Why sword and dagger?

Spears are the best weapon imo,as a combo I like to do spear + shield. Of course, if i find <insert weapon name> of devastation, I'll use it :).

For two weapon, maybe two spears?

It really depends on alot of factors. Race and strength maybe.

Usually one bigger weapon and one smaller one.

Research.

I prefer a pair of blessed phase daggers if available, preferably smithed as far as they'll go.

I love dark elves with dual-wielding swords.
Last month I saw the book-cover of one of R. A. Salvatore's books. I don't know the name but it showed a dark elf surrounded by thousands of orcs. And he was dual-wielding swords. It was really cool.

I never dualwield until lategame and its very uncommon that I dualwield at all. If I do its needle and sting.

It may be cool, but as in all d&d games it really sucks :P

Mewto - the guy you saw, Drizzt, the 16th level Drow Ranger with his 2 scimitars ('Icing Death' and 'Twinkle') is the inspiration for rangers in ADOM :P

And the book's name is likely "The Thousand Orcs".

I like that series too :)

Yeah I thought it was a nice touch to start duel wielding scimtars if you make a drow ranger in ADOM, with other races duel wielding different weapons. Was certainly a nice suprise when I tried one out of interest anyway...

And it's a shame you can't keep his scimitars in BG2, where you can dual-wield... Anyway, there is a mod for BG1, that let's you play in the BG2 engine (sub-classes, dual wielding, higher xp cap, some bonus locations and items etc. ).

Grrr don't you listen to me, dualwielding always suck anyway :@

2hander or onehanded+shield is in 99% of the times much better than dualwield.

(One that doesn't think dualwielding looks cool)

I think The Creator should add something to dual wielding - currently you only get a DV bonus from 1 weapon. It may seem fair, but a skilled fighter can use both weapons to block and parry (that's the whole point of dual wielding attack and block with 2 weapons, instead of attacking with one, and blocking with a shield). There should be a ranger class power, or 'something', that grants the DV bonus from both weapons, as long as it isn't 2 spears (which grant lots of DV because they are long sticks, which are easy to parry with. And it's not easy to do anything if you've got TWO long sticks. BTW - there should be a penalty for using 2 spears, like there is for whips).

The cool thing in BG was that u could hide behind a river with all your party then attract Drizzt with one character. He would usually get smashed to pieces but then u could shoot at Drizzt all you wanted. It took me half an hour that way to kill him but his weapons rock ^^

I rather kill him like a real anti-hero should - face to face. He may seem tough, but Corran, Kivan and Edwin summoning stuff as meat shields do wonders. Last time he got shredded in 2 minutes. :D

P.S. Has any thread ever gone so off-topic? ;P

Dual-wielding is not that bad. Rangers can really kick ass with two weapons... AFAIK they can weild *really* heavy weapons without dealing with dramatic attack penalty. Same for barbarians (as true berserkers, i prefer adom 1.1.1 dwarven barbarians with several toughness talents (including mithril skin)).
But in general it's obvious that shields do save lives.

I also use just one weapon with a shield. If I duel-wield at all it's with needle and sting. Whether I use them usually depends on what my DV is with needle and sting equipped.

I never really understood the ranger bonuses at level 32/50... do they ever make a difference of more than 10 to-hit or so? Seems like a waste to me.

beh. Two-handers rule over dual-wielding. My last character was able to true berserk the cow axe on D:50 with an eternium plate mail of rage and aylas's holy scarf (and some other stuff) with a pv of 66. I killed Fistanarius before he could even hit me :)

does the "of rage" suffix make it possible to be a true berserker while vielding armor?
