Hmm, made a hurthling monk, got a wish in PC, SLB's , has gotten another wish, I stupidly wish for rings of invis.....

Got bracers of war for first precrowning, going for second. Fortunately on PC:2 , the ants are on the other side of a river, so they'll be my rock factory.

I'm level 12, level 13 is when you can kick down walls, right?

Right.

>Got bracers of war for first precrowning
You lucky monk.

>so they'll be my rock factory
Remember that thrown rocks never can become slaying. You may find a throwing club of death, but to slay stuff you need sling bullets/arrows/quarrels. So don't grow too attached to the rocks that you cannot convert to other missiles for the endgame. Monks and beastfighters get massive damage barehanded with increased level, but this means you never gain slaying powers in melee.

Typical, really.

I searched and searched for a stupid AoLS. I gathered all sorts of superior equipment through gremlin scumming and dragon robbing, including crown of regeneration, ring of regeneration and knife of endurance. I visited all accessible places on the map except bug temple and minotaur maze but including the rift, looking for that crappy amulet or at least a wish, to no avail.

Hours and hours of searching... In the end, I was Level 25 and had long gotten the Fire Orb, 90 day limit approaching, my patience crumbling, so I simply could not postpone it any longer. I decided, filled with guilt and sadness, to let Khelavaster die.

And on D:17 in a dark elven vault one of the dark elven bastards drops a wand of wishing with two charges.

I'd complain even louder, but that wand of wishing is actually better than having saved Khelly. (I get at least the six SoCRs for three wishes, possibly 12, and I already had the Teleportation spell from the Library)

This, if it does work out, will be my first win with Khelly dead.

Well, monk got another precrown in PC, whirlwind, so I'm not throwing rocks anymore, slinging em.I think I'm going to send in a RFE to TB saying that with Fletchery, you should be able to make Lead sling bullets with rocks(with Fletchery set of course), iron bullets with iron ore, mithril bullets with mithril, etc...would be really nice.Well, killed Druid, he is weak: three rocks from sling=dead. It's day 13, and I've gotten the following stuff done: Saved puppy, killed kranach, gotten through UD/HMV and back, stopping by barbarian along the way, sacced and gotten two precrowns, killed bad people in Holeinthewall(forgetting to get Law skill/marble amulet), killed druid, and made it to dwarftown too. Do you get a higher score if you finish game in shorter period of time? I also just found a book shop, so spells will become available, yes! The library has crappy ones. I only need a couples spells: Burning Hands, Cure Light Wounds(level it up a ton), acid/ice ball, magic missile, teleportation, and frost bolt. I like these spells the most out of all spells, wouldn't miss the rest....

Does the torc have any real use besides ratling fodder? I don't really need it, it sells for practically nothing. Does it give any good things that make it worth wearing?

Nah, get rid of the torc. It sucks major ass.

Also, not point sending in an RFE about fletchery. Fletchery applies to one thing - arrows - since the fletch is a part of an arrow. You don't see them on rocks or bullets.

As to the RFE: how about:Bulletry:D

Well, I found out yesterday that Rehetep can cause sickness. Also, is the ancient mummy wrapping light enough to give me a DV bonus for light armor?

I found a RoDS while doing a lesser vault that was below the book shop, where I fortunately bought two books of burning hands and strength of atlas: undead lesser vault, and I hate the shadows draining strength. I found an opal ring, and never really gave it much thought, as I always ID'd RoDS as ordinary rings. Went to Thrundrarr, and Voila! Ring of Djinn! I guess I'm going to save Khevalaster with the wish, though I would rather wish for toughness, which sucks! Level 13 with 90 HP?I'll pass. For the first time in a long time I've actually been using Garth's training.

Hmm, might not be on for awhile: my Dad(I'm probably the youngest here, 15), has deemed me"obsessed with the mindless nonsense called ADOM"and I'm no longer allowed to play ADOM until I do more important things like practice music......stupid parents....

nOOb-mAsTeR, do you know about training Toughness with morgia roots? You can get it up to 25 that way easily, and there are some clever tricks involving sickness and starvation to go higher than that. Herbalism will make it easier to pick lots and lots of morgia, but IIRC cursed morgia roots are just as good to eat as blessed.

