Tomenet is better, simply because of the fact it is Multiplayer.

Tome is not better than Adom though.

Nethack sucks, as does Angband and 99% of the variants.

Omega has a retarded keyboard layout, i didnt even bother trying it, Crawl is fun...for 10 minutes.

I tried out some Mecca roguelike which was fun, but im even worse at it than at Adom, so i quit.

Castle of the Winds is fun if you consider that a roguelike, but not as indepth as Adom. Moria ive never played, and i cant think of any others

If there was an ADomNet, we could REALLY have pretty heated ADOM comps eh @? We could, like, have gladiator style comps or somthing :P

Thats why i think Adomnet couldnt be done. Adom is very quest related, as the only real quest in Tome you need to do is killing Sauron Morgoth and maybe Melkor.

Ahhh... I'm too lazy to think of one right now. Maybe later.

it has some fun options though, and a great help system. Princess quests and the fumbling adventurer make the game way too easy, but still entertaining.

Oh, and they have an "Ironman" option, though it doesnt mean the same for that game as it does here. That just means a vault will be generated EVERY LEVEL. Its insane.

Lost souls are a nice challenge too

At http://www.thangorodrim.net/, I believe. Go to the Variants section and scroll down until you find something like ToME - Troubles of Middle Earth.

Or you can go to it's webpage. http://t-o-m-e.net

Amusement spread across his sultry lips as a feminine hand touched his. "What?" A faint voice trailed along the wind and whispered into his ears, drops of sweat dripping down to the soil followed by heavy breathing and panting. "Nothing. I just like the way you taste."

"Hey," a female voice interrupted. "Stop talking to that glass of orange juice. You're freaking me out."

I like NetHack. Prpbably because it was the first Roguelike I ever played. And it's a lot more developed than ADOM. I guess that's because the scource code is open. It doesn't have as many reace/classes, but moster use items, some PCs have to follow a code of conduct, and most of the random objects are useful when you get them.

Is it just me? I never seem to use wands or most of my scrolls. Wands of door creaton I nealy never use. And booster potions. A lot of stuff seems to accumulate. In NetHack, how much you carry is limited more. And there's less special stuff. And pets are A LOT more useful. But that's just me.

I quit playing Nethack almost as soon as I discovered ADoM. Going back to it, it seems a lot more linear and not as interesting. I have to admit that I never advanced too far into Nethack though (only up to the %^$@ Sokoban levels).

I've tried getting into ZAngband, but the dungeons drive me crazy.

You weren't even really supposed to be in the Sokoban lvls, I did the same thing with Nethack (played it right before adom)(finished it to) I adore the larger variations of commands and strange objects/monsters. The only problem is nethack isn't very descriptive and indepth like ADOM is.

Prolly JADE, once it is complete. I'm SOOOOO EXCITED!!!
You load your crossbow with ammo of Iridia slaying. You hit Iridia exactly and slay her. You a thundering voice in your head booms "THOU SHALT NOT SLAY THE GREAT MODERATOR!!!. YE SHALL PAY FOR THIS INSOLENCE!!!" Suddenly Jan Erik appears! You are hit by Jan Erik's arrow of banning! You die...

2 NMBLNG:
How can you even compare the amazing ADOM developed by one single TB and the primitive NetHack developed by a *group* of college programmers?

The archquest in NetHack is obtaining the lousy amulet - is that one cool, you think?

ADOM is a masterpiece rogue-like RPG, TB is a programmer god, and NetHack is simply primitive PIECE OF SHIT!

There is no question that ADOM is the best game...I tired some othet roquelikes (avanor, nethack, dungeon crawl(this is a fun H&S one though) but none even come close.

Heck I play alot of other games, computer, console (xbox, gamecube, even the old school games) and I always end up getting bored and coming back to ADOM.

This is the only game that I can play for years, get brutally killed time after time, and come back to!

In short, i reiterate ADOM RULES!!!

ADoM has depth, like a work of art--when compared to other roguelikes, it's like Collosal Cave compared to Hunt the Wumpus, in terms of depth.

However, similarly to Hunt the Wumpus, Nethack has a cultural niche in the *nix/geek/gamer community and is still very difficult even with spoilers; if ADoM were open source, I suspect that it would somewhat less difficult, but Nethack is already open source yet remains extremely brutal. Cursed items aren't just cursed, they're negative hit and damage, and you can't identify some of your items using shops. There's nowhere safe in Nethack....

I've read all the spoilers I can for Nethack, and I've gone without spoilers in ADoM. (For instance, until I read this topic, which isn't in the spoilers section, I didn't know you could destroy the world if you so chose.) In Nethack I haven't advanced below Down-Level 11 or above experience level 14, whereas in ADoM, I'm definitely making more progress, albeit comparably little.

....Carry on. *retreats to Stories forum*

Edit:

And it's great to start out learning with something difficult, that way everything else seems easier in the future.... I worked at Nethack for at least a year before I found ADoM; I play Nethack less now but am still active. There always seems more of a purpose in what I do in ADoM, while in Nethack I die and I die and my only incentive is to beat my previous high score.

(Same thing with C; lots of programmers I know started out with C++, but I started out with C, and now I'm the master of BASH automation and they're all.... well, they mostly have lives, I suppose.)

I play a lot of Slash'EM (a variant of Nethack), and I could help you with Nethack if you wanted. Here are some tips on avoiding cursed items which aren't in the Nethack manual.

  • Pets are reluctant to step on cursed items.
  • If you are a priest, you can tell when items are cursed.
  • Dropping items on altars will tell you their status, and in Nethack, it doesn't have to be an altar to your god.
  • To make holy water, ensure that your god likes you, drop water on his altar, and pray.

Yeah, most of what's let me do better than horribly in ADoM, without spoilers, is that I did get spoilers for Nethack and they're both roguelikes. I know those four tips, but ironically, what I didn't know until now was that in ADoM, curse status diagnosis _doesn't_ work on altars not of your alignment. ;)

A week from today I'll be back in school; Nethack is a tradition there, for many years (ADoM is the 'new' thing....) So I hope to do well in this year's competition (rivalry, I should say).
