You do have to consider that executor causes bad luck though. I would definitely hope for getting rolf's axe, in case you don't wanna be cursed.

Mewto: As long as you're the same alignment of the altar you can still sac on it, but beware that you'll start off at incredibly low piety (so sac a big amount of gold and make sure you're only wearing artifacts).

Noob: Cursed is worth it. Besides if you have lucky and fate smiles it's not really noticeable, apart from random encounters (which can be handy sometimes).

Just don't be wielding executor while praying, saccing, or (obviously) drinking from pools.

Weird, on my way to the altar in Dwarftown I had my birthday :P. I sacced 10 gp and then 10 gp to convert to N, and I was feeling spiritually invincible. Not very low piety, I would guess. I'm going to the CoC graveyard to dig some graves and hopefully pick-pocket some good things. I think I'll start a gremlin bomb, too. Those specters drained my To and St, I would really like a GoGS right now.

Edit: Made a gremlin bomb in the graveyard and pick-pocketed lots of good stuff. One of the gremlins dropped Ironfist. Died to a gorgon's petrification attack :( Nature's Companion was generated somewhere. Oh well, better luck next time.

i pulled myself out of problem one more time.

pulled my invisible ass from dwarftown taking shopkeeper with me. killed him with fireball wand (pathetic, i know) since my dv on coward is above 100.

managed to retain neutral in process.
used upper CoC altar to get rid of curse, which i picked in shoplifting/shopkeeper killing action.
used stocked at terinyo blink dog corpses to regain tp control.

finally burdened by moral problems i admitted not being right slayer... so i renamed myself into Faith Lehane.

it is basically vampire slayer(from series about Buffy), just withou code, adictive to violence and so on... and very jjealous to Buffy, so faking into her name, person early on is very her style:) you can check her history on wikipedia. she is got her own article:)

so i'm back in roleplay. and i'm free from moral stuff: what Buffy could and what could not do.

edit: killed my first vampire:)))

My current character is a gnomish elementalist, lvl 20. Crowned with nature's friend, and got executor as a postcrown-gift. Immune to fire. Some 15 spells, including invisibility, remove curse, usual elementalist spells...

Btw, I remember seeing a list of the elementalists' spells somewhere, but can't find it anywhere now. It's the one where you can see in which level you gain spells. I'd be happy if someone could link me to it.

IIRC elementalists gain fire immunity (or was it resistance?) so the crowning immunity was pretty useless.

Here's something I found on a forum:

I haven't tested this formula but it should be correct.

Now, the elementalist charge increases appear to be based on your level
only, no random factors at all:

Level Spell Increase MaxIncr
1-4 Burning Hands Level * 5 + 50
5-14 Burning Hands Level * 4 + 35
15+ Burning Hands Level * 3 + 25
1-4 Frost Bolt Level * 2 + 15
5+ Frost Bolt Level * 4 + 50
5-14 Fire Bolt Level * 5 + 15
15+ Fire Bolt Level * 5 + 25
5+ Fireball Level / 3 10
10+ Earthquake Level / 2 5
15+ Imp. Fireball Level / 4 5
20+ Lightning Ball Level / 4 5
25+ Ice Ball Level / 4 5

This chart has been tested fairly throughly in-game and should be
completely accurate. Pretty self explanatory; Level is the level you
will have after leveling up, MaxIncr is the maximum amount it will raise.

I hesitated to post my current char here, because I usually die right after :)

Flavius, the human mage is having a hard time with corruption. He's lv 41, and has recently cleared the ToEF, Water Temple and Air Temple.
This guy has pretty good stats for a mage, methinks, especially since I didn't use Herbalism too much.
38 St, 33 Le, 41 Wi (with Water Orb), 36 Dx, 40 To and 40 Ma.
I'm wearing the Crown of Leadership (found in the Air Temple, I think), ankh (my previous two char's forgot about the Pyramid :P), a cloak of invisibility, Executor (grave digging), Protector (greater giant vault), BoW (same giant vault) and 7LB's (I've never had this many pairs, I have four now from Darkforge and Casino).
I've visited the rift, killed the Cat Lord and Blup's mum (9 levels for those two, great combo) and I'm currently preparing myself for the next temple. Unfortunately, I couldn't save Khelly. On the 110th day I was severely corrupted, so I decided to do the white unicorn's bidding and kill his brother. Cleaned myself of corruptions, but I have no SoCR left, only two PoCC, from the Guardians.
I have almost 600 HP and 739 PP, hopefully enough to survive in the Earth Temple. I have unpleasant memories from Gamma 16...

Edit: Ahem, what was I saying about every char dying straight after I post here? This one died on D43 to a tension room of greater molochs. One of them equipped a hulking armor... you know the rest.

That bug really sucks for nice chars. Has anyone ever killed a super fast Greater Moloch? The only way I see of someone doing it would be to have it trapped in the pool area of Darkforge, so it couldn't get to you and it couldn't run away or dig its way out.

