Does anybody know how to read a spellbook of Wish? I do the following: Eat until bloated, wait until satiated, bless the stomafillia herbs and eat them. Nonetheless i cannot read that goddamn book. PS. I do it with a L.36 Wizard ( Le 40 ) "I want ye to slay a female goblin slavemaster ghul. Return to me when you have succeded." |

Check my signature :P Never found a spellbook of wish... I know that there are rooms where you become hungry more slowly, you could try that. According to the guidebook, you can also drink berzion potions while bloated. What else? Get literacy to 100, don't use trolls (higher food consumption rate), use potions of boost learning... that's about all that I can think of. Taz: A potion of gain attributes (4s) is lying here. Suddenly a stone block hits your head! Something on the ground is smashed to pieces! PeanutGod: Awwww no! How harsh is that! This is where you need the artefact 'mop and bucket'. |

Potions of (potential) toughness work as well; in fact, all potions do to some extent or other. The rooms which slow down food consumption give a message about "rich flavor" something-or-other whenever you enter them. Die Gedanken sind Frei |

in fact, it was thought for a long time (in the guidebook) that it completely stopped food consumtion, but that was later changed. i guess that shows you how much it helps. even if you did end up reading it, you probably wouldnt get to cast it. and even if you did what would you wish for by that time? So have I (with a gnomish wizard IIRC). It DID take a long time but I was nowhere near to starving. Had no chance of casting it, though... Sytytä toiselle tuli ja hän pysyy lämpimänä jonkin aikaa. Sytytä hänet palamaan ja hän pysyy lämpimänä loppuelämänsä. |

try reading in the catlord level if you have teleportitis. no message to break your concentration. it doesn't surprise me that you couldn't read it with learning of 40...it's definately possible though. closer to 50 would obviously help. try the crown of science, but that dooms you so the luck my work against you, dunno if it does with spellbooks. make sure to wear helms and rings of mental stability |

I've only found the spellbook once, but when I did, it was no problem to read it. I went to Terinyo (no hostiles or corruption) and stood on the island (I don't know if that helps, but it can't hurt). I ate to get Bloated, then as soon as I went to Satiated, I ate a blessed Stomafilla, then read it (not wearing any artifacts). I was still Satiated when I finished. Incidentally, the messages from the shop were rather annoying, and since I had Listening at 100 already, I should probably have done it in the Barbarian glade or somewhere. |

You'd still get annoying messages about the weather, wouldn't you? I think it would be best to pacify the big room (i.e. create a sealed-off section full of worms so no more monsters generate - see the Guidebook for details) and read the spellbook there to avoid getting any messages. |

The good/great book learner talents could help. You pick up the Blessed Amulet of Life Saving. Waldenbrook, the dwarven shopkeeper, slowly turns toward you. "That will cost you.. ..your soul" |

Has anyone tried it with a monk or farmer? They both need only 50% food, so that might work. What do you wish for? wands of cat repellent_ |

Don't wear artifacts, they increase food consumption. I've read the book, but never have casted it after reading. Besides, the loss of 10 points in random attribute is pretty heavy. |

I think somebody has made a char starve in a rich flavour room, but without wearing 3 invisibility granting items and 10 artifacts you will definately be able to read a Wish book in one, if you meet the other requirements of course. Berzio potions and toughness potions are good to drink after eating the stomafillia, they give a lot of nutrition. That has probably been said already, but, well, I have to add my 2 cents to every topic in here, so... If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away. Actually reading spellbook of wish is not that hard if one is suitably prepared. My wannabe-archmage (yes, I'm still playing him. Getting more powerful all the time) found his second spellbook of wish at around ID200. Since satiation stacks just like strength of atlas I drank ALL my berzio potions and read several scrolls of satiation (blessed, of course) before reading. Despite wearing several artifacts (at least 4) I still managed to read it not one, not two but ***THREE*** times without even going unbloated. And even a ***LONG*** time after that the char was still bloated. At this stage the only monsters that are a threat to that char are ancient blue dragons (after killing 5000+ of them they are getting quite tough), greater molochs and doppelganger kings. But ABDs are easily dealt with by death ray as are DKs (though they are also helpless in the dark) and GMs are so slow (compared to the char, with speed at almost 700) only severe carelessness could threaten the char. Finding (and reading) that spellbook helped a lot. Now the char only needs 9000 PP to cast wish from book. Getting that amount is still gonna take a while but I'm not in a hurry... J. I was just thinking (yeah, really strange, me thinking) but do you have the great book caster talent? It would make it easier :D And also, if you would cast it like a million times, you'd get better at it and need perhaps only 4500pp to cast :P Klavert -I want ye to slay a rat to prove your valor- Thrundarr That really happened to me :D |

Klavert (supposing you were talking to me): No, I don't have it. This is 1.0.0 I'm playing and as we all know 1.0.0 doesn't have talents. And second, AFAIK casting from book doesn't increase spell effectiviness. Anyway, by the time I get to the point where I can cast wish from book even with all stats at 1 I can keep wishing for power over and over again and raise my PP to tens of thousands, HP to thousands, speed to 2000 (AFAIK there is no effective improvement beyond that), get all skills to maximum, have all weapon stats at Grand Mastery (actually I already have daggers, swords, maces/flails and polearms at GM and whips at level 14), get dozens of AoLS...(yadda yadda)...and get enough PoGA to raise all stats back to 99. Real J. - the max effective speed is determined by the energy cost of the action you want to do. In terms of normal moves, the max effective speed is 1000 (because it costs 1000 energy points to move, and at speed 1000 you can do that action every turn). But you still can get benefits from speed over 1000 if you do things that cost more energy then 1000 (like class powers and such). A pessimist sees a dark tunnel. An optimist sees a light at the end of that tunnel. A realist sees a train. And the train driver sees three idiots on the tracks. Latest status: After returning from the ID trip, uncursing all wands, regaining the mana battery corruption and draining/recharging/redraining all wands PP with armor of power is 7500+. I still have a bunch of carrot juice and water to create some 50+ potions of booze so I should be able to raise PP easily by some 120+ points. Then onto wishing tour... J. Casting from a book takes what, triple the time than normal casting? So maybe you should get your speed up to 3000? Just an idea :) Dual-wielding ultra-heavy heavy maces could also be slow, IIRC the weight of the weapons affects the energy cost as well as the to-hit malus. If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away. I memorized wish - And even cast it. After escorting the old barbarian to the village, I had his quiet grove all for myself. I was a gray elven wizard so I didn't have that bad an apatite and I was a Cup sign - I think they learn spells better. So Being bloated and ending up starving did it - And ofcourse, the book dissolved just then - leaving me with 1 casting point for it. But it's casting the spell that is the real murderer. I had to drink everything I could lay my hands on - IN THE CORRECT ORDER and casting all busters possiable, to finaly survive it with 1 extra hit point. It was all very dramatic - But since I was poorly skilled with that spell - I couldn't get anything proper (AKA - another wish spellbook) from it. Dissapointing - Yet satisfying. |

You can't get spellbooks of wish, rings of djinnii summoning, wands of wishing or plain wishes no matter how high your skill in the spell is, because wishes cannot be wished for. And for that matter, the power of that spell does not affect if you get what you wish or not. You can wish for powerful items as long as they are valid wishes. |

Do you still get your wish after dying from the spell with a AOLS on? Haven't tried the Wish spell in a while.
