Oh man, that's bad :( I assume you're converting to lawful at the first opportunity and staying lawful too? I never read more than the first Drizzt book, but as far as I'm aware he pretty much always kept to the twin swords.

Yeah I went lawful. And the silly dwarves still misunderstand me, that ¤%#%/#" shopkeep gives me soo low prices. I have to trek over to HMV and a random shop in UD to sell stuff. Money = stats.

Well mabye Ill get something better with my crowning. Too lazy to wait around for a second precrown. I want the game to advance now.

Mabye I can try to get hawkslayer as companion, that might be somewhat in-character. I can rename him "Wulfgar". I've never actually done that before, is there anything I need to know (that can ruin my chances of getting him)?

Oh yeah I certainly need to learn the darkness spell at some point.

have you considered not trading in golden gladius?
sounds stupid but...

not bad weapon overall with bonus to speed and light weight and being a sword. tactics can be wished for at some point.

If you can wait for so long to get Tactics, why not turn in the golden gladius as soon as you get that free wish? You get Backstabbing and Two Weapon Combat as a bonus, and the speed bonus you could get from a wish far exceeds the meager +7 of the golden gladius.

Not that I'd like to keep the golden gladius even a second. Even the Sword of Nonnak has better damage than the golden gladius.
You drop the golden ball.
You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.
Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?"
Which direction? (123456789) 4
Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated.
You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd!

i have in mind dual wielding ranger. two weapons is probably not a bonus and weight of weapon is a factor.

please remind me how you get far more then +7 permanent speed with one wish. three potions of quickling blood doesn't exceed +10, iirc.

and in normal game i wouldn't consider keeping gladius. just same as getting healing, it is not a question of life and death, but there are no reasons to act otherwise.

Hoi, update time.

I checked some facts about Drizzt on wikipedia. And somehow I got a few things right:
He left home, shunned by his own folk, and went to the surface. (In char background he left his family and wandered the wilderness)
He has a hidden, dark side, which comes out in times of tremendous stress, referred to as "the Hunter". (My char is born in the month of the Wolf)
He is in fact a ranger (...)
He usually wields two scimitars, carries a long dagger and two for throwing, and he occationally wields a longbow. (Now I got Eternium+Adamantium scimitar, phase dagger, and bow skill training up)
He can conjure magical darkness (My char knows the darkness spell. Exclusively)
He has lavender eyes, not the usual red for Drow. Black skin and white hair (My char has blue eyes, close enough. And skin+hair, which I think all dark elves get)

And, best of all, he is actually listed as a level 16 character (+2 something), which is exactly the level I am right now, when I stopped playing.

He lives and does well, but I keep in mind that without the challenge part he would now be wielding executor, and packing an [+9,+5] eternium shield. Pretty unstoppable at the point I am now. ...rest of the game....

Well anyway.

I did SMC, then UD, then CoC. Finding a neutral altar on D:4 or so, I changed to Neutral as quick as I could. Then went down to the big room to get some herbs, and then a bit lower to collect the SI, then down to D:7 to look around, wasn't planning to enter Dwarftown unless I was lawful. But D:7 had a lawful altar! So I changed to the Lawful good character Drizzt is. So I entered dwarftown, to get that first quest.

Then I read this:
I assume you're converting to lawful at the first opportunity and staying lawful too?
And of course it hits me: I CAN'T GET PICKPOCKETING AND DETECT TRAPS NOW!

Well thank god for alertness, I only triggered half of the traps in the pyramid....

As a consolation prize, I found worn boots just before dwarftown, and I found a pool just below it. I figured it was safe to drink, because I was just below an altar, and had decent enough gear and HP to survive Elementals. One sip and what do I wish for? hmmm. Went for amulet of life saving.

(One more sip: Dooming. Then on the way back, I see an extra wall (beast) that tries very hard to kill me. But I survive using only 2 prayers)

Now I need a figurine shop in TotHK, with a "cave tiger" figurine I guess...

