It's been a while since I played this game now, I dug it back up and started a trollish wizard because I love the idea of a fighter-mage, and I also love finding *every* spellbook in the game at the library

Anyhow, I killed Kranach as my first monster so I'm considering trying for my first ever ultra ending, I usually kill something like a goblin or a rat and forget about it completely later in the game, it should be easy to hop from alignment to alignment with a slow leveling troll when I'm doing all those quests I've never attempted before, right?

I'm looking good so far....

started the game with a spellbook of death ray and firebolt so I stashed the book safely for a good reading session later, my learning was a little low at this point....being a troll and everything.

I did puppy cave, a pool on level 1 gave me a wish on the second drink! I've never had a wish from a pool without savescumming one in the past, so I know how rare they really are :)

Took druid quest but only dived down to DD6 exploring for dungeon features. So the black torc isnt spawned yet, I always try to limit the number of artifacts generated so I can squeeze some pre-crownings out of my deity if I get the chance

Picked up pickpocket skill so i can train climbing/stealth for a dive to the library later
went through smc onto hmv...found 2 herb levels and a vault

Hit the CoC next and found a neutral altar above the big room which contained LOTS of stomafillia bushes, so now I'm pre-crowned twice with hammerhead and bracers of war!! (neutral and lawful) after lots of farming/mining/containing monsters/sacrificing...a little tedious, but worth it. I dont have the patience to get a third precrowning so my fear of generating artifacts was now over :)

Went down to dwarftown, did a couple of the quests...on my way to do forest quest, hit another pool and got intrinsic invisible, thats bad for the arena :(

Are there any ways to get around this, I only have 1 pot of visibility and I dont think it will last for 20 fights

Went through DH to get quest, read a scroll of familiar summoning, greater earth elemental :D
there was a large tension room of chaos mutants on DH2, killed a couple but accidently hit my new friend too, so I ran away...I'll clean them up later because they give about 6000 xp each and there is about 15-20 of them plus that angry elemental

Tomb of the high kings was a breeze, I sailed through it with no problems

Cleaned out the vaults in darkforge, but I'm putting off wiping out those golems and the smith until I have more lightning based attacks

Graveyard next, very scared when an emperor lich appeared as i was graverobbing, teleported away and cast a couple of fireballs at him from a distance to see if i could stand up against him & the wimp ran away! I'm sad in a way because that would have been a nice XP boost.... but also glad at the same time, because he would have murdered me!

At this point I have the gear to tackle the ToEF, so I make my way up to the top. The chaos wyrm refuses to die, and he HURTS

I never remembered him being quite this tough before, I have 200hps, and one blast of his spell attack thing takes about 120 off..

what kind of attack is it, is there any way to resist it?
We're locked in a standoff at the moment, I must have cast frost bolt at him about 50 times now, and I've also tried double hitting him with magic missile by bouncing it off a wall behind him too...but he refuses to drop.

I've left him alone for now, I'll come back when I have Iceball, or dragon slaying items...but where do I take my mighty troll now?

I still need an amulet of life saving, I used my wish on seven leagues, and then found another pair a moment later :(

You can only lose the invisibility intrinsic by drinking with pools - with a troll that's a very bad idea unless you have spare potions of youth. The wyrm can be a real ass. His energy ray cannot be resisted, but your chances of dodging it are related to your DV. Make sure you're on coward tactics at all times. The Alertness skill also helps enormously. If you still can't kill him, try shooting him full of poison arrows - afaik monsters never get unpoisoned so if you shoot him with enough to cancel out his regeneration you can go hide around the corner and wait for him to drop.

Well my trollish hero is still ownerizing everything, I've built up quite an large treasure hoard. I think even Blups mom would be jealous

Alex, I managed to find myself a wand of poison and used that on the wyrm, it sorted him out fairly well, I was better suited to tangle with him at this point too...more life and much bvetter DV, it went quite smoothly. Something funny I noticed though, the poison ray bounced back at me, but I took no damage.
So I'm assuming you can get technically make yourself poison immune if you have enough sources of +poison resist? When I realised this, I positioned myself so that the ray was bouncing back and forth onto the poor wyrm and myself repeatedly, gave him some ultra poison :)

At this stage, I've cleared every possible area with the exception of the minotaur place before khelavaster without finding an amulet of life saving.

There are some unid'd amulets in the water dragon cave, should I try stealing them?....I remember dying in there before now, it seems risky

Does the minotaur dungeon give good item drops, should I try there?

Other than that, I'm stuck...maybe I could hang out in darkforge or the dwarven halls, but 60 or so days have passed already, and I have 3 corruptions which I'm a little anxious about

Where do you think I should explore some more to get this damn amulet? :(

I recommend the gremlin thing. I do it every time I have a game that's going somewhere.

The surface level of the dwarven graveyard has a high-ish danger level, so it's good for generating valuable items, and it's completely non corrupting. So get fluff balls, make 2 water traps near the entrance to the building in the graveyard, and pickpocket and kill them until you get a wish item or AoLS.

What's that? You say you can't make traps on grass? Well, by digging holes and 'U'sing any blanket while standing on them, you can make any type of trap. I always save plain blankets for this purpose.

About the water dragon cave: my first tip would be not to go in there without a source of water breathing. Rings of the fish stop you drowning but don't seem to help against water breath attacks.

If you have water breathing, and are reasonably strong and equipped with a good weapon of penetration, you may be able to kill her and take all her stuff. The trick is that she cannot fight back in darkness. For the full details, see the ADOM Wiki.

I found my amulet finally...I'm not sure where it came from, it was just there in my inventory when i was organising :D

Forge on D10...used it for a while, until i realised that the background corruption was eating me, so I dived down the CoC to D48, stopped off at the casino and found a scroll of peace

I wrote another scroll and read them both on D10...I spent far too long mining and smithing, I hate it now, but BOY my items are cool and all those stone giant corpses and a ring of weakness have made me kind of strong

raided each temple, no problems except I forgot to bring a ring of see invisible for the mana temple, I also completed the quest in the blue dragon caves...I can basically kill everything in melee faster than I can take them down with spells.
I beat up 2 greater titans without taking much damage at all although one of them decided to punch through my super-smithed blue dragon scale armour and destroy it...boo! :(

The only thing that will stop me now I think is a really stupid mistake, I've come this far before...but I've never been on the ultra ending trail before, so I'm looking forward to exploring new areas...

Hooray, I did it :)

Now I am happy...This troll was a BEAST, ever since I raised strength to 90+ with stone giant corpses I had a massively powerful melee with my smithed up orcish spear of penetration. Nothing could stand in my way and I made none of my patented stupid mistakes
