I've read that there are two anvils in this game...except for random ones occuring. Where are they?

The smith in dwardtown and the dwarven artifacter in darkforge both drop an anvil when killed.

The artifacter is quite though, but the best one to kill IMHO.

You can always piss Glod off by pickpocketing him and make him follow you out of the town and kill him there to avoid trouble with the rest of the dwarves, but I prefeer to keep him alive for repairing and de-rusting eq (cost a lot, but it's faster than doing it yourself). Your call realy.

Kill the evil one, because

1. He's evil
2. It won't lower your law status
3. Jan's reason about the rust thing
4. More experience
5. He has loads of other objects
6. He's evil!

But it's very hard to kill him, what I do sometimes is build a bridge of ice near the pool/water room, get him in there some by blocking/locking other exit points etc, then wait around till he's at an appropiate point so he can't get to you if you melt the bridge. Then you let him have it by firing lighting bolts at him!

If your a fighter then you may have a bigger problem, so wait till your very experienced then take him out in hand to hand combat (speed would help a lot with him).

Hmmmm... Does the evil one resist death ray/other magic ? Those steel golems are a right royal PITA (recently lost a decent human elementalist - with ring of ice - to the one in the level above darkforge), they even seem to see invisible.

I tested this... he won't die to death ray. He is only immune to fire. Killing him gave about 80k xp.

As for the alignment -

  • Initiating combat in melee is a chaotic act.
  • Initiating combat with a spell or wand does nothing to a PCs alignment.
  • Killing him once he's hostile also does nothing for your alignment.

So killing him isn't as great as thought. Not too much xp. He might be evil but killing him is still evil. He drops a warhammer, crossbow, 3 quarrels and an anvil. (twice i got that).

But i think killing him is better anyway 'cos of the rust repair with Glod.

Note: Tested on version 1 with a L50 human ranger.

Hmmm... I found a pretty nice method of killing the crime lord without big alignment penalty (other than pickpocketing) I was playing a gnome elementalist and had got the quest from the sheriff. I went to the outlaw village and cast improved fireball at the corner of the building that he and his henchmen were in (not at them). They got angry and attacked me. Then I killed them without noticeable drop of alignment. I was N- when I got to holeinthewall (from eating wight corpse in dwarven graveyard) and I was still N- once I had killed them. Later I used the amulet of order to get back to N=. Same method could probably work with the evil one ?

Ah that doesn't necessacarily mean that you didn't drop alignment.
I've robbed shops crowned lawful and stayed L=

You could of just been a high N-, and the chaotic act comitted wasn't enough to take you to NC.

Well, that wouldn't make sense if I fried a hostile bandit (for example) with improved fireball and those guys just happened to be in the way. Since when has self-defense been a chaotic act :-)

Blame is not always fair. The cat lord blamed me when a wild cat was killed by a spear trap. I didn't even see it die! (pre-1.0 version, though)

random post: i did a bard in the raven and got the rune trident early as hell, once i started doing the red dragon vaults i was hoping for wyrmlance before i had to do the blue dragons. i never found it, but that didn't matter cause by the time i was done i was at mastery anyway and the blue dragons were a breeze.
