*laughs hysterically* I was pretty pleased to get my first win recently, but I wasn't expecting to be writing another victory post so soon after. I've started two characters since my last victory - the other I still have running (Drakeling wizard) whilst this one I have brought to victory - and the ultimate lawful victory.

Never had much luck with rangers, but I played this one very carefully at the start. Left the puppy for the dead, let Kranach have his wicked way in the wilderness - levelled up and got decent equipment instead. Early altar in DD let me get a neutral precrowning with Protector. A second precrowning with herb-farming got me Skullcrusher. They served as a nice combo for a good portion of the game.

Annoyingly got perma invis from pools in DarkForge, and spent the rest of the game trying to get rid of it, but to no avail. Meant I couldn't pickpocket as much as I wanted which meant my stats didn't get ridiculously high from potions and I was sometimes running short on holy water. Got a few wishes from the pools though - helped for an amulet of life saving, Concentration skill and SLBs. Concentration meant I could use the guy as a pretty good spellcaster when I needed.

Didn't get any SLBs till very late so the game lasted a long time. Also spent a lot of time on digging/smithing and herb-farming. Found 3 (yes, 3) greater vaults - red dragons, giants and undead. Got 6 artifacts from those, as well as 3 from casino and numerous from random drops - I had way more random artifacts in this game than I've ever seen before. Also got to level 50 far sooner than I have done before - being a gnome helped. Corruption was never ever an issue - I could have gotten through without touching a single SoCR if I'd wanted. It's a pity I got myself crowned early - the black unicorn's awards would have suited me better. Couldn't enter the bug temple on this copy of the game, but there was nothing I needed there anyway.

Not the most powerful character I've ever had, but was fun to play, and nice to get a ULE at last. Andy fell without any degree of difficulty - usual formulaic finish with blessed quarrels of demon and humanoid slaying.

Tl: blessed torch (3392 turns of fuel remaining, lit) [10s]

### This is by far the tastiest set of equipment I've ever had. My armour was
better than either Robes of Resistance or Nature's Companion in my pack. I
was tempted not to wear crown of leadership or IronFist because I had stuff
in my pack that was outstripped them in terms of DV/PV. With those and
Serpent's Bite with Protector I could get DV/PV up to 230/85.

Helmets ('[')
   uncursed helm of teleportation [+8, +3] [50s]
   uncursed helm of leadership (-1, +1) [+4, +5] {Ch+6} [100s]
   uncursed crown of science [+4, +8] {Le+9} [65s]
   blessed crown of regeneration [+7, +6] [55s]
### My main helm before I got crown of leadership as a Uselessness gift. It
started off [+0, +0], but work at a forge in UD got it mighty tastier. By
the end I was regenning hp at a ridiculous rate.
uncursed helm of water breathing [+3, +3] [30s]
Armor ('[')
   uncursed ancient mummy wrapping [+1, +5] {Ap-8} [60s]

   uncursed robes of resistance (-4, -4) [+3, +12] {To+5} [60s]
### Bleh, both useless.

Shields ('[')
   uncursed medium obsidian shield "Protector" [+20, +4] {To+2} [46s]
### Got it at level 8 from a precrowning - made me invincible for the rest of
    the game.
Gauntlets ('[')
   uncursed elemental gauntlets (-1, +0) [+0, +3] [10s]

   blessed blue dragon-hide gauntlets (-2, +0) [+8, +6] [10s]
### More of my smith-work - I wore these most of the game.

uncursed orcish knife of hunting (+0, 1d3+2) [10s]

   blessed rune-covered club "Skullcrusher" (+12, 3d6+2) [-3, +0] {St+4}
   uncursed eternium warhammer (+0, 4d3+10) [29s]
   blessed emerald dagger "Serpent's Bite" (+3, 3d4+3) [+3, +1] [13s]
### I had an orcish knife of devastation early, which meant my dagger skill was
already trained well when I found this. Decided that overall it was better
than my previous weapon, Skullcrusher, 'cause of the +Crit. In the giant
vault I dual-wielded them for a little while - caused mass destruction :)
   uncursed scorched spear (+2, 3d8+1) [+2, +0] [50s]
### Found too late to be worth using.
   uncursed phase dagger (+3, 1d4+3) [5s]
   uncursed black rune-covered dagger "Needle" (+8, 3d4) [+4, +1] [10s]
   uncursed black rune-covered dagger "Sting" (+8, 3d4) [+4, +1] [10s]
### Tried dual-wielding these in the assassin cave for fun - amazingly nice,
but too risky to use all the time.
heap of 4 uncursed eternium long swords (+0, 2d8+7) [80s]
   uncursed whip of the snake (-1, 5d2+7) {Dx+10} (+10 spd) [15s]

