I'm on level 4 of the puppy cave harvesting herbs and I just got two corruptions and have no idea why.

I have the following artifacts:
Ring of immunity
AMulet Preserver
Wyrmlance
ancient mummy wrapping

It's day 42.

I just ID'd all my inventory and I don't see any of the following:
The Black Tome of Alsophocus
The Amulet of Raw Steel
The Shield of Raw Steel
The Spear of Raw Steel
The Boots of Great Speed
The Sceptre of Chaos
The Medal of Chaos
The Crown of Chaos
(Just normal ID, no great ID)

I don't have any orbs and nothing was attacking me.

I'm completely baffled!!! Please advise.

Did you spill a potion of raw chaos while dipping an item in it?

Did you read a cursed scroll of chaos resistance?

Did these corruptions happen RIGHT after each other?

Because the only way I know of getting 2 corruptions within the same turn is besides PoRC, is if you get crowned chaotic.

No to all three of those questions.

The corruption rate is huge though. They happened close together.

*corruption*
w5 harvest
w5 harvest
w5 harvest
w5 harvest
w5 harvest
*corruption*

Something like that.

I am L, and have been pre-crowned three times.

Basically, I've harvested 800+ stommas in this dungeon level. But I thought it was corruption free and have no idea why I am getting corruptions. Never seen anything like this.

Figured it out.

Picked up a corrupting pick axe from the pyramid and had it in my tool slot. Then started harvesting

*Ouch*

Still a very promissing game with all the artifacts. Just got teleportatin and corrupted tissue.

well, that would explain it. Boy, 800+ stomafillia....I don't even know how to use the herb patterns to my advantage, too impatient to learn/use.

There isn't much to learn. Here is the very basics.

1: Use 2x2 squares, if one bush dies no big deal, and herbs will regenerate.

2: These are useless patters despite being stable.

."...."...."..
".".."."..".".
".".."."..."..
."..."."......
......".......

The rule for herbs creation/destruction are:

1. a herb bush will remain if it 2 or 3 neighbors
2. a herb bush will be created or regenerate if it has 3 neighbors
3. a herb bush dies if it has 1 neighbor or 4+ neighbors.

therefore:

....
."".
..".
....

will grow into

....
."".
."".
....

a 2x2 herb square

If you start with healing get herbalism. Take advantage of herbs. Stomafillia fills stomach. Morgia when eaten four at a time will train Wi and To. If the stats are at potential maximum use eight. Eight may be required from 23+ despite potential maximum not being a problem. Curia Mannox cures sickness. All of these are when eaten. 'U'se two Mosses of Marilon to train Dx. 'U'se four if the stat is at potentiall maximum. Stomafillia, Mosses of Marilon, and Curia Mannox must not be cursed when eaten or used.

actually i do use simulator of big room. it is possible to make walls and herbs in desirable places and to wind up cyccles forward.

helps a lot. just becouse i am to dumb to calculate certain paterns manually.

If you can make it, this shape:
"..
"""
.".

is a very good start. It will grow, grow, and grow. Might need some strategic harvesting. It is very easy to make too, if you go from a normal 2*2 square:
""..
""..
....

add one bush with holy water:
""..
""."
....

wait for one regrowth:
""".
""".
....

harvest two bushes:
."..
""".
....

wait for one regrowth:
""".
""".
."..

and harvest your last two bushes to make the t:
"...
""".
."..

Now watch the magic. Do this if you happen to get only one or two 2*2 in big room (has happened, when I've been held up by monsters before I could control bushes)

Stable patterns are not useless, leave them in place, later in the game you most likely have enough holy water to make one bush and save the pattern.

Herbalism is very good because it allows you to ID any bush. If it is a Strong bush (not gonna make any George W. jokes here) you can harvest at least once, so you can plan where to set up bushes depending on which type of herb you need.

Still, doing some trimming in big room is usually enough for me. I also pacify it almost every game I play. Either by door creation wands or digging, or a combination.

They are useless until you change them. Also use

[ p r e] (without spaces)

tags if you are going to demonstrate herb growth PLEASE. It is much easier to read. See the formating help at the bottom left for details. If you want to simulate herb growth find a Conway's Game of Life Simulator like gtklife.

Hey, I fixxed it! Yes much better.

I did try the conway's simulator, and this piece:
"..
"""
.".

really is good for filling up the big room. Just put it near the middle, and start controlling it after about 30 growths (it might hit walls and die out in the big room).

One great way to take advantage of stable/useless pattern #1:
."..
".".
".".
."..
....

is add a bush down there:
."..
".".
".".
."..
..."

which will really bloom out the pattern.

See for yourselves in Game of Life

Still, give me a supply of the stat-herbs and I'm fine. At least if I get a form of healing. And curaria/rose. And the stom's. So I'm usually happy with what I get.

Well, I've always been fine in game without stomafillia, and I usually find enough random bushes to get 50+blessed spenseweed and 25 in Dex,Wi, and To.

Precisely.
I can live without stomofillia as long as I can buy cooked lizards, but I'm learning to love stomachemptia more and more.
"They say that controlled starvation can be a real boon".
"They also say that sickness is useful at times".

..oh no Im getting off-thread. "Why am I getting corrupted? Because you planted the wrong herbs."

I'm mildly curious as to why 800 stomofillia though. Last game I did 170, and that was enough for two precrowns and one regular crowning right away. Gets boring real fast too. I can't imagine using more than 50 blessed stomo for food in a normal game either...

yeah, 20 blessed stomafillia lasted a trollish wizard of mine with around 3-5 artifacts on, corpses are always main source of food with food preservation for me.

Did three pre-crowns that game.

Wanted to make sure on the third one, was entering the Pyramid at 16, dinging 17 and then praying for my third pre-crown.
