At least the last three times I did the ToEF I didn't have a ring of ice.. But maybe a wizard or a barbarian with Vanquisher have an easier time there than, say, an archer :)

Hey, I just noticed, you're a dwarven weaponsmith! Just smith up all non-iron gear and go whoop some ass. Remember that throwing potions and zapping wands might be very useful when fighting the wyrm.
If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.

I lost two girdles of giant strength to the damn ToEF, WITH rings of ice. Hate 'em. Now I rely on higher metal gear, wands and throwing potions to help me kill the ACW.

If you do get and use them, don't equip rings of ice and the vulnerable stuff longer than necessary, i. e. equip that stuff shortly before the fight and unequip it shortly afterwards. Sounds like a no-brainer, but people like me need to be reminded of stuff like this.

YASD: lost great High Elven Barbarian to stupidity (well, I guess that isn't news)

I decided to take on the Minotaur maze: bad idea. It wouldn't have been that bad had there been no corruption. But corruption sucks there. I will *never* try to get that axe again. After picking up a few dex-reducing corruptions I decided I would take on BUGWIL to raise dex. I wasn't watching my hp as I took on a GCB, a monster far below the threshold of dangerous, though possibly more dangerous than any other monster (including greater molochs, btw) thanks to my moloch armor which I wasn't wearing at the time (elven chain mail of speed).

I did learn some important lessons:

How to use Bugwil (I had scummed it before).

How not to use Bugwil (do not spend more than two turns adjacent to ANY bug (and no more than one bug at a time)).

How to deal with uber-greater-molochs. Since the only get an *energy* boost not a *speed* boost, all you need to do is boost your speed a little (350 if fine as long as you have decent perception to see a moloch comming from four squares away) and teleport or be in a place with a river, and sit there for at least 10 turns until the moloch slows down.

How Greater-molochs aren't very dangerous if you have 40 pv (deal 120-200 damage).

The Minotaur Maze with a non-spellcaster = THE HORROR! THE HORROR!!!

Absolutely true - actually WALKING through the maze!! Did you get the axe?

Sad - after finally defeating an uber-GM (the horror of all uber-pc's). Pretty impressive nevertheless...

Well, I didn't defeat the uber-GM while he was uber...

No I did not get the axe, I will never try again.

The next time though, I will wish for GMs sooner.

Actually, I will move on to practicing DE thieves for the Christmas challenge. Those guys are *weak*.

Indeed they are. I still remember the most succesful dark elven thief I have ever had. It was early game, not all dwarftotwn quests were done yet. He had permanent invisibility. He just backstabbed through everything, it was like nothing could stop him. And then... he steps... on a... stone... block....... trap............. *sob*

If you are going for cow axe you'll need 14 scrolls of magic mapping(the worst case scenario) and shitloads of zaps from teleportation wands.

That weaponsmith died on the highest level fighting that damned orb guardian. I kinda foresaw it, she was not going to make it. She had no fast way to kill it, and no fast ways to heal herself.

One kind of turnpoint was when I fast-picked the potions I had dropped earlier on (with pick up potion of booze? Yynq). Pressed Y, and soon I wondered why I had hundreds of potions of poison...... :'( ;P

I didn't take up the .flg back then, but I took a backup and pressed quit, so here's some details:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Her achievements during her adventures:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Olad, the dwarven weaponsmith, quit prematurely.
She scored 494185 points and advanced to level 21.
She survived for 0 years, 148 days, 16 hours, 49 minutes and 14 seconds
(120297 turns).
Olad visited 74 places.
Her strength score was modified by +5 during her career.
Her learning score was modified by +6 during her career.
Her willpower score was modified by +1 during her career.
Her dexterity score was modified by +5 during her career.
Her toughness score was modified by +8 during her career.
Her charisma score was modified by +1 during her career.
Her appearance score was modified by +6 during her career.
Her mana score was modified by +2 during her career.
Her perception score was modified by +3 during her career.
She was the champion of the arena.
She was a member of the thieves guild.
She made a little water dragon very happy.
She saved Khelavaster from certain death.
She ended her adventuring life on level 1 of the caverns of chaos.
6434 monsters perished under her attacks.
The following 18 artifacts were generated during her adventure:
the si
the dwarven rune axe "Rolf's Companion"
the scythe of corruption "Moon Sickle"
the golden gladius "Death's Sting"
the dwarven shield "Rolf's Saviour"
the Chaos Orb of Elemental Water
the heavy crossbow "The Far Slayer"
the lead-filled mace "Big Punch"
the sword of Nonnak
the elemental gauntlets
the ring of the High Kings
the phial of Caladriel
the crown of science
the ancient mummy wrapping
the ankh
the bracers of war
the ring of immunity
the crown of leadership
She possessed the following intrinsics:
She was fire resistant (gained through items).
She was poison resistant (enhanced through items).
She was cold resistant (gained through an item).
She was lucky (enhanced through an item).
Fate smiled upon her (enhanced through an item).
She was sleep resistant (gained through an item).
She was able to control teleportation.
She was stun resistant (enhanced through an item).
She was paralyzation resistant.
She was resistant to death rays (gained through an item).
She was shock resistant (gained through an item).
She was able to see invisible things (gained through items).
She was immune to acidic attacks.
She was immune to ice attacks (gained through an item).
She was able to resist confusion attacks (gained through an item).
She had the following talents: Beast of Burden, Careful, Defensive Fighter,
Greased Lightning, Healthy, Long Stride, Master Packager, Porter, Quick,
Very Quick.
She had a final speed score of 118 (final base speed: 118).
She was a paragon of her religion.
She asked for 5 divine interventions.
She was a holy champion of Order.
She was tainted by Chaos.

