OK. So I have this human wizard. He reads his extra scrolls of danger on DH2. Then he reads his scroll of familiar summoning. POOF a Balor appears. I'm thinking this is pretty tyte. I want to level him so I take him to the animated forest...He's having a blast. He's wiping out trees left and right and he's leveling like I want him to (~lvl40). Well I notice there are alot of treasures on the ground now, but there seem to be more trees now than before. I guess that level generates trees? He actually takes a lil damage while fightin dem damned trees and I heal him with a Cure Serious spell and my Alignment goes from C to CN. I find it hilarious that I can HEAL a demon from the pits of hell and STILL it's a lawful act! My problem is I need some way of making the trees stop generating! Then I can pickup all my great treasure. Like when I use a wand of item detect, the whole level looks like the Casino gift shop. Lots of logs there too, never gonna hafta chop trees again. I need to get rid of those trees somehow. Any thing I can do that could make em stop? My balor now is lvl 40 so I wonder how he'd stand up to say an emperor moloch? what about a quickling bard? I could always attempt to kill him, then I'd gain a HUGE amount of experience, assuming I could kill him. I just hope he don't turn on ME.

Well trees (and monsters in general) are never generate in yoru line of sight, so if you can boost your PE to 99 and then wear an amulet of the eye and cast Farsight you schould be eable to stop them from popping...

Anyway increasing your LOS will at least slow them down a little, other than that you'll just have to hack your way to the treasure you want.

Be carefull, only bards can get totaly loyal companions. The ones you get from a blessed scroll of Familiar Summoning are no exception, he may suddently descide to kill you. In either case be sure to be carefull around trapped doors and such (order him to move away before you kick down locked doors).

I beg to differ Jan Erik, but me and Hawkslayer are like chalk and .. Chalk!
We dig up graves together! We go out shopping, sometimes robbing it! We go to the pub and get wasted! We even go to the casino together and then kick the shit out of local dragons a few levels down!

So I say bards are NOT the only ones to have totally loyal companions!

Well I decide to go for the library hoping to get a book of Farsight. I get myself a harpy corpse and figure I'll just grab the Weird Tome I've heard so much about. I eat the damned thing before going in the library. I get in there and me and my balor go rock the level while waiting for the 1d1000+200 turns to go by. I summon myself a undead slave with my Necromancy skill and use him to move the librarian, figuring that my balor would probably rock the hell outa Mr Librarian. My undead foo dies btw. So I just wait and wait and wait some more. I take homeboy out of the library before the mute thing wears off and then talk to the librarian and he tells me to sssssh and heed da silence! wtf? am I missin something?

Ok let me put it like this. Any companion you get via Scrolls of Familliar summoning and figurines will if given enough time loose interest or become outright hostile.

This is also true for monsters that are tamed by healing, feeding or music, unless you are a bard, in wich case tamed animals remain loyal.

Hawkslayer, undead slaves and I believe the doc's flesh golem also remain loyal (providing you don't cause a fireball trap to blow up in theyr face).

WHOO! Time Out!
HEALING! I didn't know you could tame monsters that way...
I don't see how it could and me have never seen it. I've healed MORE that my share of enemys and I have never gotten them more than "Don't care" status. I'm talking about healing 50+ times from severe and critical back to no damage with a lawful healer. I'm confused...

Ademon, about the wierd tomb, your using 1.0 right? Yah, I've had some problems getting it. I'm not sure why. The game can be finicky about it at times.

I'm using 1.0 yeah.
I was wondering if there was a alignment requirement maybe.
How would I extend my muteness length after I'm already mute?
I eat harpy corpses while I'm mute and it only talks about tough old bird.
Is there any other way to become mute?

Okay, put it this way - has anyone ever got the weird tome yet through the apparent method?
And could someone tell what it actually does?

Hmm, well I seem to recall managing to tame a cat or something by healing it... This was back when it was considered lawfull (and mercyfull) to kick a monster half to death and then heal it back up mind you...

Guess it might have changed in recent versions...

So why the hell has the Weird tome even been implanted yet??
When you give someone a mystery or something you don't give them half of it first then the rest later because that is just cruel!

I really think there must be an easier way to get the tome, this way makes no real sense and there is not a single clue to help you do it.
I really think what you people have found is some kind of shortcut or bug.

If its a bug or something then why get the tome at all if just for a few SoCR. How are you people getting the tome. I've been scumming my character trying different ways to get the tome and to no avail. I stayed in the library mute for over 1200 turns then took him outside and talked to him while N-. Has anyone grabbed the tome as a chaotic? Maybe there must be no noise in the library at all meaning don't kill any monsters?
The tome is whack.

I got the tome without being mute at all. I led the librarian back to the rift and talked to him there.

Excellent, so there's the first piece of evidence proving that the current method has a maybe more obvious one to it.

What the hell is LOS? Level of Sanity? Lack of Sex? Line of Sight? hmm... I'd guess the last one.

I did that in Adom 1.0, never tried it on gamma 16. I don't see why it would be different though.
