You can find spellbooks of wish, but they are the most rare out of all the spellbooks (save for the Black Tome, but that's an artifact anyway).

Huh? AFAIK, the spellbook of wish is only guaranteed for wizards in the Secret Library and can be generated in any of the book locations - not just the hidden room.

My archmage also found one spellbook of Wish in a bookshop (after numerous restockings). So I'd guess it could also be found in shops if one has enough money to buy it out enough times.

Can't you just dump all the stuff on one tile rather than buying out the entire store?

A shop won't often restock more than twice using that technique, Shihna. It's much faster to buy out the stock.

Yea, it's a lot faster...if you're super rich -_-'
Book of Wish isn't usually that great though, since it's such a huge pain in the butt to read and cast.

I've only found a book of wish to be useful once, and that was when i was archmaging a character. Books of wish are really just for fun rather than any true use, imo.

Its cast time and requirements fall out of bounds of practicality. You can probably finish a game much faster by just doing it, rather than spending the time to buff your PP and HP to be able to cast wish. Its only just nice to be able to.

Scumming BDC is probably as good a tactic as any for trying to find a spellbook of wish, Ostal, though ive never gotten one there before. WoW and RoDS as well as artifacts generate down there, so i dont see any reason why a spellbook of wish wouldnt.

Buying out a bookshop repeatedly would probably require lots of casino cash -_-.

I once had a char, whose only source of wish was from the book of wish found in library. He had scummed 4000 gremlins without getting AoLS or RoDS. Only was to complete the ultimate ending (which he did, btw) was by casting wish from memory on silvernight.

So it does have a use.

I didn't say that the book of wish doesn't have a use...it's just not very practical. And it's rather rare when someone actually uses the spellbook as a source of wish...it is so uncommon, in fact, that most people just take the easier route and say that the book of wish isn't very useful.

Well, okay, hrm, well...

Let me rephrase.
It is the source of the only guaranteed wish in the game.
Hence, it is the key to be assured of an Ultra ending.
So I find it dead useful.
Unfortunately this is for Wizard class only.
As has been mentioned, it is harder to find than....well something that is really really hard to find.
(I think I've found one or two other books of wish in my entire playing career. Both times on a wizard too)
Other classes would have trouble using it, because they do not receive the lesser PP cost class ability.
Well Priests do, but I think that wish is arcane spell and therefore costs more. I think. Not 100% sure about that last bit though.

I find its good to use for that #¤"¤" amulet of life saving to be able to go on to Ultra, also for late game if there is something you're missing you can afford to waste a wish on it. Potions of boost speed for the final fight mabye?

For wizards Im very happy it's there in the libraby, give some certainty to that char.
Even though I end up not using it a lot of times, because I find what I need anyway.

as i see it, spellbooks of wish can be pretty good for incresing your Le score. dip&quaff some PoPotLe before reading, eat a blessed stoma, get your Le increased by approximately 3 points in the worst case (if it disappears after the 2nd read). at all, Wish isn't as hard to learn as it seems. a level 20 (or so) wizard with Le of 30-40 is able to read it even twice after eating but one stomafillia. because i often recieve a wish in dfg, the spell itself doesn't appear attractive to me:)

I previously asked about Priests and Wish.
Indeed, Wish is an arcane spell, but Divine Intervention isn't! Priests will doubtfully find a book of *Wish*, for all spells i find have 'divine' names, if they are supposed to (allways 'baptism of fire' vs 'burning hands', 'nether bolt' vs 'frost bolt', etc.)
So, priest finding this book migh probably be able to cast it with his applied cost-reduction bouns.
By the way, priests have 50% reduction vs 40% of wizards - counting with good and great book caster it's 3750 ((5000*1.5)- 50% )= 3750 for priest, and ((5000*1.5) - 40%)= 4500 fow wizard.
Add up a nice wand sign (-10% PP cost for neutrals), if you like to be neutral, and get 3000 for priests, and 3750 for wizards.

And a mere 2000 for Wand Priest from memory (5000 - 60% = 2000)

Am I right?

Now, let's look at the digits.
To cast effectively from book wand priest requres around 1000 hp and 1000 PP. - quite a normal figure for ones wandering beyond Chaos Gate.
From memory - a meager 670 HP and that much PP.
Castable? I think yes. Loosing (hopefully) 10 points of Appearance of Charisma is quite worth the effort.
I'm playing a drakish priest now. He's not of a wand birthsign though, but I'll live it over. I'm not going for UlE, and hope after the closing of the gate to turn him into an Archmage.

I shall implement a new term for priests if this happens - something like Hierophant, for priests have different names and 'sources' for everything :)

BTW: i wonder if it's possible to use a less effective but still worthy version of wish engine based on the mana orb. you'd use the orb to increase your mana stat by 10 (increase the score three times by 3, which means about 9-10 corruptions;) whenever it drops and spend most of your wishes on SoCR (as - combined with the orb - they are slightly better than potions of mana, cause you get only two of the latter per wish, and SoCR need only one potion of water) and (occasionally) on willpower. this could still leave some wishes for PoGAs, etc. however, this idea has to be tested;).
