I would like to know if casino-cash (put heavy object on space bar, go to sleep)for paying garth to pump stats and buying out shops is generally considered cheating (and thus not worthy for the hall of fame)

1) unlimited wishes - ring shops will eventually stock RoDS if bought out enough times.

2) all stats, save for mana and appearance to 99.

3) combine with girdle of greed for a carrying capacity that is essentially limitless.

4) scumming stores for high quality objects. (i.e. potion shops will eventually stock PoE if restocked enough, and other valuable items that stores stock rarely such as PoCC and SoCR.)

No, it's not cheating. It's a game feature, so use it. Cheating is stuff like taking advantage of bugs(none in adom really), messing with save files/the game's temporary files etc., stuff outside the game.

1)Yes, keep on buying out ring shops for RoDS. Most people have better things to do, like finishing the game.

2)What?

3)With stregnth of atlas carrying capacity is already effectively limitless

4)Booring.

Besides, hanging out on the casino level buying it out several times takes lots of game time and that deep in the CoC you'll get corrupted pretty much.(well, you could use scrolls of peace for that...)

By the way, putting heavy object on ENTER will play the slot machine multiple times faster than putting it on SPACE. I noticed this myself accidentally.. I mean, the speed increase is dramatic..

True. Using the enter or return keys skips most messages every turn and only displays the last one, which in this case would be the line telling you how much you've won. Using space also displays all the 5-6 messages of lights flashing and different figurines lining up on the machine, so it's much slower. Talking about real time of course, as playing the machines in the Casino only takes one game turn.

Thanks for the tip Maastonakki - gambling 500 000 took me aprpoximately an hour when using spacebar, so enter ought to cut that down.

Frederick: I don't think any of those strategies are cheating but they would become mind-numbingly boring. I am busy with my archmage attempt and am buying out wand shops. You would think a WoWi would EVENTUALLY be generated. No luck yet. I think rare and valuable items are danger-level dependent, so if your shops aren't generated deep in the CoC (or somewhere else very dangerous) then you might never have RoDS, SoCR, PoCC, PoGA, etc. generated.

If you want to scum rare items then you will probably have much more luck (and excitement!) scumming the BDC or sdeep in the ID.

They are danger level dependant. WoWIs are generated at the danger level 15, iirc. You have twice the chance of finding WoWI randomly as you do an artifact.

It's in the item section, about 6/10s of the way down.

Does gambling decrease satiation level? I know it takes only one turn but sometimes I find myself at the "very hungry" status after gambling

Space vs return may depend on your OS configuration. The last time I tried, using Return made ADOM beep continously very loudly(without possibility of reducing the volume, except possibly looking inside PC and plugging the speaker out), and I preferred a longer break from ADOM to a shorter but noisy break.

Gambling does decrease satiation, but it won't starve you, it just leaves you very hungry. Some other bad effects are getting stunned for a very long time but that can be removed by praying.

I got this high elven barbarian doing quite nicely, precrowned with Nature's Companion and now I want to get him crowned. I pacified Big Room and created 2 squeares (2x2) of herb bushes. I've never done real harvesting, so I don't know if I screwed it by harvesting the bushes to withered state or is the growth cycle just so damn long? As I understood from GB, if I got a 2x2 square it continues to grow and grow. My squares have been the same for many game days now...how long it usually take for generation to pass? This way I'll run out of cooked lizards waiting for my stomafillia...

They should grow, you have to use herbalism to check how well the plants are, IIRC. A generation is usually about 3 minutes, real time.

Not even. Some of the generations come really close together, like a turn or two apart. Others might take 100 or more. Shjouldnt take 3 minutes unless your playing really slow

I "W5"'ved for quite a bit, in game time several days, went from bloated to starving 3 times, nothing...
well, I guess I can do without them, but I was hoping to get crowned soon and live saccing takes time (real)... thumbs up for that vanquisher.

Well, the bushes never grew again, and I went on only to get heads on with an ancient karmic dragon when going past animated forest. Killed me with one acid blast.

So the problem was I harvested each bush in the square? They don't grow if I do that?
Or must there be some original bushes left somewhere on the level when I create my own bushes?

Suddenly I got a dire need to physically assault my computer...
Had a drakeling mindcrafter doing really good. lvl 15, beat pyramid, had 2 levels to harvest herbs in UD, a lawful altar 1 level down from them, scroll shop somewhere there too. First time I tried to get to dwarftown I was cut off by a minor vault of random things. I felt insecure of my survival so I first leveled up elsewhere. Also harvested herbs long enough to get WI, DX and TO to 25. Went back, killed the things with ease.
Then, I killed a master swordsman, it dropped something to the ground, and then...critical error! Damn it! I really liked this char, he was going to be great! ......p i s s e d o f f !

Drakish Mindcrafters are cursed. What's the probability of a confused gorgon petrificating your 25lvlish char? I think it's pretty low. Happened to me a while ago...
