The crown of science thing happened to me too. It seems you get a large lawful boost for saccing it while neutral... Would have to be tested.
You drop the golden ball.
You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.

This stuff should definitely be in the Guidebook.

I've been trying to do the Ironman challenge but it's pretty tough. What race/class would you guys pick? I've tried spellcasters that start with Frost Bolt, because rivers are pretty common, but I usually loose them to trapped doors before ID10.

What about the Eternium challenge?

About eternium nan:
"The first example was completed by Barry Kearns who reported it November 18th, 2006. It was done with a dwarven bard (for the cave bear companion) who was born under the Raven birthsign with pick pockets and food preservation. The experience level of the PC was deliberately kept at a minimum so the cave bear was able to kill enemies until the PC accumulated enough ingredients to start a wish engine via the "gremlin bomb" technique. It has since been completed without a pet using similar strategy." - http://andywlms.com/adom/challenge.html

I'm doing the same thing (almost):
Lv3 Gray Elven bard (for the fairy dragon, he's unstoppable. The teleporting other monsters ability is annoying, though. Right in the middle of the SMC a chaotic altar was generated, converted it to Neutral and now I'm at very close status. I'll keep saccing for a while, then I'll level up to lv8. Got to find a way of getting to N- or N+, though.
This guy has Concentration, Dodge, Literacy and Pick Pockets, the other are crap. I'm pretty sure he'll die in the next 10 min, let's see.

I've tried IronMan quite a few times - it's very hard, but it teaches you to play extremely carefully, and so helped me get my first win. Gnomes are the best race I think, because they level up fastest and have pickpocketing (handy for extra items). What class is another matter... I've mostly tried elementalists and priests. The former are good because they have lots of offensive magic. The latter are great for detect item status, and a decent number of spellbooks. Priests also get a holy symbol which can be used to restore piety.

The best tool I've found to help with the challenge is darkness. So many creatures can't fight in it, including Malakai himself. The furthest I've gotten down though had been around ID30 (my high score list is filled with deaths around that level). It gets incredibly hard later on since the monsters are much higher level than yourself, and more of them become resistant to your attacks. Perhaps it might be worth trying a different race some time for extra toughness...

Another Q:
I'm in the Library, with a human wizard. It's written in the Guidebook that if I have 100 Stealth and remain silent for 2k turns, I will be give the Weird Tome. Now how long is 2k turns? Also, I entered the Library with 85 Stealth, killed some monsters and leveled up. Increased my Stealth to 100 and went out then in again. Will I be able to get the Tome if I wait 2k turns now?

Ok, I read all my books except Wish, and still no Tome. I got 5 corruptions, and decided to gtfo. I only had 1 SoCR, and I used that to remove Unholy Aura. I did the ToEF with a little bit of difficulty, and killed the greater black unicorn. Since I had 5 corruptions again, I had no choice but accept the white unicorn's offer to remove my corruptions :(
I'm still looking for an AoLS, and it's day 103 already. I looted Blup's mum cave, I even tried killing her for xp, but ran away after she left me with 2 HP...
What's the best place to create a gremlin bomb in order to get RoDS or SoCR or AoLS?

you can check game turn counter. press ":t" untill speed counter in right bottom corner becomes move counter (looks like "M: x").

Thanks, I'll try going down the rift again soon. So where's the best place to make a gremlin bomb? I've drained every pool, went to every place except Bug Temple and no Wish.

Edit: I went to the Library again, some precious equipment was destroyed on the way. I spent 2.3k turns, and when I talk to the Librarian he says only Pssst!

technically best place is probably d8. since pickpockets push on light items with danger level<=8.

practically i'd go for upper part of dwarven graveyard. no corruption good drops. i mean you can get stuff you need without seeing wish which is just fine.

Thanks for the tips, I'll have to try that. I let Khelly die since I'm in a time crisis. I found a second pair of 7LB's, but no wishes yet. Any wish I'll get will have to go on SoCR. Still, this char is pretty strong, 43 St with Executor and Fire Orb, 30 Le, 27 Wi, 32 Dx, 36 To, and 43 Ma. I found the Robes of Resistance in a vault in the ToEF, and I'm using Executor. Water Temple should be easy, and hopefully I'll get to the Casino and find a wish there. Is it a good idea to try to make a wish engine in the Casino? I have no potions of exchange, but I'll probably pick pocket a few until then.

