i can't seem to get the damn things white if they're grey or black. i keep moving back and forth frmo grey to black... what's up with that? |

assuming you're already lawful.. don't use live sacrifices to convert altars. use gold. npc alignments make the whole thing a mess. |

right i got one to convert, using gold only made me a believer. sis worked good. |

I always use live sacrifices to convert. When I use gold I only manage to change my own alignment. You should just use a victim that both your deity and the one who's altar you're trying to convert accepts (so chaotic monsters always work) You make my life and times A book of bluesy saturdays |

I think it's dependant on level too. Mabye lvl*1000 is always(100%) safe, but I usually try it with lvl 8-10 PCs using 3000 gold. And haven't had any problems then... I must have done it 5 times at least without problems |

Altars were always tricky business for me. I've found that 3500-4000 gold has always worked for me at levels 10-15, respectively. Beyond that, i don't really convert altars at high levels unless i have a particular need for it. I find the nearsurface altars to be the most useful. I get paranoid around them, and i always wear only artifacts when dealing with them. Even using the 10-20 gold sacs to change alignment has gotten me cursed/dusted consistently, presumably because im pissing off a different god. ::shrug:: |

and if you don't have gp to spare and need that coaligned altar desperately - check the table in the guidebook. (but as i always play neutrals i don't know if converting an altar to white while lawful is possible - maybe you should sac a lawful [i'm serious]). |
