Can I have some tips on luring children away from the village to eat them, I'm having trouble. By the way, do all y'all ADOM experts know a quick an' easy way to be corrupted? And is the Quickling tree a place, or do you become a Quickling?

The children thing is kind of scary. Thus I have no tips for that.

But, to become corrupted:

1) Find a corruption trap and Ctrl + t it for a long long time until you are thoroughly corrupted. You can just hold down the Ctrl + t if you wish.

(Ctrl + t activates the trap. At least, that's what my memory tells me. It might even be alt + t, but try ctrl + t first :)

2) Find the Black Tome of Alsophocus and read it. (Hehe, it turns up whenever you don't want it, but I bet you it will never ever turn up when you want it :)

3) -SPOILISH-

When you find any of the elemental orbs from the elemental temples, you can put them in your tool slot and repeatedly 'u'se them for corruptions and other beneficial effects.

To get corrupted you might also find Moon Sickle, dip it into a random potion, and get a potion of raw chaos. Drink it, then nother one, then another - and you'll get very corrupted son.

As for children - why don't you Chikatilo just slaughter everyione in the village, eating children in the process?

For corruption, looking for a trap is a much more convenient way.

For children: You can wish for them ;) or do as nchurmdaz say, kill all the village or alternatively:

1) Look for some poor kid around the border.

2a) Then attacks it in coward, hoping it wont die right away (villagers turn hostile) then lure it out.

2b) Order a slave/companion to attack it (villagers turn hostile toward slave/companion), while staying at the border, then call them staying next to you. Adjust your possition till you are next to the border AND the kid, then exit the village.

2c) Wait till a kid is next to you and you next to the border (villagers dont turn hostile), . Then exit the village.

3) Enter the next square and enjoy the hunt ;)

At least to my knowledge children don't leave corpses. I might be wrong though.

If you don't like TongHoAnh's way here's another:

Have some teleport other means. Keep teleporting a child until it gets to a border. Then it will not move and you can get him/her out. Happy eating if the child leaves corpse (from the ADOM Knowledge Lair: child, farmer and goodwife has a 0,00035% chance to drop a corpse normally), Cannibal.

Actually they'll never get close enough to the border. So the easy way to do it is hang around the border till one is close enough, and repeatedly switch position with him till you get desired effect. the villagers wont go hostile.

Have fun.

samething as children with sheriff, druid and the baby dragon. you need to "anger" munxip to let loose him, though.

Yeah, mechants are sorta made with an invisible sign above their heads that says "DON'T PISS ME OFF UNLESS YOU ARE ABOVE LEVEL 30." I think TB intended it to be that way.

What happens when you throw a potion of exchange at a shopkeeper? Do they have resistance against it or do they just evade it?

They allways turn into cats.
LOTS of cats
^^

BTW, how about a movement for abolishing stone block traps? Like infantry mines, but in ADOM. :) I've lost a damn lot of low-level chars to these randomly generated pieces of crap in corridors.

Here's another example:

V, the dark elven wizard, got his head smashed by a stone block.
He scored 1649 points.
He survived for 0 years, 0 days, 15 hours, 30 minutes and 3 seconds (282
turns).

/snap/

He did not manage to vanquish any monsters.

Count me in for the movement!
You drop the golden ball.
You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.
Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?"
Which direction? (123456789) 4
Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated.
You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd!

Detecting them in itself is no problem. Detecting them before triggering them is another story.

Stone block traps usually only kill low level spellcasters, and they neither have wands nor spells nor the skill to detect traps... It's merely a matter of bad luck. This could be avoided by not exploring dungeons at all... And there's not much point in that, is there?

(Seriously though, training a spellcaster in the Wilderness could be a way to avoid nasty surprises... But I'd rather take the risk of getting my head smashed than that of getting surrounded by summoned jackals.)

Spellcasters handle uberjackals easiest. ____ Ball, Improved fireball will do.

BTW, why isn't there any other kind of improved ball?

I was talking about early game strategies here. In the early game, becoming surrounded (even by "normal" jackals) is *nasty* for spellcasters due to their low PV, since they neither have enough power points nor time to handle them all with their starting bolt spell.

These are some thoughts on low-level wizards, and how to make it easier for them to 'Concentrate';). Aimed primarily at newbies.

Spoiler

You can easily increase your concentration to 80 by level 2, over 90 by level 3 (mayhap even 100 already), and guaranteed 100 by level 4.

To do that, enter wilderness on first tile, learn one of your spells, then bookcast it as much as PP's allow you to - light, for example might be even cast twice :). Then, walk to Terinyo, your PP should be full by that time. Again - bookcast your spell there. Travel to were you like to go, stopping in the wildereness every time you have full PP. Repeat the process 'till you reach your First Cave. Repeat the process there too, untill you get your first level-up.

That's all. By the itme you get those 100-250 xps, your Concentration should be trained well enough so that you can easily increase it to desired numbers. Pay attention that it is *very* difficult to be killed by casual monsters on level one (except SMC) even if meeling them with your Staff or even Mighty Fist.

Once you've set your concentration to 100 you can easily go to PC:2 to pillage Ants for level 6+(?) with your Bolt :). You can now kill 4+ of them in a tight corridor with 1d2 castings, giving your enought time to recover till new ones arrive. And, surely, enjoy your guaranteed Vault on the bottom level.

And a decent Cute Dog corpse snack :D