Dwarven graveyard done too.

My trollish wizard is kicking butt!I started a trollish wizard after A)Watching Markku Rikola's demos and B)Our story in the stories forum

Well, I named him Lawf'okong and he currently is onD:5 and has protector(precrown) and is level 6 in swords, polearms, and shields.I want to get one more precrowning, then get detect traps(I'm lawful) and go get crowned at dwarftown.I've killed around 300 spiders, dodged 7 cats(teleportation rocks) and am considering going for my first win with this char.Question: If I choose not to do a ULE, can I still go kill the emperor moloch, cuz I want(provided I make it that far) the hulking armor to smith and make awesome so I'll be unstoppable. Though I must say that the hardest part is that in the beginning(very beginning) it is almost necessary to do the Kranach quest for the money, so you can buy food constantly.Other than that , they're really strong and spells are just a backup in my case.

Just completed the game for the fourth time in the 3+ years I've been playing the game - the first since 2005 - with Carl, the hurthling thief.

A highly enjoyable game (as opposed to my first win which was a miserable affair). Took a lot more game time than usual - day 90 began while I was cutting through WMOPCs in D:50 - since my character took a lot longer to reach an experience level where certain tasks could be safely completed, e.g. the down stair case of the SMC was hidden beyond a tension room which, unknown to me, had no summoners and obtaining the wand of teleportation in the very dusty dungeon level proved difficult.

Since I never intended anything beyond a standard win the unremarkable dungeon was never a neccesary place to visit but it proved worth it. A pair of seven league boots and a mithril spear of penetration were generated there. The boots were destroyed when my 100 alertness, 100 detect traps thief walked into an acid trap (worse still, I was in the assassins guild collecting missile ammo and knew it was there but forgot to perform the check) but the spear stayed with me for the entire game.

It's the first time I've used a weapon of penetration. Wow. Not as flashy as a weapon of devestation but I long suspected it would prove to be better. Cuts through steel golems like they're butter. Awesome.

Pickpocketed a ring of djinni summoning in the graveyard and gremlin scumming in the same location shortly afterwards yielded an amulet of life saving and another two rings of djinni summoning. Those first three wishes were spent on pairs of seven league boots, rings of ice and the concentration skill which complemented my cup born characters many spell books nicely - emphasis on the spell book of frost bolt.

N= crowning before the tower of eternal flames fire immunity - lucky since I had forgotten to replace my first pre crowning gift, the shirt of the saints, with the ancient mummy wrappings and did not obtain a single giant slug corpse despite a lot of time spent in Keethrax's lair (a lizard corpse had already granted shock immunity).

Very little of note otherwise. In the entire game I found only 5 lesser vaults including the one in the puppy cave. 1 in the unremarkable dungeon and 3 below Khelavaster. A fire vault deep in the caverns of chaos proved handy by bringing me up from level 34 to level 50 and the free invisibility that goes with it.

What I learnt from this game:

1) ring of weakness is great for eating giant corpses but rubbish for eating ogre corpses - something I've suspected for a while.

2) I should pick up all boots weighing 25s. A certain artifact has been generated many times in my games but I have yet to find it.

3) Thief level 32 class power is not as great as I had previously thought. I have seen very good results from it but if you're crowned lawful or neutral it becomes too dangerous a skill to employ. My character ended up wearing an amuler of order for most of the end game to try and take him above NC (no non elemental alters below D20 and I've never risked converting one before).

4) Thief level 18 class power makes restocking the casino an incredible bore.

5) Shirt of the saints is very nice. This is the first winning character I've had that didn't exclusively wear the ancient mummy wrappings - didn't wear it all in fact.

6) It's much easier to train shield skills in the early game. When I've found a powerful shield - crystal tower shield, say, in the early game my character reaches shield level 8/9 very quickly. By the time this character discovered a shield with a dv bonus greater than 6 there were very few enemies generated that actually raised the shield skill and most of those were found in predetermined levels such as the elemental temples. He eventually scraped up to shield level 9.

