Accidentally teleported without my ring of TC and was pwned in one turn. I was fighting the water dragon full berserk with an eternium halbered and Hammerhead and almosted exhausted my 300 castings of Burning hands which should have done ~60 points of damage per hit. So one question: just how hard is the water dragon to kill anyways!

Depends:barbarians,it is pretty easy around level 18, tremendous blow kills, just ask Chaosmuffin:D

For spellcasters, I typically blind her(just don't get close) then shoot tons of magic missiles at her

For everything in between: you're probably at high enough level that either:
the equipment in her cave is pretty pathetic by this point
and
the exp just isn't worth the trouble, unless you're a hurthling or gnome, where you can gain 15 levels while slowed, with moloch armor:D

Gnomish elementalist wanting the tons of eternium equipment and the chance at a RoDS. Drove him insane and he had to try to get all that stuff. Pity...He was level 20.

Dang, that sucks. Did you have any paralyzation wands or blindness potions?

He can't fight in darkness so paralyzation or blindness wouldn't have helped me kill him. If I just had remembered my ring of TC then I would have escaped. :(

Well, I prefer potions of blindness, because it's like casting darkness, but you're not affected by it.

Its also temporary. I think people will wander in it as well instead of just coming up beside you.

You needn't kill her to loot her hoard. Just cast darkness all over the treasure room, pick everything up and teleport away.

IIRC, She is somehow protected by burning hands spell ('her scales absorb your touch' or something like that), so it's all useless against her.
The rust monster touches your blessed Trident of the Red Rooster. Nothing happens. You laugh at the monster's pitiful attempt.

IIRC, casting Burning Hands on her if you have high effectivity will do damage. Don't remember exactly, though, haven't paid a visit since gamma 16, lol.
For the Horde!
