I have a 22 HE archer (I had a thread about him awhile ago), and is thinking of doing ToeF. He has 220 hp, some healing pots, 25 pv and 50 dv. As an archer, he is planning on using some dragon slaying ammo. Problem is, he doesn't have rings of ice. He does have one wish, but I was thinking of using it for Swords of sharpness, as my current wep is eternium axe/shield. I do have some artifact 2H, but they're not any good (Soaker, glaive). What should I do? Sorry about so many threads about this but I have only been getting here recently. I haven't done darkforge, have a spell or two but nothing to rely on. What should I do? Crowing gift was thunderstroke (as an bow person, yuk) fire resistance I think I can get. What should I do? Thanks in advance.

Just bless your arrows - they won't burn that quickly. Btw, perhaps you should consider whips of the snake instead of sword of sharpness for archers? (dex bonuses?)

Depends exactly what you have that you are worried about getting burnt. Sometimes you can get in, do the business and get out without needing a RoI.

I take it you have been wandering in the wilderness looking for roving bands of barbarians? If not, search for em, go (C)oward mode and let them shoot all the arrows. Eventually you'll find some Dragon ammos, arrows of slaying or penetrating arrows to help kill the Wyrm.

Swords of Sharpness rock. Nothing wrong with them. Although I usually play it safe and wish for the rings. Better safe than sorry!
Ladies and Gentleman, take my advice. Pull down your pants, and slide on the ice.

Shoot, I went in and BOTH my blankets got burned in one turn (not the 1st though). I wasn't wearing RoI yet because I fire resistance and was trying to eat a corpse to get resistance. Now I'm in a bit of trouble. I need fire resistance and more blankets. Any ideas on how to get them? Or, do rings of ice protect inventory not equipment?

Rings of ice protect everything but themselves, but can be protected with gauntlets/gloves.

Both in the inventory and your equipment. Ofcourse, it's best to have blankets and rings.

Oh, my, god. I found a glowing wand. Two charges. That means I get 3 more wishes. What should I wish for? GoGs? SlBs? Whips of the snake? I'm gonna go kill AKW.

Personally I would take fireproof blankets over RoI since the extra ring slots can be used for confusion resistance and the like - so if you don't have any blankets/RoI then wish for those (and, obviously, wish for the plural).

After that I would be tempted to wish for some means of on-demand invisibility (ring of invisibility being an obvious choice). It will be useful throughout the game - especially in the ToEF unless you happen to be insanely powerful (and few characters are at this point in the game).

Finally, I would wish for wands of poison or paralyzation (or both). Again, both will be useful throughout the game for taking down difficult enemies and make tackling the ACW *considerably* easier.

I wouldn't waste a wish on dragon-slaying ammo. As PeanutGod pointed out, it can be easily scummed from barbarian encounters (I think slaying ammo can also be created via fletchery - someone correct me here if I am wrong though).

I also wouldn't wish for the whips - they are a luxury at this stage in the game and won't help you much in the ToEF unless you have RoI.

Wishing for SLS is nearly always worth it - however, I would only do so if you are confident that you have what it takes to complete the ToEF. And based on what you have posted, it sounds like blankets, ROI, wands, etc. would be more useful.

So, all in all, my recommended wishing shortlist would be:

1. Fireproof blankets.
2. Wands of poison / paralyzation.
3. Rings of invisibility / SLB.

I haven't used it yet and just did TOEF. I had nine dragon slaying arrows and only used two. One got him to critical. A second knocked him down. I had invis, but didn't use it and wanted to melle them (My player is like a walking tank. 300hp 127dv 50pv on coward and can still hit in melee). I went in a longggg dive into the ID down to aboud 25 or so. Came back up, ate a fire drake corpse and got a fireproof blanket along with some cool items. Anyway, what should I wish for? Should I head to casino and see what I want there? I usually find a SLBs there.

Dun dun dun. I did it! I won! Last battle was hard because the weak guys were so hard I would rather fight Fisty again then one of them. I'm gonna run around and get some more exp as I only got to level 47. I always wanted to see archers 50 ability. I'm also gonna play tourist for awhile and do blue dragon caves. Thanks for all the help, btw, because I haven't savescummed how do I submit the char to the HoF?

Edit: What the heck. I was running around and a etremely exped quickling lord killed me. On the thing it doesn't say after winning. I handled both levers and left. Does this mean I didn't win?

Handling both levers may not be enough, because one of the monsters on D:50 could open them again. On the other hand, you shouldn't be able to go up from D:48 until the levers have been permanently closed. (For the record, to achieve this you either destroy them with a wand of destruction or kill absolutely everything on D:50.)

Yeah, I did wand of destruction ending. My biggest fear is that I didn't handle one of them or when I destroyed it there was a creature on it so he might have re-handled it. Darn, I even had a wish to save Kenny and two greater vaults to plunder. On a backup (i copied the backup so i had 2)I teleported onto the 8. It was still there but it said the gate seems to be empty. I tried to go through it and handle it but it didn't work. Also, I had another backup and I went up and left the chain, It said something like this ,"You leave the chain and go back to your people. They acknowledge your great deeds and valor. They ackowlege that she helped to save the world that she knows from complete desrtuction. She is crowned queen of all high elves and lives a long and happy life" Did this mean I won or not?

the (after winning) message when you die after closing the gate is only in earlier version(s).

Your character clearly closed the gate and saved the world ect. But she died, it's up to you if you call it a win or not.

Hmmm... I'll still try to do it again, but I'm wondering if I can submit the char who died to the HoF. Can I?

Gozer: Slaying ammo can be generated with fletchery. And I think any other ammo too. Though it is random so the chance of getting slaying ammo is low.

My current winner gnome wizard (that I am going to aim for another Archmage) had a pile of fletchery sets (some 25 I guess, most of them from dipping surplus keys in !oEx). I deforested some forest squares to get blessed logs (to maximise the number of arrows I get) and had the fletchery sets blessed as well. Among the results were some slaying arrows and even unerring arrows of slaying (neat).

The char now has some 5500+ (yes, over five and half thousand) plain uncursed arrows and over 900 blessed plain arrows. Shouldn't run out soon...

Morio: perhaps. But the chance of getting blessed log from living tree is probably quite low. Plus if one was attempting to fletcher (?) in the dungeons there would probably be some wandering monsters disturbing the char.

why not to fletcher in dwarftown or ogre cave?

and it is so simple to kill trees with wizard: down stairs - get surounded, upstairs fireball, check for logs and stuff -- repeat till you satisfed.

And I don't think the chance to get blessed logs from living tree is any lower than the chance to get them from normal trees.

And you can still bless 'em yourself if you like...

It's not that hard in wilderness, either. Just put a hatchet in tool slot, walk to a tree square and use the hatchet. However, it is quite food consuming. Even a blessed stomafillia won't allow too much woodcutting. And fletching also seems quite food consuming. But food is not a problem with some 200 uncursed stomafillia and 300+ blessed ones...

Yeah, blessing the logs is also possible. However, using holy water is unwise since each log requires one potion. Fortunately it is possible to use the repair scroll trick to bless the lot at once...

You take a cursed scroll of repair, then read it on them. They become broken. Then, use a blessed and so they become un-broken and become blessed. I'm not sure about using the cursed one, I think you have to.

That works on the uncursed logs, right? So first, you would be well advised to read a blessed scroll of uncursing on the lot of your cursed logs.
