From the ADOM usernet groups. Enjoy! <-- Begin of copied section --> Fire immunity - class power - check. Blessed ring of ice - check. Blessed fireproof blanket - check. Heap of 300 assorted, otherwise useless herb bushes - check. Willpower: 56 - scummmed earlier with herbs, sickness and starwation, and some potions, +10 from mana orb, +5 from sword of Nonak, +7 from preserver (yay!) -- total 78. More then enough. So I've entered boldly (on coward tactics really but don't tell anybody) Mana temple, sword in one hand, burning torch in the other, invisible (from potions) and managed to take convenient place right in the middle, before chaos servants swarmed me. Speed and stealth do help. Then I quaffed one potion of boost willpower, just to push it over 80. Alchemy is funny in adom, you know, when you mix two herbs together, they explode. Really cheap fireballs! They cost zero PP and two herb bushes each. And with willpower of 80, they barely fit into that tiny room that is called Mana Temple. After about 30 explosions there was only me, and Chaos Archmage, who is immune to fire. So I killed him with quarrels of humanoid slaying. brojek. <-- End of copied section --> My RL dumpyard: http://www.geocities.com/ceruleannebula/index.html |

For those not reading the newsgroup brojek's character was a weaponsmith who happened to learn alchemy from a scroll of education. This is obviously a bit of a buggy thing about fireballs in ADOM - the game always uses the character's willpower to determine the size and strength of them, whether it's a trap or a random explosion from alchemy or book-reading. Makes for some amusing fun though :) Waldenbrook, the dwarven shopkeeper, mumbles: "I'd offer 9 gold pieces for yer dwarven child corpse." |

I intend to use this when I storm the Mana Temple. I'm a Dark Elf Wizard, fairly high Willpower with pretty good ballspells. Now my tactics will vary slightly The magebane eyes are next to the walls, and ball spells and presumably herb explosions go beyond walls and doors. Use ball spells until they have drained me, and then use the herbs trick. This will enable me to enter the temple with almost full mana to wipe the rest out. Now, wheres that necklace of death ray resistance I put down earlier? |

I always like to learn new tricks like these, I'm expanding my reportoire. This gives me another reason to wish for alchemy. I haven't actually played Adom in about a month, I'm just keeping in touch with the latest developments. The following is a real Adom message: The homunculus hits you. You suddenly fall asleep! Do you want to continue to read the spellbook of Calm Monster? [y/N] |