I'm lv 31 with 393 HP and 503 PP :) Sweet wizard, too bad I don't have any means to cure corruption.

wish engine should be run in danger level 8 area. it gives better chances.

speaking about coruption: you might always go on black unicorn hunt in wilderness (unless you are crowned chaotic). it takes time and is boring, but is really guaranteed way.

Where exactly do I find them? I found a couple, but in swampy areas, and they seem to never leave a corpse :(
Anyway, I'm level 41 now, on D39 awaiting my 5th corruption. I found Protector and BoW in a greater giant vault, this guy is awesome. I just hope to find some means of corruptions removal soon, I don't think I'll survive the two remaining temples, BDC and D50.

anywhere. i prefer plains near entrance to CoC.
best chances for getting corpse is using hunting boiw+hunting arrows and 100percent food preservation.
with all that chances are still at 20procent at best. told you -- boring...

Ouch, nasty death Mewto, and seemed like quite a good char too. You might've been fine for corruption with the SoCRs from bug temple. Why did you get the white unicorn reward when you only had 5 corruptions though? Did you have something nasty with no other way to remove it?

Yes, I had the "You rage" corruption, the poison hands, your skin is covered in tough scales, your muscles have stiffened.

The nasty ones were the stiff muscles and the poison hands, I accidentally ate my cooked lizards without thick gloves, and all of them got cursed. I was afraid that it won't be long before I drink a potion without the gloves, and without my PoCC...
Besides, I wanted to wear the elemental gauntlets, since they halve corruption.
This char was amazing, almost every stat close to 40 or over... now that I think about it, even those two PoCC I had from the guardians and the other two corpses could be enough... I loved playing him, everything seemed so new after the CoC Graveyard :)

Have any of you a strategy to deal with "Neo" greater molochs? I teleported 7 spaces back, I think, and I thought it was enough... I was wrong.

Elemental gauntlets do not halve corruption. They halve corruption when USING THE ORBS. I sure hope you weren't using the orbs in your state.

Stiff muscles are countered somewhat by seven leagues, against poison hands I usually gather every pair of thick gauntlets I find. With only 5 corruptions, I'd consider white unicorn reward a serious waste.

"Neo" Greater Molochs? How about the Get The Fuck Off From That Level Strategy? Not all monsters are meant to be fought, and certainly not bugged killing machines.

Well I thought that the elemental gauntlets halved all corruption. Next time I get Ironfist, I'll use it :( And no, I've never used the Orbs. I had every spell in the game except Wish, and I regularly sacced 1 mil gold to my deity, just in case I needed quick healing.

I did have enough think gloves, but a trap might burn them and I'd probably forget to put on a new pair. And I was thinking that the elemental gauntlets halved all corruption...
I still think using the reward was a good idea, I didn't want to go all the way from D40 to the wilderness again, even with Teleport.

It was the first time I met an uber greater moloch, so I didn't know how tough he was. I really though that I could kill him. After he put on the hulking armor, he zoomed next to me in one step and had 5 shots or so at me. After his attacks were over, I still had about 250HP, not bad considering that he had at least 5 attacks. That's why I thought maybe I could kill him from a distance (and I still think I could, I just don't know how far I must tele).
I think every monster is meant to be killed, except GM's with hulking armors, of course. I'm pretty sure TB didn't make that bug on purpose.

Finally got a char far enough to revive this thread with some new nooby questions :)

Pavarotti L., the lv 22 dwarven merchant is getting
ready to do the Fire Temple. My question is, how do weak fighting classes survive in there? I've got 7LB's, a RoI and a mithril flail of penetration (+0, 2d4+7) which I've been using for quite some time now (lv 11 in maces) because my crowning gift sucked big time (Trusted One). I've got good DV and excellent PV: 54/43 on Normal tactics.

Well, as for weak fighting classes, just do what you can to improve your fighting skills. The weapon is nice, and your PV is nice as well so you might survive, but you might want to acquire Invisibility. Or just go up against a few monsters in the first levels of the ToEF: if you can defeat a fire giant, or even better, a fire demon/grue without (nearly) dying, then you can give it a try.

I'd be extra careful with the Ancient Chaos Wyrm, though; do you have wands of stunning and, preferably, wands of cold? These can help tremendously.

^Wands of cold aren't more effective than any other elemental wand from my experience.

Also, to Mewto again, do you have good missile skills, or more like, any decent missile skills? (You really should have trained a bit at this point...) A dragon slayer ammo hunt might also help, though they are rare and usually tend to appear not in packs but alone... do this as a last resort and if you have TH.
