I seem to remeber someone here once saying that an amulet of protection from undead will protect you from her scream...well almost - you take a hefty portion of damage each time she screams...

oh, why i recall 150 (???)

anyway it can't protect the char for long ... let me count:
(1) read magic map - 150 to 200 HP
(2) read detect monster - 300 to 400 HP
(3) teleport there - 450 to 600 HP
(4) hit once - 600 to 800 HP
(5) hit twice - 750 to 1000 HP

doesn't sound good ...

Actually you can enter the banshee level without plugging your ear or using other protection..
So the first 3 points could be overseen..

Anyway why use alternative methods to deal with the banshee when there is a guaranteed beehive above? It's easy and foolproof...

"It's easy and foolproof...", until you happen to step on a fireball-trap and the wax melts from your ears and probably also the rest of you wax-supply.

Joshua, the gray elven wizard, was killed by the unearthly wail of a banshee. Rats. He was level 19, my previous best was 14. Thing is, he was wearing a wedding ring. What did i do wrong? Shouldn't i have been hiding it under the elemental gauntlets? Should i have blessed it?

Next time i'll make sure to have beeswax with me, the only hive here was some 10 levels up in a little corner on the other side of a river.

you have to *Wield* a wedding ring strangely enough. And while your wielding it make sure not to step out of the banshees line of sight or her wail will still kill you..

Or maybe she needs to stay in your line of sight? Meh

Heh, someone else found out that one before I did too eh?

You'll take 20d15 damage (average: 160) instead of instant-death while wearing one. Not worth it unless you're just doing it to do it ;)

Actually, I wear one as well as using beeswax if I'm going to bring the banshee to the animated forest, in case I encounter something with a fire attack (a lich I missed in the graveyard, for example) and the wax melts. One turn is usually survivable, and that's all you need to protect yourself from the wail in some other way.