(Actually she scored 513207 points, I guess quiting prematurely doesn't give as much score as dying :p)

But hell... I just realised Bracers of War were generated somewhere! Bloody hell, didn't find them in the game! :/

It's pretty impressive that you decided to take
on the ACW while having your Willpower stat
modified by only 1. Utilizing the stairs, I think
that is possible.
But the potions into poison was really bad luck.
Poor Olad didn't stand much of a chance against
the ACW without some. A couple of extra/ultra
healing potions are vital.

my cuurent char was in position for ultra: danger scroll, RoDS. But before playing with daemon i decided to take ratling out of level just in case.

I've got a message of him "no liking to be pushed arround" after :switching positions. I took him to ogre cave and left there.

Question is what can be done? i will try calm monster spell and berzio potions. What else can I try?

This is somewhat painful as i keep same orc/race/name character in couple games and try to rolpeplay it at my best.

Gut: Yes, she was kinda doomed to die anyway. 100+ days passed, and no sure means to dispose of the ACW. I guess I was just tired of scumming for stuff, and decided to get in.

Anyways, I have a gnomish wizard now, lvl 19. I've never survived this far with a wizard :) Just need to train up bows and find some slaying ammo so ToEF should be a piece of cake. Got a ring of ice in Dwarftown shop too.

@Soirana: There is still hope! Got the same once - just have him attacked by companions (causes him neutral at once). Preferable heal him afterwards to make him even more friendly (just in case). DON'T attack him - once you attack he will NEVER help you again. Calm monster only works after attacking him (but he won't be useful anymore).

I've got a lvl 27 wizard now. I've never made it past lvl 15 with wizard before, and I'm convinced this one is going to get far. Tower done, rift done, TotHK done, Darkforge done, all useful quests done... Now just searching for either RoDS, WoW or AoLS to get further ;)

E: Lvl 32- visited water dragon cave again.... ;) Although I didn't cast slow on myself early enough :/

How do you get past the bleedin' "searing wall of flames" on the stairs on lvl 27 of the CoC? I've heard you need some item that is in the ToEF, but I don't know what.

Look for a particularly powerful monster in the Tower - perhaps one of the lieutenants of Chaos.

Its annoying when you play with adom sage and have "autoswap neutral monster" option on and and random swap with dwarven child causes alert (but only when you hit it).I figured message" %s doesnt like to be pushed around." should be :no_skip unless you want to walk carefully in DT(which is timewasting )

Been playing ADOM for a very long time and this week for the first time I got past the TOEF. yey me :)

The char is a Drakeling Wizard, I love playing drakelings, prolly why I've had trouble getting past TOEF ;) Dooing pretty well. Just finished with the rift and the stats are pretty awesome. No really decent artifacts yet, just ironfist and the normal stuff you get (rofls saviour, RoHK, etc). Saved Khalivaster dude and got the wierd rome so I have 12 SoCR and a couple of PoCC (yey for teleport and Food preservation. Got ALOT of forges all over the place, dwarftown on lv 9. spear and sword skills at lv9 (Got an eternium spear and a sword of sharpness) he's level 25 or something and going to the casino for the first time. Got 1 wish from a ring and used it for some red dragon scale mails. Got 3 that were the same as my eternium scale mail (so worth it to get past TOEF). I always train scugerai when I find some because I love boomerangs. I got some scugerai of returning though :) got 3 corruptions; 12 eyes, horns and very light. Got my wilpower up over 35 with the sword of nonac (nice since I got sword skill at 9)

so yea, will see how far this guy gets before he dies. Also want to try an archer but dont know what to use so testing out a bunch of guys. humans get food pres, orcs get find weakness and I would love to go dwarf or gnome but no food pres/find weakness :( I dunno what to take.
