exactly what is it with darkness, the spell?
It seems creatures can't cast spells at you, and they die more easily, but I'm not very fond of it.
what are the pros and cons of it?

It creates darkness. Many creatures can't see in the darkness and will be helpless in it.

The darkness from the spell isn't any diffrent then the natural darkness found in some rooms, so the cons are that you don't see anything, and the pros is that some creatures don't either.

An optimist sees a light at the end of that tunnel.
A realist sees a train.
And the train driver sees three idiots on the tracks.

Wouldn't be cool if elves could see in the dark with the infravision (undead notwithstanding)? Or perhaps have a bonus for elves (dark elves especially) when fighting in the dark?

Just a thought

I think dark elves, only, ought to have that bonus; they start out chaotic so that's enough of a balance already IMO.

it also balances with the fact that they cant see very far outside.
what about orcs? chaotic + short lifespan. but then, their sacrificing items are much more common

PeanutGod: Awwww no! How harsh is that! This is where you need the artefact 'mop and bucket'.

Hmm... well, you only have to really worry about saccing stuff two or three times in the game... so I'd say add orcs to the list. Has this been RFE'd?
