Try searching from here with "piety overflow". I myself haven't tried it, but this looks like a good way to do it (By Iridia)

Spoiler

Here's my method...

You need:
-about 150 HP (enough to survive Bolts of True Matter)
-A source of freezing
-A source of fire, to melt the ice (Burning Hands doesn't work)
-Some useless items you don't mind having destroyed
-A good supply of food
-The Old Barbarian led to a safe place, or to already have gotten Courage.

Best way to do it is to be Neutral or Lawful (greater daemons have fire breath that can reach you), then to freeze your way into the Barbarian's Glade river, and then melt the ice around you with fire. Be at the edge of the level, so that one step will take you out of the level. You now have a safe little ice island.

Drop everything, equip a single worthless item, and start praying until the item is destroyed by your deity.

Pick up another item, equip it, and repeat until that one is destroyed.

Repeat that until you get hit with a bolt of true matter, which will take off about 100 HP. Heal up, get hit again; heal up; get hit again.

After two or three bolts the god will start summoning creatures; and that is when you hit the "_" button and hold it down. Be sure you have a lot of food, and that you eat it when you need to.

When your deity stops summoning creatures, you will know the piety counter has overflowed. You are now ready to be crowned as many times as your level allows.

Your god's summonings are also easy prey for your Bolt spells; though you will have to be careful of your alignment if you are lawful.

If you've frozen the right spot in the Barbarian's Glade, you should be right on the border of the level and be able to leave it without having to fight your way through the summoned creatures.

Oh remember, I think it's considered to be cheating on HoF? Is it?

That is definetly a cheat. It is using using a glitch in the code, as opposed to the way the world is programmed to work.

Actually, it's not considered cheating on HoF. Well, some might think of it as cheating. Look up blitz, he is the second person I think on highscore.Used piety overflow if I'm not mistaken.

So, after the god stops summoning, if you pray, you get crowned instantly? Or can you get crowned infinitely, provided you have enough piety? Sounds interesting

noob, i guess it works just like normal crowning, pre/post crowning, it's just that your piety is way way way up there, enough for a LOT of stuff. ie: i assume you still only get one crowning (if you have proper extreme aligment), and the number of pre/post crownings are still limited by your level and # of artifacts generated in the game.

This method will get you enough piety for whatever you want.

So the limiting factor will be the level-thing. Only real way to generate levels without normal progression would be to summon monsters to kill, AKWs spring to mind.

If you were at to reach level 50 without generating artifacts, then did this trick, you should be able to pray 14 times for 14 artifacts...

Speaking of bugs, whats your feelings about the dragon hoard money bug?
I think Ill call this an unforseen bug rather than a feature to be exploited. All dragons drop gold anyway, so I'd say its a result of a programming error that a pile of gold picked up by a dragon should suddenly be doubled. With my second-to-last character I found a white dragon vault, and after a few droppings I really had a lot of gold. Put on a blesses girdle of greed, and then I was able to walk around with 27 BILLION gold. This was post-casino so it didn't have much effect on my char, but this exploit can really make early-mid level characters more powerful by easy precrowns and Dwarven stat-shopping.

Nothing you can do is banned, of course, but I'd feel that a character abusing this was not quite a moral winner...

Well, there are things like that. Gremlin scumming. Gremlin scumming without killing people (google groups for the Eternium post using this, very interesting, idk if steel is real)are a few. Casino for hours plus training. One thing though, for early the dragon is quite possible. Just scum wilderness for red dragons in swamp, but it's a moral dilemma.

I think the casino is meant to be a source of gold by the programmer. It takes some time(real time at least). And it comes at a point in the game where the money ain't that important. And it will not give NEAR the same amount of gold as a small herd of dragons. Its the doubling that makes it so powerful. With ONE gold piece you will be a millionaire by meeting 20 dragons...

Gremlins are also not a result of programming error. They multiply in water. They ARE found outside of a certain low-drop cave. The cave is full of water traps, so it does not take a genius to figure out what might happen if a gremlin somehow happened to hit a water trap in a regular dungeon. I think this was at least partly considered by TB. Alarm traps so your kill # doesn't go up or water cave pickpocketing are again in line with programming, and quite masterful exploit of a feature.

Dragon's gold is a bug, I say!

Still hasn't stopped me from "accidently" dropping some cash JUST when running away from a ferocious baby dragon.

But at least I don't scum for dragons

Much

No I'm not judging or anything. Just want to define "bug" versus "feature exploit".

i am not so sure about dragon gold being bug.

anyway piety overload under your definition is not a bug. just exploiting the code.

oveload, gremlin pickpocket in water cave and feeding Garth with billions of money fall into the category --- things i never do, becouse they against my moral.

okay, almost. i've got plans for piety overload...

also question -- if wish engine possibility is a feature. i doubt this.

