Alertness is IMHO the key skill for a dark elf. Not sure if healing is purely for elfs, or mages, but it is also very useful.
Dark Elves are wimps at the start, but if you play carefully, and its not hard with the guaranteed starting bolt spell, then only traps can kill you, and even they can be managed after lvl 5.
Poison resistance comes easily with spider corpses as previously mentioned.
Alertness cannot be dismissed easily as a talent, yes it might not prove useful early on, but when you face the big guys later, you are almost impossible to hit with spells.
Basically elves are wizards, all other races are merely trying to break into the club.
The only reason for playing a trollish Wizard is to get through to level 10. After that, they have nothing to offer. When you try to get to lvl45, trolls are a pain.
Other races fly up in levels, but leveling up isnt an issue either. Bolt spells + the bug wilderness gets you to lvl 18 quickly if needed.
If you stall at lvl 30, zap the eternal guardian, he's good for at least 2 levels, 4 if you kill his replacement as well. Also, with teleport and bolt spells, the EG will fall without ever getting close to you.
In both of my wins, including my ultra, my strenght has never got above 30, it just isnt needed. LE, Wi, Ma, To are all that are required.

looks like we see same thing from diferent angle.

normally wizard should blow big guys up before having/not having allertness starts too matter.
in wost case they have alchemy and recipe for blindness is from easy ingridients. i don't any monster casting spells while blind.

in general most of my chars dies in early game. after some point thay chances to vanish shrinks rapidly. the only stat which realy matters early is toughness.

so elven wizards in my opinion have not so good start just to get overkill later. mages with 99 mana is sweet but sort of overkill.

so to have max chances with wizard i need some bones and not too saccrifice too much for geting them. trolls are out of question. orcs have too low willpower and mana plus age problems. drakes are fine, but have race specific problems. not too big but i wouldn't recommend them for someone seeking his first win.

p.s. dark elfs in general are not a whimps. rangers and archers can utilize find weakness and high dexterity very well spending the very begining under elven mithril.

p.s. all wizards get healing.
all chars get poison resist from spiders.

Yeah, I agree soirana. I just had a dark elven barbarian crowned with vanquisher(yay!), and got all the way to level 30...but died to....a greater titan. I really should've found more slaying ammo....

As Jules stated, Alertness cannot be overlooked. Too many times I've got a wizard (without Alertness) to the ToEF and faced the AKW, only to die to a bolt spell. DE Wizard with alertness at 100......problem eliminated (mostly anyway!)

you are right in general.

except i don't allow to cast him energy rays more then twice. stun ray, wand of paralyzation, potion of blindness... keeping buffer of fire daemons works too.

i haven't died in ToEF for ages. becouse i don't give him any chance. alertness at 100 still gives small but a chance. potion of blindness doesn't.

AKW often shrugs off stun rays for me. Potions of blindness are the best method. They seem to work against ranged attackers as well, like titans, for they won't shoot then. But even better: arrows of darkness. If you can find a whole pack, you don't need to worry about lots of things since you can shoot those further.

iirc, ppotions can be shooted with slings at least tricky way.

so you can abuse skill in slings + sling of long shot.

arrows of darknes doesn't work 100 procent.

doesn't efficiency in stun ray increase chances to hit?

Stun is willpower dependent, so you are best off by putting on Sword of Nonnak, amulet of perseverance, orb, then it rarely misses.

I personally never knew that potions could be shot with slings, I never use slings due to the fact that there's no slaying rocks, at least that I've found. I guess the fact that rocks are very plentiful makes up for their prefix/suffix lackingness....(I dunno if lackingness is even a word...)

Hmm, my current char,a dark elven barb, is level 13, and the prices at dwarftown SUCK!!!!If I let the greater demon slay the priest, can I convert the altar to chaotic? Also, are there any monsters(demented ratling?) that are chaotic and would sacrifice me if I convert the altar? Also, what are the requirements for a regular chaos god ending? I think this char has the potential provided I get vanquisher....also,if I get a wish, would it be worth getting courage or food preservation before AoLS? I'm tired of getting surrounded and I want to get quickling corpses, claw bug corpses, etc.

there are no slaying rocks but sling bullets of daemon slaying are possibility.

Vanquisher isn't the be all and end all remember.

I'd get the AoLS straight off, at least then you know you've got it stored away.

As for the shop prices, heh....yeah it sucks. But you get used to it after a while.

Hmmm, I got 4 wishes via PoEx in DH:1, wished for Courage, Food Preservation, Gold, and Gold. Got precrowned and Crowned, Nature's Companion(It's ok), acid immunity, poison hands, astral planes, thorns, and .......(drum roll) VANQUISHER!I'm currently unstoppable since I found blink dog corpse, teleportation is nice. I got rid of poison hands and thorns with HMV SoCR via Wand of Destruction....thinking about restocking ring shop in UD so I can get another wish, possibly for PoEx or AoLS....corruption could be bad for an aspiring Chaos God....though unfortunately my first kill was a kobold. So I have three immunities, acid, shock, and fire, and have the mummy wrapping now. So I'm gonna do graveyard, gremlin cave, TotHK, CoC graveyard, Darkforge, ToEF, in that order. I miss the DV from shields though, my DV is like 25 and my PV is 23....which sucks in my opinion. I have level 10 in swords, 6 in Two Handed, 8 in Crossbows, taking your guys advice for missile weapons, helps out alot.