I remember reading about someone doing it before - farsight, teleportation and blessed demon slaying ammo. Remember that although they're fast, they still are pretty weak to certain attacks, and as long as you can keep your distance and keep hitting them they'll fall easily.

I started to play ADOM again for a bit and decided to roll a dwarven fighter with the following rules/restrictions:
- use only axes as melee weapons and missiles
- kill orcs on sight
- never use anything of elvish or orcish origin
- bless the first girdle of greed you find and use it for the rest of the game
- collect and keep all gems you see except worthless pieces of glass
This far I did the outside quests + CoC up to the wall of flames, so ToEF will be next. Of course the RNG laughed at me when it decided to give Vanquisher as crowning gift.
The char is now L20 with Rolf's Companion as weapon and a bunch of correct stuff (eternium cap/shield/boots, AMW, ankh, RoHK, RoS, elemental gauntlets), but nothing outstanding... I don't know how he will do in the ToEF without fire immunity (forget the dooming crown...), any ring of ice, proper missiles and spells. Should be a good challenge...

And from a previous post...
Silfir says...

"My trollish mindcrafter (kicking ASS) found in the casino:

Protector
Executor
bracers of war

He is now kicking even more ass. "

Err... I wish my char had those, he would kick ass too :)

Edit #1:
Strangely, the ToEF was a breeze... must have got fire resistance somewhere, because with 2 items giving it I was able to resist the searing flames... and everything fell in melee pretty easily, the only problem I had was the destruction of one of the two blessed fireproof blankets I was carrying after only a couple of turns in the heat (fortunately the second one survived).
Bad luck occured when some acid breath destroyed most of the SoCRs from Khelly (and I had to use the remaining to clean the Stiff Muscles corruption twice...), so I will probably have to do the Rift to get the ones from the Minstrel...
I skipped a greater undead vault on D26 (item detection revealed some armor part and the black tome... probably not worth the hassle), then gambled a bit in the casino to buy the only interesting item in the shop... Executor! And I don't know if the cursing could explain it, but two greater vaults full of giants were generated before the air temple... and of course all their inhabitants were promply executed... and more artifacts collected (Nature's Companion, Hammerhead, scorched spear, Far Slayer).
No big trouble till now... but I bet it won't stay that way for long...
The Great Wyrm of Order breathes light (more) - wow, you feel very smart!

My current character is a level 25 female hurthling wizard named Epiglottis. :P

She got crowned and twice post-crowned in the UD by sacrificing herbs. Lots of herbs... Ended up getting staff of the wanderer, bracers of war, and thunderstroke. Got immunity to acid from the crowning, shock immunity from the staff, and ice immunity from the pyramid. Got a girdle and helm each with 6 PV. DV/PV: 62/36 right now, with normal tactics. Stats: St:22 Le:23 Wi:25 Dx:38 To:33 Ch:20 Ap: 1 Ma:16 Pe:20.

She's grown 12 eyes and she's got horns. Imagine the face she must have...

I breezed through the ToEF and the Water Temple. I think I'll clear my way through to the casino and explore around there for levels and treasure. Still don't have the 7-league boots yet. Trying to decide when to visit the rift.

I have a crapload of scrolls of chaos resistance. 12 or something like that. Got plenty of extra healing potions too, and I've only had to use two or three so far.

I'm hoping this'll be my first win, and I don't wanna mess it up. I think the reason I've never won is my short attention span and impatience.

Going for a normal ending, of course. Just wanna close that gate and get the heck out.

Oh yeah. Killed a few cats. Once that cat lord is dead though, I can kill all the cats I want without consequence.

Why is it that I'm finding ghost lords and such down on D:6? I don't think things like that were appearing up near the surface early on. Is it the 90-day thing? As I understand it, that's when corruption starts to increase, and if corruption's linked with danger level, it shouldn't go up to D:6... Or is it something else mysterious, linked to some measure of success, like level, stats, number of artifacts generated, etc?

Okay, so I'm level 44 and clearing through the deeper levels of the CoC. Looks like a winner, I'm sure. Got a RoDS saved for later, lots of SoCR, every spell I could desire with plenty of castings, a bunch of potions of gain attributes waiting to be quaffed, Ironfist now. I just don't have a wand of destruction... Oh yeah, the wish. I'll take that ring with me incase I don't find one by the time I get down there.

I was wrong... dwarven fighter using only axes isn't that great of a challenge when you have Executor as main weapon and Rolf's Companion as missile. And the cursing helps finding even more great stuff... two more greater vaults were generated below the air temple, one full of greater undead (skipped - item detection revealed a brown "(", probably Skullcrusher, and a green "["... robes of resistance maybe), and one full of red dragons... with a yellow "~" inside! (more than worth the few corruptions picked during the clearing process). Seven league boots and a couple RoDS were found on the way to the mana temple (the boots were unfortunately destroyed later...).
Deep temples were a joke with this character... even Nuurag fell quickly in melee without any stat drain. And to make the character even more powerful, the RNG decided to grant him Protector as uselessness gift!
Everything on D50 was slaughtered easily too, even Fisty and all his fellow balors. And among the impressive pile of loot generated by all the monsters (thanks to the Treasure Hunter talent)... a wand of wishing! The second one I've ever found... in 11 years of playing ADOM!
So the gate is closed, corruption vanished... and my character is left with a wand of wishing (3 charges) on the road to the Drakalor Pass. And I don't really want to end the game like that...

