You benefit in lots of extra ways with pools, more so than gremlins I would think. I usually don't find more than five stat potions while gremlin-scumming (including PoGA). Most of what you get is ordinary stuff. Though potions of water are a real bonus.

The main reason why I do Kranach quest and don't go through UD is this:if my freakin' char can't kill ant warriors by level 10 easily(2 chars have died to them), so then how can they be expected to make it through the SMC, then UD? I also do the kranach quest for tons of arrows, bows, and it looks good on the accomplishments. Besides, I'd take too much time for my liking in UD, but my current paladin may do just that, and go through UD. First thing I find when I enter druid dungeon, lawful altar!!!So I'm going to get one precrown, not do druid right away(so as to not generate extra artifact, that can wait),go to SMC+UD if I have invis, teleport control+magic mapping, or just know where stairs are. Otherwise I'll just attempt Puppy Cave for exp if I get a good weapon, protector, or BoW, since critical hits and regen are very useful.I'll only gremlin scum if I don't find a scroll of danger in library. I'm not going to scum casino in this one, besides, if I'm going to finish chaotic stuff early, I'm not going to be down there by then.

Well, I got 2 AWESOME precrowns so far with the current char above last night: I found the lawful altar on druid floor 1, found 2 more gray altars along the way down.

I found an altar on PC:1, so I could sacrifice ants and killed them for exp, so I could get another precrown. I found a nice adamantanium girdle on PC:6,so finally some uppper metals.

So, the precrowns:Protector at level 8, and Hammerhead at level 11:D

I might go for another precrown, I'm going to go through SMC and UD to get exp, so I can get another precrown maybe, before I kill Keethrax. I've decided that I'm going to use Sword of Nonnak, seeing how I have level 9 in swords already. This may be the char to win!!!

Darren Grey:
1) Gremlin scumming is easier to set up than you think. All you need is a pick, a couple blankets, a fluff ball and a potion of water.
2) Gremlin scumming isn't as cheap as you think. There's a good chance of getting a wish and the necessary items for ultra endings, but you won't get lots of anything. You might get a SoCR, you might get a couple PoGA if you're lucky, maybe a few potions of stats. If you're really lucky, you might steal Soaker! Fantastic.

The benefit of gremlin scumming is really that you just get more of everything. It's very nice to stock up on potions of water, get some useful (but not particularly rare) rings and equipment, etc. I find it enjoyable because I like getting loot. It feels good.

I actually never drink from pools. I usually have good intrinsics and don't want to get them all over again.

You can get the invisibility and see invis intrinsics from eating blessed invisible stalker corpses.

Only bad thing about pools is that I seem to always get teleportitis, and never loose it. A bit of a bother with book-readers. But then again, it could save my life I guess.

Stun resistance, para, death, petri are unique. Perm invi is unique (but sometimes a bit bothersome). Seeinvis is very hard to get outside pools. I only care about these ones, all other intrinsics I can easily get back. So I stop drinking when I have 3-4 of the big ones.

Then I hunt for spiders, fire lizards, lightning lizards, white dragons, and blink dogs. And an altar :).

In my opinion, stun resistant can really be a life saver if you don't want to pray.

Frodomin, the hurthling paladin is doing quite well, except for the fact that it is day 43, and he 's level 14:( He has just gotten through SMC/UD/HMV, and did three vaults, one was mixed, which hardly gave any items unfortunately, just alot of exp from harder monsters. I am currently using an adamantanium scimitar, protector, mithril chain mail, adamant. girdle, cloak of inivs, protector, two blessed rings of damage, and a long bow with arrows, and hammerhead, for the extra To points that I desperately need, because with both To+ artifacts, I still only have 66 HP!!!:(
Despite this, he has still had some success. I found a ring shop, and on that level, there are several blink dogs, which I will probably soon kill upon my return from dwarftown to lower alignment and get tele control. I got 2 rings of ice from shop, you guys were right about hurthlings and good prices. I'm hoping that a RoDS gets generated there, an AoLS would be very nice, though the rings of ice are a nice comfort to know that the ToEF will not have any equipment destruction(hopefully). I believe that I will not go for a third precrowning, it will just take too much time.So I'm headed for keethrax, then Dwarftown to generate lawful altar, then go do Pyramid by then, then get me some blink dog corpses, learn pick-pocketing, practice that on graveyard, while eating corpses by wights and wraiths.Get detect traps next then.

