I've encountered artifacts in Gift shop. They cost like 1000000gp but because there are those slot machines they are easily bought. What if I bought all the items in gift shop, then new ones would be generated, would there be a chance for an artifact to be generated as well? This way the player could farm artifacts and become enormoysly powerful.

Possible, though unlikely. Artifacts are IME rarely generated. Another good place for scumming for artifacts is the BDC. I've often found artifacts generated there. My current Archmage-in-making char has already found in the BDC several artifact weapons (Emerald Dagger, Long Sting, Wyrmlance, Hammerhead etc.), armor (Preserver, Bracers of War, Nature's Companion...) and miscallenous artifact stuff (Black Tome of A**ef**kus). Then again, I've already killed over 2000 ancient blue dragons and over 2000 regular ones so the generation probability is indeed slim.

I've had a fair number of artefacts generated in the casino, as well as when the shopkeeper restocks. just make sure that you dump everything in one spot, so he'll restock a fair bit.

I agree with Real J. In my Archmage attempt, the BDC were pretty good. Also, I was finding a crazy amount in the ID. With tension rooms of Great Wyrms, Titans, Dragons, Karmics etc, they were dropping some good stuff, must have found around 6/7 artefacts this way. Although.....not everyone wants to travel down to LV 200/300/400 just for this.

I'm quite sure artifact can't be generated in a restocking shop, only the first time you enter the level. I have let the casino and other shops restock and I never get an artifact. are you sure you arent mistaking peanut?

and BDC is indead infinite artifacts, banshee helps, if she doesnt kill you.

PeanutGod: Does the ID depth really affect tension rooms that much ? I've been roaming around ID200 but IIRC haven't had much luck in finding tension rooms of great wyrms, titans or karmics. Individual ones are relatively common even around ID45, though (at least in my game they have been).

If they really are common around, say ID300, then I might consider diving there to get more stuff.

EJ: I'm pretty sure that artefacts can be re-generated in shops. I'm not 100%, but I swear I found the crappy scorced spear after the shop keeper restocked. I could be mistaken though.

RJ: Deep deep deep in the ID, I was getting crazy things. Mind you, I was down over ID:1000, but I was getting good stuff at around 400 or so. Tension rooms of named Wyrms, Ancient Karmics, Greater Titans (which take about a zillion years to kill, even with a magic missle powered through the roof!), you name it. And some of the stuff dropped was sheer heaven! When you get deeper, tensions rooms of goblins/orcs/rats etc do tend to lessen in my experience, being replaced with some much harder beasties!

Loads of artifacts in the Casino are usually generated for me. But, i have a high resoultion. In my winner, he got Skullcrusher, Thunderstroke, Soaker, Longsting, along with LOTS of good regulars (ie. GoGs, eternium long sword of devestation, u name it). Idk if items can be generated in restock, i'd imagine no or casino would be WAYYYYY too good.

PeanutGod: to my current char greater titans are no threat. Unless the enemies also get much tougher deeper on they should pose no prob to the char. The char practically eats ancient dragons for appetizer, great karmic wyrms for main course, couple of greater titans for dessert and picks his teeth with claws of killer bugs...

On the lower levels, greater titans are nice and easy. When you get down to ID:1000 or so, Greater Titans are extremely hard to take down. They just don't wanna play nice and die.

PeanutGod: I see. I seem to have noticed myself that deeper down monsters tend to get more powerful. I've only been around ID200 myself and around there monsters aren't that bad. So around ID 400 tension rooms of wyrms, great karmics and greater titans are relatively common ? Perhaps I'd still better get the char Archmaged before diving that deep. A char with 10000+ hit points, PP and speed shouldn't have too much to worry around ID 400-500 as long as one is careful...

With that many HP, you should be fine around those levels. Just prepare to rub your hands in glee everytime you wipe out a tension room of named wyrms....oooo it feels good!

Actually, arch mages have one problem. You can burst your speed and HP and PP through the roof. But, you can't really amount to damage. Sure, if you get needle and sting you do alot. But, level 100 titans don't really want to die to that. So, you have to spell everything or settle to not doing enough damage in about 10 attacks to kill, so you wait, and wait, and wait some more while attacking them to kill them. Anyway, what's beyond level 1000? Do the creatures just get more powerful or do you find secret monsters? Someone should get a AM like Gozer and find out.