IT SHOULDN'T WORK THAT WAY. You shouldn't be able to get tougher if you have potentially terminal diseases and are starving, especially not if you are both at the same time. You should get weaker! Weaker! IT JUST SHOULDN'T WORK THAT WAY!!!

Not exactly - you train your body to be tough even in those weakened conditions, meaning that when healthy you're actually super-tough in comparison. It's like wearing a giant suit of armour all the time that's hard to move about in, but you get used to it and manage to move normally in it with a lot of practise (or herbal assistance), so that when you take it off you're far more dextrous than you were before.

Okay, so it's a bug, but it's there to be exploited :P

Hehe, noob, I'm younger. Turned 12 last month :-). Anyway, you have herbalism, right? You did druid? Frost bolt is NOWHERE near as good as herbalism. Even if not, get morgia. Get some morgia, much on it, then walk into molochs.

No, I did get herbalism, and morgia, but 25 toughness doesn't cut it for me. I like at least 40 for fighting classes. I agree and disagree with Silfir: Yes you should get weaker when sick(but the game already does this), and you do get stronger when in a harder situation. Ever heard of a wrestling practice before?Sucks when you're sick, but when you're better, you're kicking everyone else's butts since you worked harder before.

I found another wish in graveyard, RoDS.Don't know what to wish for. Either: Strength, Tougness, rings of ice, or gold to get crowned.

I just had a promising drakeling brabarian (random roll) char die. Was going great, even did fire tower before doing anything about Khelly at level 20, but then I just lost it. Got his first corruption - unholy aura. Great. So now I was trapped beneath dwarftown, cuz I didn't want them to get mad at me. Scummed a bit for a wish or amulet of life saving or corruption removal by pickpocketing stuff (had no wand of trap creation) but at last got bored and let Khelly die. Then I get next corruption - stiffened muscles. MAnaged to bypass casino, but of course not able to take any goodies out. I get a few more corruption, and then just - die. To a pack of black unicorns (used up healing and piety on cat lord). It was a quite lucky character in every respect except corruption-wise.

At least got to use tremendous blow against ACW with 330 speed, he went down fast.

That's why I don't like Drakelings: Sure, the heat bonus is nice(provided you know tons of improved fireball, very nice:D), but the fact that even a baby white dragon has the ability to slow you down drastically has it's disadvantages. Now if you could order an ancient white dragon to breathe on you(right when killing a beastly monster), then it might be nice, since the lowest speed is 1.

OT: Does anybody else here live in Northeastern USA? I do, and we got out of school early, and we're probably going to be off the rest of the week: amount of snow predicted: 3 feet, whereas new york has 12 feet.Do any of you Europeans(except Icelanders/Swiss) get any snow ever? I think Deutschland does.

The cold thing for drakelings is rarely a problem. The only factor is that you have to be sure to kill enemies with cold blasts quick and from afar. If you see a white dragon vault then really, just run.

As for snow in Europe, yeah of course we do - there were similar weather problems across the UK last week as in the US at the mo (though not here in Manchester, unfortunately).

Hell yeah, we couldn't move for snow in England end of last week! Almost killed myself in my car because I hit an ice patch at a HUGE 2 miles an hour and slid into the main road! It was crazy, although we did have some awesome snowball fights at work! Shame it only lasted 2 days though!

I used to get out of school if it snowed badly, but then when you hit the real world and start working, bosses aren't so kind and you get your ass kicked if you miss work :(

Well, my Hurthling monk is doing good.Just got first corruption: Poison Hands. Not really all that bad, since I don't wear the elemental gauntlets that much. If I get unholy aura or stiff muscles next, I will use one of my seven SoCR...still haven't used wish. Still have no clue as to what to wish for.(Maybe girdle of giant strength, or rings of ice for ToEF.)

My monk died:(

Was level 18, in water temple, still hadn't used wish, was retrieving rocks(wasn't doing enough in melee to grues so missiles and magic missile were the way to go) in the water and I forgot to go back to shore, and I drowned. I think that I may post it in the untimely deaths section....