Currently these artifacts are on my ratling list:phial of caladriel, big punch, black torc, ankh(i'm not going to use pools, and I don't use it hardly ever anyways, and maybe get rune axe so I get that done quick. Also crown of science, after getting skull. Then while chaotic, do quests for crone, scum ring shop for RoDS if none by this point, so I get ?ofDanger. After that, and get amulet of chaos, put it in glade, finish any training with yergius, then sac at altar at keethrax cave, get to LN, then give puppy corpse, kill hotzy+niest, kill master thief, and make a fat beggar:D Get crowned(should have plenty of cash after selling Darkforge crap), and if a sword, use sword instead of sword of nonnak. Go do ToEF(hopefully fire immunity),then library, since spells should prove useful. Do TotHK, dragon's cave, and then dive down through CoC, and if I have 1/10 quickling corruption, do quickling tree, for I remember that speed is absolutely necessary for Andy. The rest is pretty simple, blue dragon caves,I have to kill cat lord:(, and filk+TotRR. Satisfy white unicorn, then dive down, do D:50, and kill Andor Drakon, but I won't unless I absolutely have the easiest time in D:50, since I read that even chars that breezed through D:50 died against andy, and this char isn't like my wish-frenzied necro.

I always make due without pool-specific intrinsics. It's never been a handicap for me, either. I always have items that I can equip for the rare times I encounter a monster that paralyzes, petrifies or casts death ray.

For that matter, I don't think I've ever been hit by a death ray, resisted or not, on any character, out of all my wins and deaths, EVER. I'm not kidding. If some have even been CAST at me, I suppose I dodged them.

Once you have more experience, you'll be surprised how easy it is to disagree with the Guidebook. For example: Andor Drakon is easy. Make sure you have the necessary intrinsics and a light source, and make a set of nicely-smithed items. You won't need them anymore, so drink all your potions of boost stats and speed. Wish for speed if you can. Then, just poke him with the TotRR repeatedly. I usually don't take any damage from him, since I meet these conditions each time. A bigger danger is the extremely rapid corruption, and on a ULE you should be fine.

Ouch on the 66 hp; you're more fragile than a naked raging wizard.

I've been hit by a death ray. Trust me, it's not funny.

No opponent is hard to beat for an archmage or someone who smiths excessively, I suppose... That you will agree that Andor Drakon is among the few opponents that you have to make some preparations for to beat, right?

Andy is easy. \oParalyzation = dead andy. He isn't paralyzation resistant, though you should be. After that just whack him with the TotRR. I did this with a scummed character so I know what I'm talking about even though I don't have an avatar win.

My Dark Elven Necro had a hard time with Andy, since he drains PP, which makes it extremely hard to kill him with spells.

Though I don't think that I'll have a hard time with a lawful char, since I'll have the TotRR, which annoys me, since I won't be able to use my sword and shield. I think that it is slightly annoying that you HAVE to use the TotRR to kill Andy, and even more that the game doesn't really give you any information on the weapon, or as to its background...guess I'll have to write a story for the TotRR on the stories forum;D

Yes, Adom is admittedly short on the story department. Essentially, you have to take every snippet of lore in the game, from Mad Minstrel songs, fortune cookies, and conversations with npcs that you wouldn't normally talk to, and piece these all together in a loose framework of lore.

Also, using the TotRR, the best weapon in the game, isn't a chore; it's a privilege, and a lot of fun. Train polearms some time.

I realize that the TotRR is a nice weapon, but I just wish that you could kill Andy without the TotRR,or at least not have to wield it, because I personally find it odd how the most powerful weapon is a trident, in most games it's a sword.

Yeah, doesn't like his girdles:D

Has anyone ever gotten full artifact armor(wearing an artifact on every part of body)

Here's my ideal setup:

crown of leadership
preserver
fine leather armor
platinum girdle(yeah right)
brannalmin's cloak of defense
Sword of nonnak
Protector
RotMC
Ring of Immunity
Bracers of war
Ironfist
Boots of the Divine Messenger
Sun's Messenger
Silver Arrow , True Aim
Hammerhead

That is my ideal lawful necro. Of course I would only be able to live off of stomafillia. Which brings up a good question:
As I stated in another thread,(and read), you can make invincible necros, if you have Toughness increasing items on, so you'll never die of low toughness. I imagine that some of the things that bypass it are:kicking stairs down
petrifiation
starvation
corruption

And also, if you had such a char that was 'invincible', you wouldn't really need the awesome equipment, since you would be revived.

sword of nonnak is very far from ideal. and i'd go for farslayer.

speaking of full artifact you could ask how many of us ever gotten true strength.

+to my best knowledge bearable artifact boots and artifact cloaks come from crownings only. you can't have two crowns:) so you are left with boots of great suckiness, sorry meant speed...

On the theoretical side, I think that the Iron Crown of Havlor would surpass the crown of leadership in power greatly. Also, with the Ring of Immunity, the fine leather armor becomes near useless. (Its main benefit, after all, are the two immunities it grants...) Robes of resistance would mean more toughness for your lawful necro.

I like how Adom makes a spear into the ultimate weapon. Why do swords always have to be so great?

In fact, swords are relatively minor in Adom. Aside from the TotRR, the best weapons are Needle + Sting or the axe of the minotaur emperor. I realize few people use that axe, but with its raw damage and critical hits its a formidable weapon. If you want a powerful sword you need Vanquisher or a good eternium 2h.
