My Dark elf wizard just sacrificed himself to Lol'th. He strangled himself to death on the altar, and in his last few seconds heard "Lol'th howling in triumph". This is why I play ADOM.

P.S. I didn't put this in most common causes of death because it isn't the kind of thing that frustrates you by killing all of your characters.

He did what? How do you strangle yourself? The only way to kill yourself without magic is, IIRC, kicking in the air until you break your legs (And that only works with low regeneration). Oh, and you can engage in self-flagellation too. Did you do either of that?

Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?"

No, Silfir, when you have NO items, it is possible to sacrifice yourself on altar.

Why exactly does the deity howl in triumph?

Now THAT is something I would've never tried ;)

And there I thought, after the Guidebook, that I would never again learn new things about ADOM.

Try that with an AoLS on. ;)

(You will lose the AoLS.)

Hmm, does it increase piety to sacrifice yourself?

I'm not sure, but it does draw your alignment closer to deity's. ALOT. Oh yeah, and my god chuckled in my case. I think you dont have good relationship with yours, o questionmarkedheah :)

'Howled in triumph' - because Lol'th is a chaotic god. Howling is ok for him.

"Howling was ok for him." - Really made me laugh :))

Though my question was not the "howling", but the "triumph".

ofcource the chaotic god wants you dead, since you are either going to stop the forces of chaos, or killing his boss

that is only with sacrificing normal things Morio. When you sac normal things, your piety is increased. Sacing yourself does not increase piety but has an effect on alignment. Therefore sacing yourself with an AoLS is likely to break more than one rule. I don't think the guidebook mentions *everything* anyway.
