So - on level 1 of the Puppy Cave, I'm fighting a Harpy. I kill it, and it turns out it's "Broxendriar, the Harpy". Is this just the first time I've recognized that Harpies are named, or is this weird?

If you find named monsters in regular dungeon it's by sertain a "Surge of power" level.

In other words, it is guarding an artifact.
Be sure to pick up its entire inventory and identify it!

He doesn't have anything, the named monster is just a guardian - the artefact is lying somwhere on that level.

AND, if its artifact armor, they might now be wearing it. Be careful.

Point is, if they have it, and they can put it on, watch out for them.

Whew! Quite an adventure that was!

I wasn't able to find anything, and then the ants cornered and ate me on the next level... but I did enjoy the excitement of the moment - thank you for that :)

No whining here, I was honored by the opportunity to meet and subsequently slay Broxendriar ;-)

Ive only had one, and it was a ring of immunity. I didnt even have a chance. I was level 2 and the guardian was right next to the stairs. Died right away.

I've had about.... I'd say 30+. I get lucky often. Shirt of the Saints was my most recent one.

I've got 7 to 8 or something..
Hammerhead in ToEF is most recent.
Actually I have never encountered the ring of Immunity despite years of playing.

I encountered it during my first (save-scummed) win. It was very helpful, needless to say... I haven't seen it since then. Obviously, during the games I could really have used it, it was nowhere to be found!

I've also found it, from scumming a precrowning. But I did once find it without trying... in the top level of the ToEF. Mighty useful it is there... it's not like I could have used fire immunity BEFORE I went in or anything...

Larrack has never found the ring of immunity, and thinks its for wimps anyway.. If I found it, I would still choose a blessed ring of slaying over it.