There are no secrets monsters, and no secrets in the ID beyond level 67. Monsters get increasingly harder and harder and harder, but to an Archmage that's just a matter of patience. It's considered a "challenge" to see who can get the deepest into the ID. Not sure what the highest number has been, but it's been pretty damn deep...

My highest was 1392. Got to third on the Fallen Hero's Hall of Fame. I thought that was pretty good. Working on my next diver now, although he's not having a good time of it.

Besides, if you're doing a dive, you don't need to attack monsters. You stick some fingers up at them, call them every name under the sun, do some magic mapping and then teleport to the downstairs. Levels just fly by. The only real problem I found are quickling kings/queens. Down over ID: 1000, these little buggers will just wipe out your HP for the fun of it. See one.......and run!

Yeah, what happens if you get telepor in a room with lots of quicklings that has the staircase? You gotta teleport out, get them to follow you, then teleport in and go down. All the while getting hit by very exped quicklings. Also, is there any limit to the level of monsters? It would be interesting seeing level 500 goblins being able to kill Andor Drakon... Anyway, in the story it said good made it and chaos warped it to it's current state. Just wondering, why did light make a big infinite cavern? And then how did evil somehow populate it? Plus, if you close gate shouldn't evil people stop spawning or it stop being evil?

I look at the ID as having been a normal dungeon, or some kind of holy place before Chaos decided to invade it and turn it into the dangerous hellhole that it is today. It certainly wasn't infinite before Chaos invaded

"Yeah, what happens if you get telepor in a room with lots of quicklings that has the staircase? You gotta teleport out, get them to follow you, then teleport in and go down. "

why not teleport back to the up stairs, go up a level, down one, and look for the stairs anew? :P

I always imagined the infinite dungeon as having once been a tower of light and crystal. It was infinitely high, soaring into the heavens, and each floor up would have a different random arrangement of crystals, refracting and reflecting the light in a myriad of beautiful and scintillating patterns. But although it was random, it was ordered. "A monument to infinity" I think the Mad Minstril called it, and it truly was a dedication to the infinite beauty of the world.

But then chaos came, and the tower became tainted and deserted. It fell down, and in its wake it left a collapsed ruin of dungeons. Then the chaos knight came, possessing the Sceptre of Chaos, redolent with ancient evil. He led an army of vile and dement creatures and took over the dungeon, and the corruption of the artifact warped the holy power into something far more sinister. MaLaKaI was fleeing the forces of Andor Drakon, who sought to stop him escaping with one of the three keys to the gate, and so he dove deep, where the dungeon became darker and more dangerous.

He hoped the horrors of the infinite dungeon would stop any of Andor's forces penetrating deep enough to find him. But he did not reckon that there were other powerful forces who would seek him out. Competitors to the title of Chaos God, or heroes wishing to vanquish the ancient evil for eternity. Champions who would survive the insanity of the deep dive, and who would return to the surface with new power and the potential to rise to the greatest heights.

But after all, that wouldn't happen would it? Keriax held the Crown, and none could surpass him even if they could find him hidden in the dark circle. And none could take the Medal from Gab'baay by force. And she wouldn't sell them out, would she...? Yes, the chaos knight thought he was safe, sitting deep in the dungeon with the ancient artifact corrupting his mind further and further...

That's a nice piece of literature, Darren. Do you write?
Molach: "I like to have 200+ hp and over 5 good healin potions when I do [the fire] temple. AND some way of killing the Wyrm"

Just thinking: if the char had speed in the thousands wouldn't quickling kings/queens just be on equal terms with the char ? And with some 10000+ HP, all stats maximised, all ball spells at effectivity 150+ they just couldn't hit and run.

Plus, an archmage could just prepare well before the dive with a huge pile of PoUH and AoLS, permanent invisibility and caution. One wouldn't need to fight the monsters, just skip past them. After all, a majority of monsters don't see invisible no matter how experienced, right ?