   uncursed rune-covered halberd "Wyrmlance" (+15, 4d8+10) [-2, +0] [50s]
### Haha, didn't really bother with these at all, though Wyrmlance got a bit of
action in the blue dragon caves.
Missile weapons ('}')

blessed silvery arrow "True Aim" (+10, 15d5) [2s]
### Crowning gift. Found Thunderstroke earlier too. Both absolutely useless.
Far Slayer or Sun's Messenger would have been nice.

heap of 2 blessed rings of ice [2s]
heap of 3 uncursed rings of teleport control [3s]
blessed ring of the High Kings [+2, +3] [1s]
   uncursed ring of mental stability [+0, +4] {Le+1} [1s]
heap of 3 blessed brass rings [3s]
uncursed ring of slaying (+7 melee damage, +6 missile damage) [1s]
   uncursed ring of mental stability [+4, +3] {Le+1} [1s]
   uncursed ring of immunity [1s]
heap of 2 uncursed rings of slaying (+6 melee damage, +6 missile damage)
   uncursed ring of luck [1s]
   uncursed ring of mental stability [+0, +1] {Le+4} [1s]
### Had a few nice rings. Ring of immunity was pretty decent for a while, but
after I got the trident I decided it was obsolete and swtched to 2 slaying.
No kitty ring unfortunately - killed a cat fairly early on by accident.

Scrolls ('?')
<snipped>
heap of 8 blessed scrolls of chaos resistance [16s]
### I had 15 of these. Used 7 of them when Andy was critically injured,
thinking it might improve my score, but turns out when you kill him you
    get stripped of corruptions anyway.
Books ('"')
uncursed spellbook of Cure Light Wounds [100s]
uncursed spellbook of Death Ray [100s]
   uncursed spellbook of Farsight [100s]
   uncursed spellbook of Revelation [100s]
uncursed spellbook of Strength of Atlas [100s]
   uncursed spellbook of Teleportation [100s]
   blessed spellbook of Teleportation [100s]
### Book-casting Teleport trained my Mana stat nicely, but then I abused it
heavily writing scrolls of education near the end ofthe game. Wish I'd
found more books in the game, especially some ball spells, but ah well.
Food ('%')
<snipped>
uncursed cooked Chaos Archmage corpse [114s]
### Heh, never ate this cause I was crowned lawful. Went straight from Mana
Temple to D50, so never traded it in (not that another PoCC would have
    been in any way useful).
Valuables ('$')
   20000 gold pieces [200s]

### I think I started with a hand axe, which I used till I got an orcish spear
and trained it up to level 9 or so. Then I found a nice dagger which I used
till it was level 9, before getting Skullcrusher. Much later I got my hands
on Serpent's Bite which served me well. Wehn I got the TotRR I decided I'd
use it, and cleared D50 with it.

### Gnomes level up in crossbows very quickly, but I wish I'd found more normal
quarrels. With arrows you end up with loads of normal 1d6 ones that you
can train with, but quarrels only tend to come in small bundles. I tried
writing some scrolls of education to get fletchery, but no luck.

### When I got to level 30 or so my DV was too high form other things for the
shield skill to be trained properly. Didn't mind too much though - I was
getting a total of +44 DV from wearing Protector.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                              His further life:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

After slaying Andor Drakon and dispersing his malevolent energies the
pillars of Order appear before you. All the forces of Order seem to be
united behind them. You are lifted to the status of an Avatar of Order and
the tales of your deeds are spread all over Ancardia.

Your deeds are recounted at camp fires and interpreted by philosophers and
priests alike. The common man looks up to you and you slowly start to be
revered as a minor power of Order. After a few millennia have passed you are
raised to the position of a demi-god to guard and protect Ancardia from the
forces of Chaos and Balance forever.

Under your guidance Ancardia becomes an orderly and organized world without
striking changes. Peaceful order (and boredom?) spreads and the world enters
an era of peace and tranquility never again leaving it.

