I'm playing a Dark elf Assassin. I'm Level 23, Dual wielding a Sword of Sharpness and the Sword of Nonnak. I have 2 blessed rings of Regen under the elemental gauntlets. I'm scared to die and lose my favorite char. I've gotten farther with him than any other. I've need to do the tower but IDK if i'm ready.... help/advice.

I think you are probably ready for the tower.
The only monster that should pose a real threat,
would be the ACW himself.

I don't know what items you have to work with.
Of special interest, do you have potions of
blindness or confusion? Do you have any useful
wands, particularly wands of paralyzation, acid,
or poison? Are you resistant to fire already?
Are you dedicated to the idea of dual wielding?
It costs more energy, and gives less DV than
fighting with one weapon plus a shield.

Well, in general you want to have 4 sources of
fire resist. Elemental gauntlets plus the RoTHK
gives 2, eating a drake or dragon corpse will
give the other 2. Some means of confusion resist
for the ACW. Potions of blindness (cursed potions
of invisibility) to fling at the ACW , to disable
him. Blessed potions of extra healing are vital.

If you keep a buffer of grues/demons in between
yourself and the ACW, he won't have an opportunity
to use his bolt spells on you. Use wands of
poison and acid, to damage him through the monster
shields. If it comes to close combat, lead with
potions, as they are 100% effective. Then try
wands. If you have to melee him, I would highly
recommend to lure him to previous dungeon level
to do it. Teleportation is not allowed on the
orb guardian level.

If you want more advice, there is a complete
assasin's guide already posted on this forum.
http://adom.brinkster.net/forum/messages.asp?thread=5600&start=53011&page=1&tmp=53322

Also, read up on the cat lord, before facing
him. I think he kills as many PC's as the
ACW.

How much HP do you have? You'd need at least 200 I'd say. And your sword of sharpness is no good - it'll melt in the tower. Any other weapons you can use? As gut says, you're best off with a weapon and shield. Dragon slaying ammo is handy for the wyrm too (it'll burn if you don't keep it in your pack till you need it though).

With the two rings of regen and the gauntlets you'll be okay for heat damage, though you won't be able to use w commands. If you have intrinsic fire resistance (from a corpse) then you can get by with just one of those rings.

You have any good one off healing items? Some of the monsters in there can pack a nasty punch. Dragon slaying ammo is handy for the wyrm too. Blessed potions of extra/ultra healing can be vital, or a pile of blessed spenseweed.

With only the sword of Nonnak I wouldn't try the tower, personally. The golden gladius is better, but you've probably alread traded that away. Maybe you should look for some eternium swords? Checked Darkforge yet?
You drop the golden ball.
You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.

The ToEF is no problem, but than again you use melee. Its going to be tough for you because of that corruption, unless of course you have a means of disabling the ACW, and its groupies, if so than you should only worry about the fire itself.
You attack the Ancient pink dragon with all of your force, but do not mange to harm it! The Ancient Pink Dragon breaths a deathray, poision, fire, acid, ice, lightning, water, corruption, missle, petrefication, and stun breath at you. All of your equipment is torn apart! You die...

hmmm I wasn't planning on using the sword of sharpness in the tower. So im not opposed to using Shields. I'm pretty sure I have an Eternium shield and an Eternium sword stored somewhere cause I just cleared darkforge. But I wasn't sure if eternium equipment would melt. I was just gonna use the Sword of Nonnak. Also should i scrap the Sword of Sharpness for an eternium weapon for good?

I like the idea of using pots. I have a bunch of cursed invis pots and confusion pots.

I have 1 wand of acid with 4 charges i doubt that will be enough.

I am intrinsically resistant to fire thats 2 and the elemental gauntlets are 1. I think i can deal with the rest of the fire through the regen rings.

Ideally how many Blessed fire proof blankets should i be using to protect my wands pots and herbs?

As long as you dump EVERYTHING you don't NEED (top level of Darforge or Old Barbarian's clearing are good). One blessed blanket should do it.

And I'd wear the RoTHK instead of the 2nd regen ring.

I usually do the ToEF in two runs. The first to explore and dig through to the temple (no pots or slayer ammo). The second to kill the wyrm. Sometimes a third to finish clearing if I need the xp.

Eternium won't melt. In general situations I'd probably stick with the sword of sharpness for the higher damage, but keep the eternium in your pack as a backup and for using against corrosive or fire-breathing monsters.

If you put more charges on the wand of acid by dipping it in booze it could come in useful.

One regen ring is all you need, or one fire resisistance ring (or the ring of the high kings). Two regen rings is overdoing it slightly. You might want a ring of mental stability to help with the confusion attacks.

2 fireproof blankets is sufficient, especially if blessed, but I usually prefer to have at least 3.

SinX, you seem like more or less the same level of ADOM player as me. You're a little better, but at my rate of improvement I'll probably be doing my first ToEF run not too far in the future.

Anyway, I'm scared of the ToEF :-/... so I'm very curious to see how you do. Good luck tonight and please post on how it worked out.

