I beg to differ; those are not nearly the most useful potions. They are, however, not useless. Many potions can be thrown, grenade-style, to affect monsters. Be aware that this counts as an an attack, and you can miss.

They are pretty damn useful, yes. You'd think some of the more powerful monsters (ie orb guardians) would get resistance to them, but they don't seem to. I sometimes resort to a few potions of confusion for the cat lord.

By the way, do potions of sickness work the same way? Can monsters get sick?

Yes, they can. (Cats can, at least.)

Not sure if undeads and constructs would though ...

IMHO potions of water are the most useful potions in the game.

never missed with a potion sofar...with mages...and sickness worked, used it on Keriax.

I missed, with a DE barbarian and Dx:30. It was a PoExchange, my only one, in the arena, and the cat dodged it...

Probably has more to do with the cat's dodging ability than your char's throwing ability. Damn agile cats.