Ok,so I need sceptre, crown, and medal? Medal is from Gaab'bay, crown is in stone circle, and I have to satisfy the ratling. So what day do I enter the stone circle? I currently have the following artifacts: Scorched spear, Vanquisher, robes of resistance, fine leather armor, caladriel, elemental gauntlets, sword of nonnak,si,the ankh, and ancient mummy wrapping. What artifacts should I give the ratling?I don't know if I can even give the si. Also, is the cat lord a humanoid NPC? if so, I'll kill him since I've already killed cats. Thanks for help so far.

You can't give the si to the ratling sadly, that'd be way to easy.

Get rid of the phial, the spear, the iron crown (if you go fetch it)the mummy wrappings (you should have some other decent armour) and the fine leather armour. I'd keep the RoR personally.

You enter the circle during Darknight.

cat lord is humanoid.

ratling doesn't take si. usual i feed him with some of these: big punch, ring of high kings (after passing eternal guardian), moon sickle (after creating enough PoRC), crown of science, phial of caladriel. all of these are sort of guaranteed:)
and some rextra random crap from precrownings, casino, vault.

stone circle is enterable on darknight. each 30days from start. ussually after 23.00. 23.30-24.00 works very fine for me i time in with 7lb.

and don't hurry on that purple wyrm. runing a and berserking with vanquisher is risky, at least. imho, he is worser when ACW except you can leave untill you are lv50 and so on...

i'd recomend puting potion of blindness in missile slot, boosting speed, entering inner part via controled teleportation, immediately blinding wyrm and finishing him with draon/regualr slaying missiles.
he can couse masive coruptions, if not death.

Well, I'm currently in no rush: I started a wish engine and got my strength to 52, and 17 SoCR, and 4 PoCC. I got bored after that and am carrying 5 RoDS for emergencies. I found a crown of regen and bracers of regen in DH, I heal really fast. I think this char can beat drakon.....am going to finish dwarf quests, steal from water dragon, then do Darkforge, ToEF, hand in artifacts and kill boar.

Well, didn't kill or steal from water dragon. killed terinyo, got RotHK, wished for scrolls of protection/defense, got my overall DV/PV to 56/30 at normal, dealing 64 to hit, which is pretty nice. I satisfied Gaab'bay, the ratling, am level 19, waiting till level 25 to kill Shysiriixuis(can't spell it), and Keriax, and AKW....Dragon killing. Once I get my DV to 100 I'll go do the Bug Temple, and hopefully have proper corruptions for quickling tree.
Question: In guide, it says Keriax has a ranged corruption attack. Can anyone specify on his attacks/defenses?

He shoots a corrupting bolt, but only in straight lines, so if your going to shoot him down, do it from an angle where he cant zap you.
Also, he got a good confusion attack, so youll want something to negate that.
Dont drink from the pool either :p

Yeah, Keriax is a real bugger for confusing - I'd suggest two blessed rings/helm of the clear mind, or something similar. Be careful with him, and even more so with the water dragon. I'd suggest leaving off the bug temple till much later.

Level 34, killed cat lord, 8 eternal guardians, and all of the casino........day 61 still, lol, gotta love high speed+SLB's....

Hopefully I get some greater vaults, bracers of war would be nice...Though I'm at D:40 and no Greater Vaults......wearing Javelin of Doom before going downstairs.

Have both steel artifacts, got medal of chaos, gonna do ID after orbs and blue dragon caves.....might as well do filk quest too, only 90 kobolds killed, just so I can kill emperor moloch and add that to my kill list. I think I'm going to make this part of that challenge where you try to kill every monster possible. It'd be easy since I have a partial wish engine....

Greater vaults are preset, so that javelin of doom will do you no good (though it might increase the chances of lesser vaults). Remember to cast slow monster on yourself before delivering the killing blow - can double your xp. If you dive into the ID then you might find tension or threat rooms of greater molochs around level 45-50 - handy for xp. Oh, and the grues on D48 give good xp too. And AKW if you take him out.

Started a Dark Elven Necro on other computer, bro was playing ADOM on other.....trained till level 10 in ID, was getting bored, went to CoC(just got healing), sacced at chaotic altar, low on food, for some reason went to gremlin cave, then to TotHK, got a surge of power....killed green slime for Scorched Spear.Nice, since I'm born in starsign for Raven, so RCT is an option early.....I'm starting to like Dark Elves, nice to be recklessly chaotic:D

Dark Elven Necro Level 18, killed three shopkeepers in UD, lacking funds, since nobody buys stuff off me for reasonable prices, so solution:Murder:DLeggot is a dwarf too, unfortunately.....Have three potions of exchange, going to attempt wish engine in DH when I go there.....only thing I can complain really about is constantly being strained, strength is only 19....I can deal with 30...but 19!?!?I personally like to carry items of great value, or a prefix and suffix, like wicked2handerswordofdevastation....found it in shop of a shopkeeper I killed. It was a little too expensive for my tastes, so.....:D

I've gone the entire game so far without slaves, no real powerful corpses generated. I want to go to quickling tree as quickly as possible to get quickling king slave. How fast are quickling king slaves?I might have a king and queen as slaves, nice to have two.