New Character: Kauf'non, the Human Bard. Has done puppy cave, kranach, jharod, and reached level 11 and gotten at least level 4 in 5 weapon skills. Plans: Get Hawkslayer at level 25, and have him help for rest of game(arrows are nice). Hopefully I'll find an altar in the UD, want to get precrowned at least once, hopefully some nice weapon...either a polearm, sword, mace, shield, or bow......

This is the first bard that's actually done the first part of the game without dying...this is the first time I've actually seriously tried using humans..(ironic, eh?). They seem very adaptable to anything, and a bard is the same, so what better combo? Also, is there any name for Hawkslayer's companions, I may name myself as one of them.Still need detect traps, I'll do it now since I'm NL. I think that with weaker characters it's very good to work on several areas of expertise, because if you lose what you're dependant on, you're dead. For example, in the Puppy Cave Vault, I found a orcish spear of devastation, admantanium mace, and a long bow of accuracy. I always keep backup weapons.I also think that some things should be added to ADOM in the future, dunno if you guys think they're good, I just think they'd be nice:
OT:
After win quests: For Ultra endings, chaotics would actually decide whether they became the Ultimate or Ordinary Chaos God by fighting the champion of order.( the champion of order would be the strongest character in the hiscore list of lawful alignment, so you'd have to fight yourself constantly, making Ultra's harder each time.)

Now apply the same things in parentheses above with Lawful Endings, instead, Andor Drakon would be the strongest chaotic char in hiscore. This would of course require much more memory.

And I think that the Volcano should be added, and should be optional quest for gate closers.

Hey, I'm going to barge into this thread without reading any other posts, just to share a couple things about my current character: a gray elven mindcrafter. I'm selfish like that.

I did something which I haven't done in a long time - got a second precrowning. I won't do that again for a long time, either; I forgot how drudgingly boring it can be. I can tolerate two precrownings on PC:5, but it takes tons of luck to get an altar there. The altar I used was on UD:6. Besides, my first precrowning (Protector) was a bit more helpful than my second (jet-black glaive). Somehow I can easily smith/gremlin scum for hours, but this just rubs me the wrong way.

Here's something weird that's been happening with my character: After exploring all the Terinyo-area caves, and all of the CoC until the divide between DH and AF, I had found roughly 15 studded leather armors, and only two metal bodies - a bad iron chainmail and iron ringmail. Just before entering the pyramid I got an iron platemail in the big room, but the plate's [-4, +7] still wasn't much better than the [+2, +3] studded leather armor I was using. Now I'm using the ancient mummy wrapping. This could be the first time that the AMW is my best DV/PV combination when I first get it. (And, I found another studded body in the pyramid. Sheesh.)
The following is a real Adom message:

The homunculus hits you. You suddenly fall asleep! Do you want to continue to read the spellbook of Calm Monster? [y/N]

My Human Bard just found a girdle of giant strength in an undead vault under D-town. He's level 15, going to try to get at least one precrown before pyramid/graveyard. I have a SoFS,going to use it in Dwarven Halls, hopefully it's something good. Bards' companions/pets NEVER betray them, right? I don't want any companions getting hit by a trap and going crazy on me...

Went to HMV, then into UD, and just got a wish and telectrl.AoLS in pack, going to do vaults in UD, then graveyard, turning neutral by graves/corpses, so I can get 4 SoCR from Mystic. Found spellbook of Teleportation,so I'll get the one from HMV too. Can't wait till I get Hawkslayer, I am going to make him the strongest companion EVER.

Just did Nonnak, piece of cake, I have 91 DV on coward with orcish spear of devastation and large crystal shield.(50some on normal)

Going to sell all stuff I really don't need, so I can train learning really high so I get a lot of castings from level 18 class power. Ideal spells:
Magic Missile, Acid Ball,Cure*Blank*Wounds, and Teleport/Strength of Atlas.

