I discovered something new yesterday, as I tried to get a precious Ring of Ice for Melchior (more about him in the YASD thread). If you have a stack of items, and a blessed potion of exchange, if you dip the stack, the ENTIRE stack is randomly changed. My 6 rings of stun resistance turned into 6 rings of the clear mind (rusted from the dipping too).

It got me thinking, what if they changed into rings of Djinni Summoning? Imagine the possibilities! 6 wishes right there!

I was also wondering, what the size limit was. Obviously you wouldn't be able to dip 6 weapons or armors all at once... or would you?

You must have been living under a rock ;)
That's what the wish engine is about.
The limit is 18 rings at once and it's determined by weight of the combined items.

IIRC the limit was 19 rings at once, not 18. Could be wrong, though.

Right. Now, 19 wish rings is nice but nowhere as nice as some 300 wish rings. IIRC my first archmage actually made some 300 RoDS...

It feels cheap when you do it though, I think. You end up with 10 or more wishes and it just kinda ruins the game.

i'd say 19 and 300 dpoesn't make that much diferent.

for normal game purposes you have everything you need in botth cases.

p.s. according using all wishes on potions of exchange (assumably you have enough holy water and scrolls of repair) aproximately doubles wishes.

19 RoDs= 57 potions
25dips=19RoDS
that is of course affected my random stuff

I haven't been on the various forums much, and IIRC, "wish engine" techniques aren't listed in the guidebook. I imagine there are lots of great strategies I'm not yet aware of. I only recently, from this forum, learned about how decreasing stats through items (ring of weakness then eat Giant/Ogre corpses) status (sick) or corruption would allow for much easier stat gains. That's one of the reasons this game is so great and enduring, all the nuances and detail and strategy, so much to be discovered.

I still want to know how people get to the third or fourth Willpower breakpoint for ball spells. It's not garth or morgia roots (or is it?)

If I dip the stack of rings into a blessed oil of rust removal, will that prevent them from rusting on subsequent dips?

Nightmare: AFAIK PoEX doesn't rust items dipped into it. Those rings must've been rusty before you dipped them. At least I don't remember ever getting rusty rings from PoEX-dipping.

As for stat gain, I tend to find more stat potions towards the end of the game. However, my straight-99 chars have maximised their stats after closing the gate. With no background corruption one can spend as much time scumming as needed to get those 99's.

rings can be randomly generated rusty while doing diping into PoEX. this status dissapears after next dip.

let me think about willpower:
herbs+small sick tricks-- up to 29.
water orb+10
sword of nonnak +5
preserwer+6 or good amulet with wi+5
random PoGA+black unicorn quest yet another +10 at least by time you reach lv30.
that makes 59. you still need 5 points in extra PoGA(alchmey might help a lot), potions of willpower.
+you can boost it on special ocasions.

with training willpower, I find that the casino produces many useful potions that can be used with alchemy to make PoGA, provided that you have some herbs on you.

Ah, thanks everyone, esp Soirana for showing how to get willpower up that high. So 64 is the ... 5th breakpoint, meaning 5 extra squares of effect for each ball spell? Not finding that part in the guidebook.

let's say it's not a really bad idea. Sometimes the recipe for PoGA can be really bad like PoCC and potion of youth.

64 is 4th breakpoint. 4square ball radius.

PoCC+potion of strength is absolutely worst recipe for PoGA. saw it on couple of cases

PoCC and PoUH is one I've had a few times. There's probably worse though.

(of course if one had access to the healer it would technically mean the possibility of unlimited PoGAs (albeit at tedious cost), but I almost always take the druid quest myself)

Darren - what do you mean by access to the healer? Is there some means where you can get potions of ultra healing out of him or something?

IIRC the healer gives the char PoUH as a reward for acts of mercy (like healing monsters not injured by the PC).

So how do you do that? Put a trap in a room near Jharod, have monsters run over it, then have them chase you near him and throw a potion of healing at them? Would that work, or is there a more effective way?

Cast a healing spell on any hostile monster in Jharod's vicinity and you'll be rewarded. If you already have the healing skill he'll give you a PoUH, and you can keep doing it an infinite number of times. Technically you could get your HP to max with lots of blessed potions.

Alchemy would also work for that... given the receipt for potions of extra healing is any good.

To receive PoUH you need to have healing at 100. If not, you will get a stethoscope and +increase to healing-skill-dice.

You need to cast healing spell on a hurt monster (hostile or not, no matter), but it must not have been hurt by YOU, by melee, missile or magic.

Also, you can do the good deed anywhere, and then later visit healer and get benefit. He is omniscient to good healing deed. However, if you wanna abuse this feature you will definately set up something near him. Or would this work: Get him to follow you to water cave. Heal and chat with him for the PoUHs.

Also, remember that healing mnsters will improve your alignment. Watch out of you want to remain N or C

And lastly, the PoUH are always blessed. So no need to ID and spend holy water on them, just quaff as they drop.

Ways for monsters to get hurt:
Drowning in Water cave
Burning in ToEF
Trap damage
Attacked by another monster:
- Your pet gets hurt attacking
- Other monster gets hurt by pet attacking
- Nonhostile monster attacks/attacked by hostile monster
- Monsters attacking because of alarm trap

Ways to heal monsters:
Healing spell
Throwing healing potion
Using healer special class-ability (never tried)
Giving bones to skeleton
..any more?

making him move from room he is generated in is sort of problematic. basically you need pet... strong enough to witstand couple healer's hits and weak enough not to kill him...

i'd prefer healing poisoned pet. dark elf summoners do wonders.

Healing poisoned pet would work very well - I've used it numerous times in the past for getting alignment up to L+ at high levels.

I just found a good one. Get to dwarftown, then walk some dwarves up or down the stairs with you. In addition to mining, thereby uncovering rock ammo, gems, and ore, they get into scraps with the wandering monsters, creating great opportunities to throw healing potions at them.
