A very general question ;) but I'd just like to know... Of course, even addicted drinker ;) will sometimes leave the pool alone and even pool-haters will sometimes sip in hope for a wish to get a certain amulet... ;) But indicate your general attitude to pools here :).

I wait until I have a method of reobtaining Teleport Control before drinking from pools. May thy wisdom be omnipresent. |

at the beginning, when i can hold off a room full of snakes, but i don't have any special abilities, yes, i drink from pools i haven't gotten to the point where i have any special stats worth keeping yet, so i'll decide if i want to drink when i get there |

Oh yes. I've not been too lucky with wishes my last 5 chars, but the special pool-only intrinsics you can get are sweet. Once I can handle snakes, and am able to recover from curse/dooming I drink away. For some reason I always end up with teleportitis and no control. Wonder why. Oh and I wait till Ive done arena too, for obvious reasons. |

Pool rules: #1 No diving in the shallow end. #2 No drinking without blink dog corpses handy. #3 No drinking until after you've done the arena quest. #4 No drinking without access to an altar & high piety, ability to cure poison, and ability to kill water elementals. #5 No drinking without a potion of youth handy (except for dwarves, elves & gnomes) What do you wish for? wands of cat repellent_ |

Yes, but co-aligned altar and good piety a must |

I do drink, keeping mind those rules that Alex said. But I usually end with uncontrolled teleportisis and dozens of doomings ;) |

I'm not a fan of permanent invisibility at any stage in the game, since my characters tend to be pumped up enough to handle anything, and I don't want to waste extra time wandering around picking monsters off. Besides, anything that you want invisibility for can see invisible anyway. Also, I don't like teleportisis, even controlled, since it makes reading books harder. I never get wishes from pools, and I don't need anything else from them, so no. I do not drink from pools. The following is a real Adom message: The homunculus hits you. You suddenly fall asleep! Do you want to continue to read the spellbook of Calm Monster? [y/N] |

I agree with Some guy. Teleportisis hits never when you want it, and almost always when you don't want. Besides it makes spell learning *very* annoying. And same with invisibility. I prefer being able to decide when I am invisible and when not. But I still risk drinking pools. I usually stop after I've got paralyzation resistance or some other good. Btw, my curren PC (dark elf mindcrafter) got three wishes from darkforge pools ;) The rust monster touches your blessed Trident of the Red Rooster. Nothing happens. You laugh at the monster's pitiful attempt. |

Invisibility is good after you've done Arena. |

Dunno, pools seem to be kinda scary to me, but hey! Adds spice to the game. And only once did I ever manage to get a wish from a pool. Hobgoblins taste like chicken! |

Always drink. I figure that you have to give everything a shot, even if it may be stupid. Survival of the fitest. Everything is in the hands of fate. Your choices are already made. That is what I think. (Note: Yes, I get doomed, poisoned, sick, bleeding ears, teleport etc. Alot!) The kobold cringes in pain |

Only one rule here... do not drink until you will really benefit from any good effect and can handle any bad effect. Usually that means empty all randomly generated and guaranteed pools just before entering D:16. The Great Wyrm of Order breathes light (more) - wow, you feel very smart! |

I drink if I have a character I don't care about or want some ability, I always happen to get snakes, every time. |

Snakes are a lot more common than anything else (besides the pool drying up), so you definately will see them most often. |

Back in my hay-day, i scummed while pool drinking to come up with an algorithm as to WTF would happen. I could almost link the HH:MM:SS to the results. Was highly speculative. |