I plan on using three artifacts for sure the whole game: Big Punch,Rune Covered Trident, and Sword of Nonnak. I like variety for bards, as I've stated before. I currently have a strength of 34 with GoGS.I found a ring of doom, all I need is a ring of weakness to get my strength good. After looking at manual, sounds like Bards IMHO have the most potential to be the Ultimate PC, since they get good in everything(Note: In my opinion, ultimate chars don't rely on wishes like Archmages)
I got 4 SoCR from Mystic, so after I give AoLS to Khelly, I'll have 11, making me good for rest of game, considering bug temple too, and how it's only day 20.May Onn bless the Seven League Boots:D

I got Improved Fireball, Slow Monster and can't remember the other spells. So I currently only have 1 offensive spell with a decent amount of castings. I have sword of nonnak, but considering how I found an eternium spear, eternium scimitar, and an eternium tower shield, I think I'll stick with non-artifact. As soon as I find some good dragon scale mail(Darkforge most likely), I'll take the time to mine and use the crystals of knowledge in prep for library, and smith up equipment. I have 130 castings of lightning ball, and I hardly get any exp from steel golems when slowed. I thought that humans were fast learners...

Went to D-Town, wished for Greater Moloch , killed it while slowed(I'm level 23:D), with demon slaying ammo, went to level 26. Went to Hawkslayer, and he put on a cloak of invis, but he's not invisible! What the F***!!!I also gave him sword of nonnak, bracers of war, elemental gauntlets, and boots of divine messenger. Unfortunately, on ID40, when I got him to Highly Experienced , the game crashed:XNow I have to retrain him....

I used a different stategdy this time for training Hawkslayer: Gremlins:D I got tons of potions of water and PoEx after about 7 days while wearing SLB's and he was Very Experienced, so I decided to go for wish engine, even though it would probably fail. Went to D:8(credit to Soirana:D), got 8RoDS!Wished for more PoEx/Water and got an Eternium Plate Mail of Power,[+3,+13], more strength, toughness, and mana.I also got rings of ice. Unfortunately only 2 more PoEx left and no wishes so that was nice.

Did fire temple, ice ball works wonders there. Combined with slow monster, I gained 2 levels. I'm level 28, day 50, so Hawkslayer and I are going to dive through CoC pretty fast.He does 270 damage sometimes in one hit to enemies, he's a beast.I don't have a stethoscope, so I can't examine his DV, to see whether he could be good enough to help with bug temple. If I want quick exp, I could try to take on Blup's mom, I have 13 arrows of dragon slaying.....nice exp if I do manage it, certain death if I don't.

I'm still angry that Hawkslayer isn't invisible...stupid glitch. Would make him virtually invincible.

Revived Wish Engine, Gremlin Cave. Got Hawkslayer's speed up to 200 something, now he can keep up with me while I wear SLB's. Wished for an eternium golem, and he killed it. Wished for a moloch, he killed it. He's only level 29 too, while I'm still level 28...so the student has surpassed the master. I've spent over a hundred wishes on "wicked eternium spear", and the best I've gotten is a masterwork eternium spear of penetration...I want a poisoned eternium spear of penetration/devastation. If I was a weaponsmith, I would have A LOT of ingots.

I'm starting to think that the library isn't worth it, since I can just wish for any spellbook I want...though I have limited myself to getting my stats via wishing to 50 each.I want some challenge, though I seem to be very lucky and find a lot of PoEx/Rings. Of course this char could be like Lawf'okong and die for the stupidest reason possible.....

Revived wish engine, found WoW in casino. Hawkslayer has gotten to extemely experienced due to a Greater Vault of karmics. Got executor, crown of leadership, and protector:D I just got RotMC, easy with bards. I just made it to the earth temple, I always skip Air temple, I HATE that temple. Though I just found a threatening room of GM's.....I think I'm going to go from level 33 to 50, even while sharing exp. I'll probably use last wishes on demonslaying ammo.

now i am playing hurtling necromancer who made some oaths: never wield shield, don't use weapons in melee and don't use any kind of comat magic - neither spells, nore offensive alchemy, wands, crystals etc.

thought should be chalenging but apperared not too much.

i basicaly got nonstop stream of spellbooks ending in nearly all noncombat spells. greater identify and wish are still missing:)
early precrown with whirlwind.
picked ironfist out of some zombie's pockets.

obviously DV is a problem so i'm looking forward to play with smithing. and i guess i'll have to use bridge building.