7) I've been playing hurthling thieves for the last month trying to get one past the tower of eternal flames (a death beyond that makes the work of getting a new, similar race/class character up and running too depressing). This race/class combination does not start with healing or herbalism. I've decided herbalism is the better choice. Healing is of little use in the second half of the game. By then a character has enough health points and useful equipment to both survive tough encounters and replenish health through other means. My early game deaths (and I played a lot of hurthling thieves in the last month) were equally numerous for the herbalism and healing trained characters. Choosing herbalism gives the opportunity to get an early potion of cure coruption, a slim chance of a giant slug corpse early in the game and the chance to pick blessed herbs instead of only cursed ones.

Gagggh!!!Ok, my level 17 gnomish healer had just finished pyramid, has bracers of war(precrown), using spears/shields combo(I go berserk alot), has blessed amulet of rapid healing , and I recover like 10 hp per turn....but that's besides the point. I went to the graveyard, and killed some undead, and I find...an adamantanium ring! So I stupidly rub it and it was uncursed! So I killed some more undead with my new djinni partner and what do I find...another ring of DJINNI SUMMONING?!?!So I immediately go to PC and bless it(it was cursed, :D) and wish for an AoLS.....If only I blessed the first one. I literally found both within 3 turns of each other...

Rub cursed. (?)
How the hell can you rub an item you DON'T EVEN KNOW THE STATUS OF?
Man, carelessness... :P Once I rubbed my cursed djinni ring to get it off me (no uncursing) and thought I could flee. My last thought ever.

Name: Drizzt Race: male Dark Elf Class: Ranger
Eye color: blue Hair color: white Complexion: black
Height: 5'10" Weight: 119 pounds Scars: 4
Age: 176 (grown-up, 37 years of unnatural aging added in)
Star sign: Wolf Birthday: 25/Wolf (day 325 of the year)

YOUR HISTORY:
Your parents are travelling adventurers. They are doing moderately
well but are talented enough to survive.
During your childhood one of your uncles taught you a lot of things
about the history of your people. Your vast knowledge on the legends and
the lore of your people made you very popular with your friends because of
all the exciting stories you knew.
During your youth you had a lot of fun playing with other kids of
your age. You always were a natural leader and the center of interest.
As a young adult you left your home because of trouble with your
parents. They opposed your plans for the future without understanding your
wishes. Thus you decided to live on your own. You wandered through the
country for many years, growing older and wiser and learning many things.
You decided to become a Ranger.

>However, merely being a Ranger was not good enough, he also vowed to follow
>in the footsteps of the legendary Dark Elf Ranger, Drizzt Do'Urden.
>This meant, for young Drizzt (last name unknown) the he would ALWAYS wield
>two weapons when fighting, and he was limited to swords and daggers only.
>He also had to embrace goodness and follow the path of the righteous as
>soon as able (become L as soon as possible and stay that way for the game)
>
>I learned a few things from this experience, first was that detect traps
>is a nice skill, but effect by not having it can be lessened by alertness
>and a full set of keys.
>
>Second thing was that while dual wielding may cause more damage, but the
>high energy cost per attack makes it hard to move through crowds of

MaLaKaI can be female? Never knew that before... Anyway, well done, sounds like it wasn't too easy a challenge. Must have been most difficult early on in the game.

Currently playing a dwarven archer. Found emerald dagger in UD, seven league boots in a place I don't remember.

I thought I was done for after the greater daemon drained my stats into oblivion AND my greater earth elemental (who took out several shopkeepers) turned on me, shortly after Waldenbrook took offense at my unholy aura and the whole of dwarftown got homicidal. It's still going to be dangerous once I return there, what with all the muscular dwarves and stuff.

Level 22, decent stats yet again, currently desperately trying to find an AoLS or a RoDS, or at least a blasted RING OF THE FISH. How come they're suddenly near impossible to find? I want to check on the water dragon's loot! I'm sick of slaying gremlins!