Well since the character was only level 47 after closing the gate, I decided to go back in the CoC and do the blue dragon caves to reach level 50. Then a more interesting challenge... retrieve the TotRR without phase daggers and demon slaying ammo. After a few swings with Executor... without harming the emperor moloch it was clear brute force wouldn't be the right tactic, so I changed to wand of far slaying + potions of booze + scrolls of power when the EM was next to the upstairs... it took a while but worked perfectly.
Guess this char will simply bring the wand of wishing home as a trophy :)

Decided to try ADOM for the first time in LOOOONG time. Sadly I'm having problems with ADOM in Linux (some strange "Can't delete blah blah" error message just keeps coming up) so I just had to resort to playing in Amiga (1.0.0 naturally). I tried a dark elf ranger and after numerous failed attempts got a decent char going. My strategy here is going straight to SMC and seek the downstairs. If the downstairs aren't in the second room near upstairs I quit and try again. Now, this char found the downstairs in the second room near upstairs, but he also found a THS weighing 50 s - yes, eternium two handed sword. Needless to say, I immediately swapped those puny scimitars for this monster and proceeded to rip my way through monsters like a steamroller :-)

Exiting SMC I then popped over to Holeinthewall to get pick pockets. Then to Terinyo for puppy quest and carpenter quest. Puppy quest was cut short by a river in early level and when the char found a gray altar and some herbs in early level of carpenter dungeon I left the carpenter to wait. A quick trip to ID to collect some stuff and money for detect traps and I was off to UD. Nothing too interesting here, just another gray altar and herbs. After exiting HMV I then popped over to the old barb for courage quest and then continued to CoC.

In CoC nothing special was found. No vault in that split level but bigroom had 3 separate 2x2 squares of stoma. After shortly popping over to Dwarfville to get the quest (raider, found couple of levels down) I returned to bigroom to collect some stoma for precrowning and crowning. Sadly the char didn't have wand of door creation so no pacifying bigroom. I had to wade through lots of monsters while collecting stoma. Fortunately that eternium THS really made short work of enemies.

After collecting some 220 blessed stoma I returned to Dwarfville for precrowning and crowning. First I sacced some 120 blessed stoma to get extremely close, then led one dwarf to previous level and killed him to get off extreme alignment, returned to altar and prayed. The reward was... Black F**king Tome of A**ef**kus. ¤&/(/! Growning yielded fire immunity and boots of divine messenger.

Lvl 19 dwarven weaponsmith. Ironfist, Skullcrusher, Wyrmlance, Big Punch, Robes of Resistance...I've been VERY lucky so far. But it gets even better. Just did some dippin' and voila! Two RoDS :). Now Khelly is sure to be saved.

Also experimenting with a dwarven bard. Currently at level 15 and has a very experienced killer bug as a pet. The killer bug already cleared out the Dark Forge (including Kherab), killed a shopkeeper and the old barbarian and most bugs in the first level of the ruins. It could take me out for good in a about half a turn. Has anyone tried just HOW powerfull can a killer bug get with a decent training?

I have to beef up my char a bit before I continue the training process because at the moment my char would lose 100-0 to the monsters my killer bug kills in a blink of an eye. And he is not even extremely experienced yet!

...And my weaponsmith perished ten minutes later. Killed by a named ancient red wyrm in the dwarven halls. Pretty tough customer, took my char from full health 243 to minus 10 in a single turn. Of course having the RoDS in my inventory. Maybe I should have wished for an AoLS RIGHT AWAY. I suck.

Well still got a promising dwarven paladin alive. an AoLS and a RoDS. Currently at level 13 so I'm way ahead of my usual schedule. That class ability you get once you reach lvl 50, -30% to all corruptions, combined with the hard to be corrupted star sign gotta help that char in my goal to achieve an ultra ending.

Eeh... isn't it? :D
Winning isn't easy, and victories are underrated. Many experts aren't proud enough of their victories... well back then, when I could win two games in a row I wasn't exactly proud either but nowadays I am... :I

The thing is, I'm a graphics fan, and one of the reasons I always come back to ADOM is because I've never won :)

And the reason *I* came back recently was because I was playing on a crappy computer and ADOM in DOS was about the only thing that didn't hang up every time.

So, I have been playing adom lately at night for like 3 hours, and probably going for a win with a healer, assasin, or bard, with a human, dark elf, drakeling, or dwarf....
