Did you ever try this rougue-like?

It's a very cool space ship rogue-like:
it has
1)dungeon-levels (i.e. galaxies) random generated,
2) freedom(you can travel the space and do many things),
3)rpg-features (the ship has various equipment, there are ship classes too),
4)the old evil find: you don't know what many things do until you use them or identify them,
sometimes with unpleaseant surprise (of course they are not scrolls or potions), so there are some original way to kill yourself
5)combat, mission and magic (i.e. technologies)
6)there is a God too, maybe you can get crowned in some way
7)amazing graphic

Tried it for a bit, i'd say it was more of an action game. If ur into space games though here's one that you will like. http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?gameid=1040 it's an old school game called star command, with semi random quests and an absolutley free go anywhere exploration feel, its much more in depth, but its very easy to pick up, with turn based ship movement and a squad that mans the ship that can board enemy ships and search abandonded space colonies or worlds, you get to buy your own ship and its equipment as well as your equipment as you try to save the galaxy, its more rpgish, but well worth a try.

This seems like a cool little game, but I kinda fail to see how it's a roguelike :)

Another similar game, this one is a (pretty much) remake of the classic wing commander privateer! http://priv.solsector.net/ Man, I loved playing wing commanders as a kid. I&II rock. Anything after that, with graphics not-as-horrible and enemies other than kilrathi, suck ass.

Maybe Trascendence is not fully a roguelike
because it isn't turn-based and it doesn't have level-ups. But it has many features in common with a roguelike.

1)the maps are random generated each game.
2)there are equipments for your ship.
3)you have to pass from start system to star system until you reach the core (like going down in a dungeon and reaching the last level)
4)there are unidentified equipments.
5)If you are a strong and idestructible ship you are not going to die against a weak ship (like in a rouguelike if you are a lv50 beastmaster you are not going to die against a goblin)
5)There are quests.
6)Many enemy ships.
7)the game is only half developed, so I bet that there will be some other rogue-like feature.

Let's say that this game is Diablo-like:
many people say that Diablo is a rougue-like, other people say that it isn't.

Diablo is very un roguelike considering its main draw's being multiplayer play and pvp combat. If you play ladder, its much more like a mmo with an economy and whatnot. Also your analaysis of transcendance was indeed correct.

Actually, the first thing that comes to my mind when thinking about roguelikes is the graphics, or lack thereof. So it's a RPG all right, but not really roguelike IMO :)