Tell me this one thing: Is Blup's corpse guaranteed to get? And will Shyssiryxius be hostile if I (accidentally, of course) kill her infant without telling her I did it?

I take no responsibilities for my actions anymore. If this blasted game denies my a freaking ring of the fish any longer, I *will* go into a homicidal rage myself. And Terinyo will *SUFFER*.

Hmmm, I personally would just slay terinyo:D

Well, I have my Dark Elven Necro and my Dark Elven Barbarian going for OCG's, even though I've never achieved a normal win, going to be interesting how my first win will be a OCG....but anyways, Necro has level 26 quickling lord skeletal warrior, very nice for a bodyguard when reading in an unsafe place. Barbarian just went down to the SIL, then ID:100 to kill filk just for the heck of it, and now am on ID:100....it takes forever to get through ID without magic map....Is level 50 with 99 strength, dexterity, and toughness high enough for Keriax? I still have around 20 days to do him, I think I'll do quickling tree or bug temple.Necro has to check water dragon and CoC graveyard, level 35 with Far Slayer, Protector, Scorched Spear, crown of lightning, acid immunity, and red dragon scale mail.....so completely immune.

Nevermind, I´m a lawful sucker either way, so I just did ToEF prematurely (Some ****er destroyed my crown of fire!) I am now in possession of a helm of water breathing thanks to that (and the fire orb, too), but sadly, water dragon cave only has scorched spear, but no RoDS or WoWi.

Scorched spear is nice, in my opinion. One handed artifact polearm + immunity, excellent dv with shields. I personally could care less if
there was no treasure in her cave, RCT and exp from killing her is enough incentive for me:D

Another Dwarvish Paladin died in the Water Dragon's Cave. This time to a dragon turtle. I always need some kind of ring. Usually RoI, RoDS for khelly, or RoTC. The blue dragon scale mail I was planning to steal would've been nice too.

Level 38 with my necro, slow monster+water dragon=couple of levels. Satisfied Ratling, got RotHK, did Library, and satisfied old crone. I went to SMC, wished for two AoLS, then wished for Quickling Bard, and Acid Balled them to death, after cheating death twice! I made a new slave, a level 81 quickling lord skeletal warrior! I DEFINITELY do not want to get him pissed off! Do slaves get angry if something like a firetrap goes off?I may just bring him for tough areas, like bug cave, temples, and Keriax....would he stand a chance against Keriax? I have 24 SoCR, though...and it's rapidly depleting.

Why the heck don't necros get that many spellbooks?!?! They get like, 10...I take that it is supposed to make them even with wizards in the aspect that necros can make slaves, cheat death, and wizards are practically all magic.

Necro is level 50, killed Keriax, pathetic weakling, seriously, probably could've killed him earlier......ONE acid ball. Well, I'm on the cat lord level, so it's time to fight. It's day 234, I did the quickling tree for the first time ever. Boy, do they gain exp quick. Will the game give me a higher score if I'm carrying a ton of artifacts when I kill andor drakon? Also, do I have to kill him with the sceptre?I really am going to miss that awesome dv from scorched spear+protector. 224 DV on Coward:D I think I'm going to make a copy of this char before I enter the gate, so I can then do Satanist Challenge, which could literally take hours of time to do, but when I finish, I'll post the char here. I gave him a very appropriate name in my opinion, Sauron.Of course that could just be lame....

I was playing a gnomish healer with a friend... just got to cat lord. Earlier then that he said, "Let's kill a million cats!". He had a million spells, and when he had 200 hp on coward casted a fireball. Cat lord got him to -60... very sad.

Yeah, that's why most of my characters take him down with slaying arrows. He was right next to my char so didn't feel like going off coward to fire it. Wish I'd used wands and such, feel like an idiot. I had 7 PoEH. Even more PoUH, prayers, and etc.