Wish engine - feature. Not due to some code bug, just poor game design in that odds of getting djinni summoning rings is too high, compared to number of potions of exchange you can get from 19 wishes.

Piety overload - bug. Because the integer wraps around, suddenly jumping from negative to positive. Programmer should have put in a IF check to stop the wrapping and set the piety at some lowest number.

Cross-alignment piety - feature. When you irritate one god, the others will become pleased with you. So you can do 200 prayers to one diety, then change alignment, and your new god will be very happy with you.

Dragon's hoarde - bug (in my opinion, but Ill agree it's debatable). Gold doubles because of a unforseen glitch in programming caused by gold-dropping monsters picking up gold coins.

I'm not even saying that "feature" is okay, and "bug" is not. Just making a distinction.
Bug:
* things that happen because variables in the program act funny due to low robustness of program. Fixed by adding IF checks (or something, I'm not really a programmer)
Examples: Ingot - crash bug. Dragon's hoarde bug. Piety wraparound bug. Cat lord exp dropping to nil when he is very very very experienced.
Feature exploit:
* Using the code in clever ways to obtain advantages. NOTE: Some of these were probably intended by TB, and are meant to be used by the good players. Some were probably never thought of, and therefore due to suboptimal game design. Feature exploits are fixed by altering parameters (as opposed to "fixing" the code.
Examples:
>Reading the scroll of warning 100 times in SMC, to train literacy.
>Walking around strained to train STR.
*These two are probably intended.
>Eating morgia/using moss of m. while sick to train stats higher than "normal" boundries. *Possibly intended, else can be fixed by calculating stat gain chance relative to "real" Stat, not "current" stat level.
>Killing Gremlins in a water-trapped room outside gremlin cave for items/weapon marks/experience
*Possibly intended. As one kills gremlins they become tougher, which might be the balance against this.
>Alarm traps/pickpocket gremlins to avoid kill number going up
* Not intended, I should think. Possible fixes could be that gremlins get tougher as more are GENERATED, not killed. And that they see invisible. For example.
> Wish engine
* Not intended. Possible easy fix would be that you can only dip like 5 rings at a time (or some other likely number).

This is also just my definition of bug vs. feature. Both can be game making/breaking. I guess the only answer to what is "okay" and what is not will be appearent when (if) TB releases another patch/version. Those features which were fixed were not okay....

So up to the individual player.

A question, if you dip potions of -foo- in potions of raw chaos, can you get potions of exchange? If so, I can think of a way to do Eternium man if you get a certain unwanted precrown without gremlin scumming....

a good place to do the piety overflow thingy is the ID just stand on the stairs, create 8 doors around you and lock them (iirc none of the summoned monsters can smash doors), this way you won't make an area useless, just leave the level and the monsters will disappear.

Morio - just checked, Holy Slayers (neutral summons) smash doors.
They're no match for a 16 lvl beastfighter, but I almost got to lvl 17 (no piramid).
EDIT: decided that since they can't catch me (speed 134), I'll pray in the wilderness and run away - so far it works, but each prayer takes 1 hour game time .

The precrowns... bah. Hammer of the gods, staff of the archmagi... nice for a beastfighter, aren't they? :P

Futher testing - for chaotics, the ID+door tricks is pretty hard, teleporting greater daemons result in a lot of errors, something about interlaping monsters and deleting them.

It seems the best way to cheat your god is to be lawful. Ironic, isn't it? ;)

EDIT: exactly 2 types of errors have occured - one internal error, due to summoning - "putting a monster (...) at a blocked place" while praying, and another due to "stacking monsters".

Why is it illogical that a foot long creature doesn't double large piles of gold? One important point I think is whether or not pixies double gold, since they're the only creatures besides dragons I can think of that always drop gold. I mean, the thing that strikes me as weird is how only dragons double gold. If it's not something that affects all gold-dropping monsters then it seems to me like it's deliberate (though far too exploitable).

Oh, and I don't think wish engine is not a bug, for the simple fact that TB has made it impossible to get RoDS from potions of chaos. He was obviously making wish engine more difficult (since with raw chaos it'd be way too easy). If he wanted to stop it altogether he could have made it impossible to get RoDS from potions of exchange as well.

and baby dragons sound logical? monster memmory describes them "about a size of a large dog". and it picks up a million in gold pieces and doesn't get crushed?

in adom terms 1million is 10.000 stones which being equal to 500kg pure gold. quite a power for baby's size, indeed.

and just checked the trick with pixie and pixie archer. no double. Blurp, iirc, does double money.

Dragons do make sense. In every book I've read that includes dragons, they hoard gold and valuable equipment. So, it makes sense that they drop large amounts. I take it none of you have ever read, "The Hobbit"
