What can you do with a plain blanket?
I've read that they can be polymorphed.
What does that mean and how do you do it?

You can polymorph items by dipping them into either potion of exchange or potion of raw chaos. I wouldn't recommend the !oRC-way as there is the risk of explosion (plenty of damage and lots of corruption). If you try the !oEx-way make sure the potion is blessed, otherwise the transformation may be only temporary (that's what I've heard, haven't tried non-blessed ones myself). Also, dipping plain blankets may not result in very useful items but at least they should be more useful than plain blankets (completely useless AFAIK). You could also try dipping rings (up to 19 at a time) and might get lucky and get 19 RoDS that way (I did once).

You can cover a pit with a plain blanket (and make it a pit trap, that you know about).

No, you "U"se it, when you are on the trap (not inside the pit, but when you get the "you sidestep the trap" message - or whatever it was on the pits).
Like a RoDS.

What's the difference between a covered pit and a not-covered pit?

If it's a covered pit, the trap is concealed and anyone walking past it has a bigger chance of triggering it.

Now if you have a pickaxe, you can dig holes and cover them with blankets, thus creating your own trap. Very cool! How about having some sort of trap-creating equipment that you could use to make your own arrow trap or spear trap(provided that you have arrows or spears) or even fireball trap(using gems of fire!)? Would make for some fun role-playing with thieves!

Very clever :)

I'll have to make an assassin or something to be evil with. Could you do this in Dwarftown? ;) Would it make people hostile?

Traps always make people hostile(not sure about that, but companions tend to)...unless they die from them. :)

We already have the Wand Of Trap Creation, but making your own traps is a nice addition to the game. There's a suggestion for TB.

I've found that if you dip a plain blanket into an oil of rust removal, it will turn it into a waterproof plain blanket. I wonder if this will be the same as a regular waterproof blanket. (preventing water damage to other things)

You can also dip any clothing (robes, cloths, boots...etc) and they will become water proof, although I don't know what good it does.

That one you made up.
THere's no such thing as "waterproof", just "rustproof", and only iron items can get rustproofed.

You are wrong, iron items are rustproof (and other metals, don't remember for sure), others are waterproof (try it on a spellbook if you don't believe me). I did not make it up, it is true. And for the blanket, I don't think TB even thought someone would try it, but it can be done.
IIRC I tested this with 1.1.1. too, cheated a WoW (wished for water and oils of rust removal) and memory edited the amount of inventory items I had. So every item I got was first blessed, then waterproofed/rustproofed.

A waterproof plain blanket cannot be damaged by water. Normal plain blankets can't be damaged by water either, so it's kind of useless. Could be somewhat useful to waterproof your spellbook of wishing or strength of atlas if you don't have a waterproof blanket.

Yes it is, also some scrolls if you need to lug them around. Hell, I remember even potions can be made waterproof. Artifacts can't be (of course) but after that, I believe anything can be made either waterproof or rustproof. Though rustproofing higher metals than iron is prolly not needed, they don't rust, right?.

Don't need to worry about water-proofing or rust-proofing artifacts anyway... they're not gonna get damaged.

Artefacts are indestructible. Nothing can change them, not even Gods.
And higher metals (mithril, adamantium, eterinium) don't rust. Eterinium also doesn't corrode.

I though plain blankets also protected your inventory from "crushing" (you know stone blocks, falling doors, falling down the rift), maybe that's just wishfull thinking though...
