I'm not sure but I think you can do it with a blessed potion of oil of rust removal "I don't know what World War 3 will be fought with, but I know World War 4 with be fought with sticks and stones." - Albert Einstein |

Yes, dipping items in blessed oil of rust removal rustproofs them. It also waterproofs items that are not vulnerable to rust but can be damaged by water. It also offers a way of getting some weird items like my winner beastfighter has. How about waterproof fireproof blanket or waterproof waterproof blanket or waterproof crystal of light or waterproof scroll of <foo> or (this one is the most amusing IMO) waterproof potion of holy water J. Whoa, but thanks fellas. NO more rusty crossbows for me. |

You also have some chance with the normal potion of oil (NOT rust removal), but only if it is not blessed. |

Potions of oil sometimes rust-proof, sometimes the don't. A blessed OoRR is more trustworthy since it always rust-proof the item - if it isn't already rusted, that is. The rust monster touches your blessed Trident of the Red Rooster. Nothing happens. You laugh at the monster's pitiful attempt. |

I'm a HUGE fan of rustproofing, to many games have had my sharpness sword ruined, or my crossbow of accuracy, or my killer armour...rusted then BROKEN....not a huge deal early in the game, but if you get a phase dagger ruined, you will never not rustproof again.... IMHO after 7lbs, potions of rust removal are a valid wish.... you will reap benifits for the rest of the game, <and if you use the doomed/cursed trick for grand mastery, those traps wont be so scary> oh and dont forget the AoLS, but you might have one by the time you have 2 wishes |

and dont forget those giant rust monsters around level 30 and up, they will trash EVERY thing fast |

Potions of oil are not a reliable method of rustproofing, but it is their main use. (You can use them to disarm alarms and poison yourself and maybe poison foes, but it's probably better to unreliably rustproof something) |

I rustproof iron equipment that I know I'll be using for a long time, like gauntlets of strength and crowns of regeneration. Anything I rustproof I'll probably smith up as well. Well, I'd never use a wish for OoRRs. They aren't that rare after all. And dwarven smith can unrust items, although it is very expensive. The rust monster touches your blessed Trident of the Red Rooster. Nothing happens. You laugh at the monster's pitiful attempt. |

I find those oils quite rare actually. And the smith usually won't live long after I enter dwarftown :\ |
