a PoU is IMO worth wishing for if you for some reason don't have one when you get down to D:49. But remember that you can get also some useless crap, like the black tome.

illumi - yeah, and? So you got another potion of uselessness. It's a normal item, I usually find at least 2 in every potion shop (and once my heap of 5 potions of cure poison got Exchanged to PoUselessness... in DH:2. Can you say 'unlucky'? :P )

Yeah, but potion shops are rare, Maelstrom; and so are random-dropped potions of uselessness. Just a little less rare as PoCC, actually.

I'd be happy to have a !PoU replaced after one had got destroyed. It is, after all, a guaranteed artifact.

PoU are just common enough to waste a wish (hence not very), <if you play for score{some ~I~} do, by d-48-50 and if you have milked the blue dragon caves like a dying cow, you should have an extra wish or 2, go ahead, you might get something cool, or no, the call it fishing, not catching, wear a blessed ankh, and 2 blessed rings of luck, toss it get BoW, go figure.

A gnoll dropped a PoU on D:9 in a gnoll/hyena vault when my most recent character was lvl 15. Too bad he was killed on DH:2... damn titan.

I can't agree that it's worth wishing for PoU. One extra random artifact is not going to make a difference by the time you get to D:49. About the only one that you'd be unlikely to have anything better than at that stage would be bracers of war, or possibly preserver - and the odds of getting lucky are pretty small. I'd rather wish for stats, or speed, or SoCR.

it depends on if you happen to have a spare wish, and don't need any SoCR, I agree that it is a pretty small chance to get a useful artifactthe best i have gotten is Wyrmlance, which won't help very much at D:50, but I had lvl 12 in pole arms.

if you sit down and play ADOM long enough.
The RNG reads your mind, facetiousness aside, <for the non english fans i was joking> it just seems, and i cant prove it, but i know that the Ahnk gives 3 extra dice rolls and takes the best, wearing two blessed rings of luk HAVE to add to that....so that makes 5 rolls? unless your married to a fat chick ill take tose odds...
against the rng wich we love so much...

Remember that each artifact is generated only once.. so if a lot of crappy random artifacts have been generated theres a higher chance for getting good stuff and vice versa

I noticed that you asked what petrification did...It turns your enemies to stone (makes them statues)

Quite a nice spell to have on your list!

Kick statues to bits and there's a (pretty small) chance that a wand will be created. chance is higher for blessed statues.
