I thought that the number of artifacts was limitted by your level ((# artifacts * 3) - 9), or does that only apply to pre/post crowning? New character went straight to Hole in the Wall, and found Long Sting in the Black Market (for ~160,000 gold pieces) Later, at level 9, I found Purifier in in the level above the Darkforge. |

The level limit purely applies to pre and post crowning - minimum 8 + 3n (where n is the number of generated artifacts). Random artifact from other sources can happen at any level, anywhere (well, assuming danger level is sufficient). Waldenbrook, the dwarven shopkeeper, mumbles: "I'd offer 9 gold pieces for yer dwarven child corpse." |

For a while, I thought that I could improve my chances of generating artifacts in Darkforge, if I had a good exp. level vs artifacts generated ratio. I would start games in the ID, and get many exp. levels, sometimes if I got lucky with spellbooks, I would even go hunting for greater molochs. Then i simply teleport raided Darkforge, or if powerful enough, just cleared it. After doing this several times, I came to the conclusion that if high exp. levels and low # of artifacts generated helps to generate more random artifacts, it isn't much. Put me in the 'fool filter', where I belong! [Edited 1 time, last edit on 2/12/2008 at 19:41 (GMT -5) by gut] |

" low # of artifacts generated helps to generate more random artifacts" This is a fact. But only because there are more artifacts to choose from if few have been generated... |

In that case it only applies to randomly generated artifacts. And trying to reduce the number of randomly generated artifacts so you can get randomly generated artifacts is inherently counterintuitive. Higher character level means a higher chance for pre- and suffixes, so there's some possible benefit for waiting out on darkforge. If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away. Higher exp. level, and luck intrinsics are worth waiting for. But limiting the number of GUARANTEED artifacts generated, is in my oppinion, not helpful when raiding Darkforge. Put me in the 'fool filter', where I belong! |
