Did a bit of quick testing and got the heir talent with ever class of character to see what they got. If you don't know, you need to have 3 talent choices at the start of the game to get the Heir talent choice, first you need to select Boon To The Family, then Charming and this will enable you to select Heir.

I used gnomes for all tests.

AFAIK archers get only either arrows, rocks or quarrels. Nothing else, as in no throwing clubs, drakish scurgars etc.

For Hurthling Druids (at least for one :D) the Yellow leather of balance is [+2, +5], so this may be diffrent for other races, or the DV/PV may be random.

If the base item is the same then maybe the DV/PV can change like if you found it in the dungeon where there is something like +/- 3 to normal values sometimes.

Sorry, the paladin's mithril sword should also be Lawful.

What does everyone think is the most useful item?

well, how much do the empowered and of health modifiers affect healing, and whatever empowerment helps. power points? if those make an actual difference those are good. other than that the bard is best i think, definately. but bards don't get much else, unless you're a grey elf, you get a dragon :), those are nice.

The problem with bard + Heir is that you have to wait for your pets, because with 7lbs you're twice faster than them.

The blessed empowered robes make a great difference in the early game when your concentration is not 100. It really speeds up mana regeneration.