### Well that's OCG and ULE done now - I guess next is maybe UCG or a normal
    ending.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
              His achievements during his adventures:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Excelsior, the gnomish ranger, transformed into an avatar of Order.
He scored 9536818 points and advanced to level 50.
He survived for 0 years, 187 days, 9 hours, 5 minutes and 44 seconds (209801
turns).
Excelsior visited 137 places.
His strength score was modified by +26 during his career.
His learning score was modified by +22 during his career.
His willpower score was modified by +16 during his career.
His dexterity score was modified by +26 during his career.
His toughness score was modified by +33 during his career.
His charisma score was modified by +11 during his career.
His appearance score was modified by +12 during his career.
His mana score was modified by +17 during his career.
His perception score was modified by +11 during his career.
### Mana would have been hugely higher if I'd not written those scrolls - lost
    about 23 points overall.
He was unnaturally aged by 21 years.
He was the champion of the arena.
He was a member of the thieves guild.
He made a little water dragon very happy.
He defeated the arch enemy of a mighty karmic wyrm.
He saved Khelavaster from certain death.
He ended his adventuring life in the palace of Andor Drakon.
8355 monsters perished under his attacks.
The following 41 artifacts were generated during his adventure:
  the si
the scythe of corruption "Moon Sickle"
### Fed to ratling.
  the golden gladius "Death's Sting"
the Chaos Orb of Elemental Water
the Chaos Orb of Elemental Air
the Chaos Orb of Elemental Fire
the Chaos Orb of Elemental Earth
  the silvery arrow "True Aim"
### Crowning, bleh.
  the obsidian quarrel "Thunderstroke"
### Surge of power, bleh (fed to ratling)
  the lead-filled mace "Big Punch"
### More rat food.
  the scorched spear
### Giant vault late in the game - no use by then.
  the rune-covered trident
  the sword of Nonnak
### Ratling food.
  the elemental gauntlets
the ring of the High Kings
  the phial of Caladriel
### More rat fodder.
  the crown of science
  the ancient mummy wrapping
  the ankh
  the hammer of the gods
### Only artifact I never found - not exactly fussed though.
  the Crown of Chaos
  the black torc
### Gave to my little demented friend.
  the Medal of Chaos
  the rune-covered club "Skullcrusher"
### Second precrowning, and was well worth the effort.
  the glaive "Long Sting"
### In BDC I think - never used.
  the bracers of war
### Casino Shop - resorted to gambling to pay for it.
the Chaos Orb of Elemental Mana
  the black rune-covered dagger "Needle"
  the black rune-covered dagger "Sting"
  the rune-covered sling "Whirlwind"
### Casino Shop, but never bothered buying it.
the fine leather armor "Nature's Companion"
  the robes of resistance
### NC was in a mimic shop, RoR in a greater undead vault. Normally I'd be
torn over which to wear, but in this case my normal plate mail was better.
  the ring of immunity
### Greater dragon vault - fairly decent, but the immunities aren't really
    that useful.
  the medium obsidian shield "Protector"
### First precrowning - I love this shield :)
  the sapphire amulet "Preserver"
### Casino Shop - imagine my joy at finding this and BoW there? A lovely combo.
  the crown of leadership
### Uselessness. It's pretty decent, but I still kinda prefer my crown of regen.
  the iron gauntlets "Ironfist"
### Greater undead vault.
  the emerald dagger "Serpent's Bite"
### Greater dragon vault. +Crit and poisoning enemies is pretty nice, plus it
gave more DV than Skullcrusher, so overall I chose this.
the Trident of the Red Rooster
  the weird tome
  the rune-covered halberd "Wyrmlance"
### Random drop after the red dragon vault, but before BDC, so it still came in
    handy.
He possessed the following intrinsics:
  He was fire resistant.
He was poison resistant (enhanced through items).
  He was acid resistant.
He was lucky (enhanced through items).
  Fate smiled upon him.
He was able to control teleportation.
  He was invisible.
He was stun resistant (gained through items).
He was paralyzation resistant (gained through an item).
He was resistant to death rays (enhanced through items).
  He was shock resistant.
He was able to see invisible things (enhanced through items).
He was immune to shock attacks (gained through an item).
He was immune to fire attacks.
### Crowning. After the fire temple though :(
He was immune to acidic attacks.
### Acid slug in druid dungeon.
He was immune to ice attacks (gained through an item).
He was able to breathe water (gained through an item).
He was able to resist confusion attacks (gained through items).

