I made an elementalist, and I started with a blessed brass ring. I think it may be a RoDS, how do I use it?

Sorry, it's not a Ring of djinni summoning. Brass ring is always a plain brass ring, nothing more. When you encounter a blessed RoDS, 'U'se it. The djinni will grant you a wish and the ring will be turned into a brass ring.

Oh. Damn. It would have been so kick-ass to start with a blessed RoDS. Right off-

I'm right now playing my first game where ordinary ring is really a RoDS. Every time earlier with me it's been a ring of damage.

I've seen only a couple of RoDS and in every game it was a diffrent ring (ordinary and mithril are the ones I remember)

For me RoDS has always been ordinary ring, except once: My gnomish fighter identified an onyx ring as RoDS.

Is there more so called defaults? I can remember some:

Ruby amulet = Pendant of beauty
Silver amulet = Amulet of defense
Glass amulet = Amulet of light
Glass wand = Wand of door creation
Wooden ring = Ring of fire resistance
Worn boots = Seven league boots
Bone bracers = Bracers of toughness

Wrong! I've just found worn boots (20s) and they were boots of speed (+8 spd).

Always when I've got an amulet of life saving it's been a steel amulet, but that's maybe three times. Last time I found a steel amulet it was an amulet of greed.

braces are always the same:
bone= of toughness
bronze= of speed
copper= of protection
silver= of defense
steel= of regeneration
iron= of resistance
shining silver = of war ;P

(not sure 'bout those of regen and of res, but I'm 100% sure about the rest)

It sometimes helps to know what materials items are made of. E.g. an RoDS is always made of adamantium. I have a theory that unidentified appearances are always the same material too. That is, an ordinary ring is always made of adamantium, and therefore can only ever be one of the adamantium types of ring (djinni summoning, damage, fire and slaying). This doesn't help identify AoLS, because it's made of iron, like most amulets.

An amulet of order is virtually always a marble amulet, but in one of my games it was an obsidian amulet! (They're probably both adamantium, but that was still weird.)

Maelstrom, are you absolutely sure that an RoDS was a mithril ring? In what version? I have never had a mithril ring be anything other than a ring of ice.

I think I once had mithril be something else than a ring of ice(I think it was ring of damage), but didn't live long enough in that game to find out what ring of ice was.

RoI are usually mithril rings and that time i was about to go to ToEF, so i thought (that's how you spell think's past form?) "yey! a Ring of Ice" (BTW - wished for Rings of Ice:P ).
It was either in Gamma 16 or in 1.0 (can't remember now)
