I know appearence and charisma affects the way NPC react to your character but has anyone noticed any quantitive effects on things like shop prices? just curious cuz a character of mine got a couple of PoGA changing Ch and Ap 15 and 14 respectively and resulted in a 3gp drop in the price of water in a potion shop. ain't much but it's the first time i've noticed it. it would be interesting to know how much of a difference all the drops in Ap due to corruptions really makes. sorry if this a repeated topic ;)

Its very noticeable for experienced players, especially in the price of your first large ration from munxip. I cannot give you a formula, but a ten point change in BOTH appearance and charisma seems to be about a double or halved price.

IIRC charisma affects shop prices for male chars and appearance for females.

Race is another BIG factor. Play a hurthling char up to dwarftown and compare the prices to shopping with a dark elf.

I always hate it when I'm playing a dwarf, and the shopkeeper in the bandit town is an orc, prices are about tripled. Especially when an artifact is generated in there.

the dark elf thing is a right pain cuz i really like dark elves :( and selling sis to waldenbrook is normally the easiest source of income. luckily Leggot or whaever his name is isn't normally so biased

Actually, racial prejudices seem to be far more influental than Ch/Ap. Bad for dark elves, good for dwarves. :-)

I've been playing dark elven wizards for the skills dark elves get, and yeah, I hate Waldenbrook. When selling unidentified items to him you have to remember to multiply what he offers you by ten, to keep an eye out for special items. I'm still waiting for an everything shop somewhere close to dwarftown with something a dark elf can get chummy with. I once got an orcish shopkeeper for an everything shop on the level below dwarftown, but... that was with a dwarf.

Btw, I had a nice opportunity to test that. My current char, DE assassin, got precrowned with crown of leadership {Ch +18}. Munxip's prices didn't drop a bit (33gp for an uncursed large ration in both cases). So, I guess, only racial prejudices are really taken into the account.

Have you tried other shops? Munxip might be special.

Yes, just tried that with the casino shop. No effect. Well, I guess I should also test some dungeon shop too, at least it should be absolutely "normal" in that there shouldn't be any special implications but Ch/Ap and racial prejudices...

well, in casino you can't haggle, so what makes you think he would lower the prices even if you were sean connery with charisma of 99?

Maastonakki, yeah, that might be correct. Also I should've tested selling prices. But if Ch/Ap only affects haggled prices, without lowering base prices, it is of little use anyway. I personally never bother training Haggling, and without that all I get is - "blah blah blah, perhaps I should even f...ing raise those f...ing prices!"

Is your char male?

Yes. So it's Ch that should matter, iirc. Ap matters for females, right?

Yes. That is really weird. I seem to recall very clearly how the prices changed at Waldenbrooks when I was playing a gnomish bard after he found the crown of leadership. It was a long while ago, but still.

So you looked at prices the shopkeepers had on their things, not when selling stuff of your own? Maybe there's a difference.

Maybe it is that Dark Elves have so enormous penalty, that the increase in CH didn't do enough difference to be shown?
Haven't played Dark Elves in a bit, but I do remember hating shopkeepers when I did...the prices were ridiculous.

+18 should have made a big dent in the shop prices but there are no doubt many other factors. the non random shops might have diffrent rules governing their prices compared to random shops. as warlord said being a DE doesn't help
