE, that experience you gain
directly depends upon your speed. The higher your
speed is - less experience you receive. And the
penalties are quite severe, e.g. if you have speed
about 200, your experience is divided by about 10 times!

The best tactics I found to solve this problem is
the following one, but it works only if your speed
is not above 300:

Find a really tough monster (greater moloch, balor, orb guardian, etc.), do *NOT* slow him.
Hit him until he is critically wounded and you
are sure, that you have to hit him 1-4 times more
to kill. Then run away but not far(better teleport). Next, slow YOURSELF and wear the boots
of slow shuffle if present(more general: lower your speed to value about 70-100). If you manage to kill the monster in that state, you can
receive a HUGE amount of exps.

Examples: I killed greater molochs with such tactics and received about 2 000 000 per one kill.
The ancient blue wyrm gave me more than 3 000 000.

Enjoy!
