What are some good ways for a drakeling to trigger that speed boost from fire?

Explosion trap, kinda risky, could have some item loss. I wonder if door explosions give the speed boost.

Casting fireball? Or does it have to be improved fireball and hit you?

Getting hit by a fire breath from a creature?

Getting hit by an enemy spell that is of the fire element (ie lich)?

Also, how long does the speed bonus from these things last, how fast does it decrease, and what is the HP loss?

Don't know about regular fireball, but if you drop all equipment somewhere safe, the rest will work I think (possible exception of glowing balls).

No hp loss until you get really fast (ie. only in the ToEF).

AND - what kind of IRON RATION weights as much as an iron shield?! A dinner for four, oven included? ;)"

Normal fireball never hits you, so that shouldn't work.
You drop the golden ball.
You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.
Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?"
Which direction? (123456789) 4
Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated.
You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd!

Alchemy explosion is the easiest way for those who have the skill - mix any two herbs and you'll get a lovely fireball. Simply take off any equipment you don't want destroyed (fireproof blanket will protect things in your pack). Crystals of fire also work if you throw them next to you. I always save crystals of fire for drakelings coming out of D49.

You can get the added heat damage outside the tower if you get speed high enough. Kicks in after you've got about 200 extra speed. A regen item will normally negate the effects. The boosted speed normally lasts a decent amount of time - enough to, say, clear D50. Not sure of the actual quantification though.

Wands of fire also will work.