Lack of fireproof blankets will not kill you in there, annoying as it is. Be sure to take the water orb with you for healing if all else fails.

I would use zero regen rings while fighting wyrm. Ring of damage/slaying will be better, because you need to kill it as fast as possible. If it hits you with energy ray, you probably need to use major healing (blessed extra/ultra healing or water orb) anyway. Of course use the potions first, as they increase you max HPs too. So regen is no good.

If you have good sword skill then the sword of Nonnak will be decent enough - along with damage rings. Extra +5 Wi gives some HP and more importantly better confusion resistance. Poison the weapon, of course.

Remember to use every trick you got for this fight - you can always stock up in the casino. I would surely use dragon slaying ammo - knowing that it will burn - because it is NOW you need it, and probably will find in casino or some 30-40 vaults anyway.

And good night, and good luck

I'm pretty sure what he meant, was to use every
beneficial item in your possesion, to kill the
ACW. Don't think about 'saving' it for later,
there may not be one. If you use all of your
potions of extra healing, wand charges, or whatever
it's ok. You can REPLINESH your inventory at the
casino, after the ACW is dead.

Use the sword of sharpness, but keep the eternium sword with you always just in case. It's not a two-handed one, isn't it? You're not skilled using that.

Haha!!!!! Its been like a month since I first posted this thread. I will recap on what happened. The night I went for the tower I made it to the 4th floor without trouble but then almost got killed by a fire giant king. I ran and got discouraged. So i put the character aside for a while to play other characters and to play super smash brothers brawl which came out on the tenth.

Within the last couple days i picked up the character again. I decided to prepare more. I got +10 to my strength thanks to stone giants, +4 to toughness thanks to morgia, and got +60 to speed with wilderness quicklings. A dive into ID produced all the wands of paralysis and potions or confusion I could ask for. I was getting bored. So i said "Ok this is it no more running if I die I die." To my surprise the tower was ridiculously easy. I just ran straight to the temple slaughtering everything in my path. I turned invisible dug in the to the temple then blasted a few charges of a wand of farslaying. The wyrm woke up and I sprang into action. The blood of any chump that came near me was used to paint the corridor.

Finally the wyrm appeared. I fired quarrels of slaying at it until it was 2 squared away. They did nothing. It fired something like 10 energy rays while coming towards me. To my delight I dodge everyone of them (I love alertness and 37 dex). Then i threw potion of blindness and tried to melee it. After being hit twice accidentally I decided to try somthing else. I Paralyzed it then went berserk with dual wielded sword of sharpness and eternium long sword. It fell in 3 hits.

I feel great!! I'm hoping for my first win

Thanks for all the strategies and tactics given to me by everyone here. I couldn't have done it without you.

You improved speed by 60 before entering the tower? Talk about overkill :P Well done on laying waste to the wyrm, you shouldn't face any serious challenges for a while now.

Coincidentally, today I also did the ToEF for the first time. In fact I just got done handing the ACW corpse to Guth'Alak about 5 minutes ago.

It was no-where near as hard as I expected it to be, either. My character went in there as a level 19 necromancer with magic mapping and teleport, which helped. I didn't even need fireproof blankets. And I just turned invisible, put a fire demon between me and the ACW, and blasted it with Frost Bolts until it failed a few resistance checks. I had to pray once, but I was never in any real trouble. I also gained 3 levels, which helps.

This is probably a lot harder with a melee-based character. But it seems like that, as long as you take your time, do several trips, and have some mode of turning invisible as well as wand of colds/Frost bolt for the end, it's not all that bad.

Necromancers pwn... I love playing them. I'm pretty sure my first win will be with one. I gotta say that getting this far with an assassin is a much more difficult accomplishment than getting here with a necromancer... good job SinX.

My one concern with this character is that I don't have any SoCR's or thick gauntlets. The mystic screwed me, and I'm also right at 90 days now. I've got 3 potions, but if I get poison hands I'll be in trouble. I might do an ID dive and try and find gauntlets. :-/

Anyway as far as the ToEF goes, I rotate characters when I play... I've got 5 other characters who aren't too far from the ToEF either. We'll see how they work out. :)

Congratulations to both of you! I have yet to get another character started up yet myself, but I am looking forward to trying alot of these challenges again with a melee character. I also gotta tell you SinX, your stats sound like they are pretty good right now...as long as you're careful, you oughta be able to get pretty far!

I've never played Necromancers myself Worst, but the lvl50 ability oughta be fun if you reach it. Pray for a elemental affinity greater vault (those things rock! Especially when you have a high effectivity, opposite element bolt/ball spell). From the little experience i have those things are amazing for treasure and levels.

Well, good luck to you both! May the RNG be with you! =)

They should be unable to melt. At the very least, they protect themselves from melting as long as they work :)

You should remember that it doesn't matter whether it's the elemental gauntlets you wear or not - any pair of gauntlets will protect the rings under them for as long as they themselves aren't destroyed, so fireproof gauntlets - like red dragon-hide gauntlets - should provide protection as well. At the very least if your ring of ice fails it should take out your non-fireproof gauntlets, on the second failure maybe the ring of ice.
