I asked the above question about a second precrowning (second last post).

I am aware of the level artifact formula for pre/post crowning. Only one artifact had been generated (first pre crowning gift) which I confirmed when I quit in frustration. I was also at the required level. In fact I made it up to level 14 while sacrificing monsters.

My question is how long I should expect to be at an alter until a secopnd precrowning is rewarded?

Quite a long time. Much more than twice as long as it took to get the first precrowning. Sorry I can't be more accurate, that's just an estimate. I haven't bothered with live-sac precrownings for a while.

Does jealousy piety change alignment by any chance? My PC is lvl 21 and still at L, and I want her to get L+ to be crowned. The cute dog has already been given to the girl, and the Amulet of Order doesn't seem to do anything. I've given a beggar 5,000 gold and Ruun almost 20,000. Offering surrender to humanoids doesn't seem to help like it did before.

Further question on pre/post crowning gift possibilities.

I was save scumming to test out different artifacts. I never seem to get Vanquisher, BotDM, or the silver key (though that's no great loss).

Are these gifts reserved for crowning or can all non guaranteed artifacts be generated for a pre/post crowning?

version 1.1.x has a bug/feature which means that only certain artifacts can be generated through precrowning, surges of power, or random generation, namely:
the heavy crossbow "The Far Slayer"
the obsidian quarrel "Thunderstroke"
the scorched spear
the hammer of the gods
the rune-covered club "Skullcrusher"
the glaive "Long Sting"
the bracers of war
the rune-covered sling "Whirlwind"
the fine leather armor "Nature's Companion"
the jet-black battle axe "Executor"
the robes of resistance
the staff of the archmagi
the ring of immunity
the rune-covered heavy mace "Purifier"
the medium obsidian shield "Protector"
the sapphire amulet "Preserver"
the crown of leadership
the dwarven pick axe "Hammerhead"
the iron gauntlets "Ironfist"
the black tome of Alsophocus
the shining long spear "Soaker"
the emerald dagger "Serpent's Bite"
the rune-covered halberd "Wyrmlance"

the other random artifacts can only be generated through crowning. Girdle of the Emperors "Celestrix" and Lust for Glory cannot be generated at all.
This patch:
http://www.stud.ntnu.no/~houeland/adom/patches/windows-patcher-1.2.exe
fixes it.

Nice patch! Got "Celestrix". Since now all artifacts are possible, I really wonder which ones would be great for the long haul. The girdle with +13, +13 is very nice. Cloak of Oman with it's dex increase isn't bad either. Bracers of War give regen.... Ah decisions, decisions.

Forget "Celestrix" - it dooms you. No, of course I can't pick artifacts. I can only repeat a saved game until I get what I want.... Of course, that's cheating (or fixing the deck). Oh, as far as the small shield "Lust for Glory", it gives +5,+3 WI+3 and Petrification, Paralyzation,Death Ray resistance. Not too bad, but I don't like shields.... The wooden shield "Nature's Friend" appears better: +6, +3 and resistances to fire, poison, cold, acid & shock.

Frankly, both those shields suck. I'm quite happy that certain artifacts are only crowning gifts.

more strange things...
I just got crowned (?) with my dark elven fighter, who was chaotic, of course.
I received the Hammer of the Gods, but I didn't get corrupted, what usually happens when you become a chaos champ, also I don't think I got the immunity
is this some kind of half-crowning? I was just level 11

Alex, is that patch also supposed to fix the "skilled" talents? I tried out the patch and it still crashed when I selected "skilled."

Garand: are you sure you got crowned and not precrowned? Was the message "Mortal, ye have done great services ..." or "Your perseverance shall be rewarded"? If it was a crowning (the former of those two messages) that's pretty unusual. Are you Unicorn star sign?
einherjar: Dunno, I've never tried choosing those talents before.

What limitations does a Champion have as far as committing acts that go against the alignment?

Will I lose my Champion of Balance status if I do something lawful or chaotic once, or is there a certain number of unbalanced actions?

If you can do all you want, as long as your alignment doesn't actually change from Neutral. If you hit LN or CN, you'll instantly be a fallen champion, but N- and N+ are perfectly fine (as are NC and NL, though those are getting dangerously close)

Are there actions that can make a Crowned PC at N= go to LN or CN in one turn?

It depends on the level of the PC. At level 1--yes. At level 10--maybe. At level 50--you'd be lucky to go to N- or N+...

According to Twinge, who apparently knoweth all, the PC's clvl only affects the degree of positive changes of alignment (towards lawful), not negative (towards chaotic).

Yes, as Alex said level only affects positive change. IIRC, you will move slower away from N= when you're at N=. Also, if you wear an amulet of balance while neutral (especially blessed) alignment changes will be reduced a lot too, even more if you're tree birthsign (both ways for these last 2).

Things that could cause massive alignment change would include killing the Great Water Dragon or the Great White Unicorn, probably some other stuff like killing Kelly as well.

"((( UNLESS YOU GET THAT F*CKING BLACK TOME OF ALPHOSOCUS!!!11one1! )))"

I just recently found out about crowning/pre-crowning and all that stuff even though I've been playing almost 2 years....I've never had a character beat the pyramid...

Anyway, back on topic - I got pre-crowned for the first time by finding an altar in a vault level with an ant-hole next to it, and I had to get the black tome as my first gift ever. *sigh*

You know there is a search function?
Anyway, cross alignment praying is when you pray a *lot* when you are of one alignment (this will make the other gods like you) and when you then switch alignments, you can get (pre)crowned because you have high piety with the god.

Summary: Praying too much from one god will make the other gods like you

Which is better for a Human PC: Sacrificing Si, or selling Si and sacrificing the gold?

I guess selling the SIs and sacrificing the gold is better

But human gods prefer tools over other items. Is there a big difference between the piety gained from sacrificing Si and gold?

I bet Twinge could find out easily. What happened to him?

Well, if you are lucky, you can sell the Si for an amount of gold that, when sacrificed, gives more piety then the Si itself.

Depend on who u are selling to. If I remember correctly, the guidebook said that u have 30% boost for race-specific sacs. So it might me more beneficial to sac the Si itself since it is rare for u to sell it for more than 110% value (if I remember correctly) with non-merchant.

Also, selling SI and saccing gold will drain gold from shopkeepers inventory. If you want to use the gold for other stuff it might be best to sac the SI. (or stomofillia)

Lately Ive sacced less gold in my games, and relied more on live-sac and herbs or (SI's), and used gold for buying up stats. I like to do this when in the vulnerable lvl 8-16 range.
With creative use of sickness, starvation and some corruptions you can go a long way...

Back on the subject of (pre)crownings, I usually try to get 2 precrowns, and at least one. This happens at level 14 (SI will be generated).
If artifacts are generated in the shops (lawinthewall, HMV or Dwarf)or via surges it gives me one less precrown per arti generated.

I used to think that this is a bad thing, but of course its good...less saccing to do, and that arti randomly generated have same odds as being good as the precrown gifts. Only problem could be raising cash to buy from black market. If one doesnt want to steal from the poor widdle shopkeep.