Good Shot, Greased Lightning, Keen Shot, Lightning Shot, Long Stride, Master
Packager, Mighty Strike, Miser, Porter, Powerful Strike, Quick, Quick Shot,
Treasure Hunter, Very Quick.
### The archery talents really are amazing - make you superfast and super powerful.
Really have to try a pure archer some time.
He had a final speed score of 685 (final base speed: 150).
He was a messiah of Gnarl.
He asked for 6 divine interventions.
### Hrm, two of these were to get rid of stunning in casino, and 1 was to cure
confusion from stupidly reading weird tome. Not sure about the others.
He was a holy champion of Order.

The following monsters were vanquished:
<muchos snippage below>
     65 ancient blue dragons
### Ate a few of these and the wyrms with sickness to imrpove Dex.
      1 ancient blue wyrm
      1 Ancient Chaos Wyrm
      1 ancient karmic dragon
     38 ancient red dragons
      1 Ancient Stone Beast
      4 ancient white dragons

      1 assassin prince
### Was a little pansy.
     11 balors
      2 berserker emperors
### Hmm, never noticed those - Serpent's Bite makes most enemies quite unnoticable.
      1 cat lord
### Fell pretty easily to humanoid slaying quarrels - didn't give much xp though.
      4 cave lions
      7 cave tigers
      1 Chaos Archmage
### Took him down with quarrels and then Serpent's Bite when he moved close.
Didn't put up much of a fight really - no stat-draining, and he never
bothered healing himself which made the fight fairly quick. Threw a lot of
bolts at me, but they all missed. After I got the orb and his corpse I just
left - couldn't be bothered clearing the whole temple.
     31 chaos knights
### Hurrah for these guys dropping eternium gear - this is the second game I've
gotten eternium plate mail of resilience.
      2 doppleganger kings
### Wow, never noticed these either.
      1 dwarven artificer
### Needed an anvil.
      1 ElDeR cHaOs GoD
### Gave 2 xp when killed, which was a bit of a surprise - I thought he normally
    only gives 1.
      1 emperor lich
### Greater undead vault - not much of a challenge, but the constant summoning
    was a bitch.
      1 emperor moloch
### Heh, this guy's a joke really. As are all molochs to be honest - as long as
you're careful they go down easy.
      6 giant boars
### *grumbles* Took a while to get that skull.
      6 great blue wyrms
      3 great karmic wyrms
      1 great red wyrm
      3 greater air elementals
      1 greater balor
      1 greater black unicorn
      1 greater earth elemental
     32 greater fire elementals
### Threat room of them in the scintillating cave. Easy enough.
      4 greater molochs
      3 greater titans
      2 greater water elementals
     10 liches
     14 lich kings
     33 master liches
      1 oracle
### Le started off a bit low, but the Oracle kindly let me pick her brains.
      1 raider lord
### Oh, hmm, didn't realise I'd bagged him...
     25 titans
### Threat room in BDC - ate a fair few of them for St and To.

Congrats! I believe that I'm the only person around here that makes a concentrated effort to roleplay...for example: killing the oracle to eat her brains?no offense man, just thought it was funny....

Haha, well with some characters I roleplay, with others I won't. I needed the Le, and I was chaotic at the time - was easier than mining for ages to get crystals of knowledge.

I don't understand:

"got perma invis from pools in DarkForge, and spent the rest of the game trying to get rid of it, but to no avail. Meant I couldn't pickpocket as much as I wanted..."

You should be able to pickpocket easily when invisible. I always have been.

Skill checks are unaffected by invisibility.

I was crowned lawful, and pickpocketing is a chaotic act unless the enemy is attacking you. If you're invisible that doesn't tend to happen. I still did it now and then of course, especially by attacking enemies first and then pickpocketing them, but most of them died on the first hit :(

Congrats! I find it interesting that your first two wins are both special endings. Regular endings aren't much easier, but definitely don't need as much planning.

And you don't have to rely on positive RNG turnouts for regular endings. (Like getting all the stuff Gaab'Baay wants plus an AoLS)

You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.

I've never failed in getting an AoLS from DarkForge, and never had trouble getting Gaab'Baay's items. Also, I'm an extreme perfectionist, so I like doing everything possible :)

I don't see the problem with most of Gaab'Baay's items but the AoLS has killed me several times while doing regular endings. Darkforge almost never has an AoLS for me... And I only try with both luck intrinsics, a blessed ankh AND permanent blessing.

I, for instance, am searching for a scroll of danger right now.

I know what you want to say now. ;) "Go to the dwarven graveyard and start killing gremlins."

But I have chosen the much harder, but also far less boring method: Climbing down the rift.

Sadly, my climbing skill isn't high enough...
