Roll scumming is tedious since I like to have Wand or Salamander starsign too (or maybe Cup). I'll settle so any Le over 15. Teleport starting spell seems rare - I always hope it'll show up soon enough. After all I have to hope for that on offensive spells and other stuff too. Thinking about it I liekly should have gotten the teleport wand before the graveyard anyway, in case I needed an escape. Ah well...

Gave some drakelings a go - the toughness is amazing but the Mana is low, especially annoying when it stops access to PP talents. Low Le I don't mind so much except for the lack of skill increases (and drakelings do have such tasty skills). Just need a bit of luck with a well-rounded char and it could do well. And obviously the Tower would be a breeze, if I got that far...

Well, could do with some advise here. I've spent all day sending wizards to early graves (usually in the dwarven graveyard) but finally have one that's rolling. 10k turns, just saved Khelly, and am now heading to the Water Temple. Level 16, 155 HP, decent spells (invis, darkness, several offensives). Drakeling has been nice for the high toughness potential - means what herbs I've found haven't been wasted. Ma only 20 though (started 15). Only just had Teleport now too, so lots of time wasted journeying. Found Executor in DarkForge but had to sac it to get enough piety for pool-sipping - thankfully the pools were very nice to me.

Now I have the Tower coming up... and it may be difficult, or it may be easy. Invis and frost bolt means the normal goons aren't much worry. 100 Alertness and inflated speed might make the ACW quite easy, and I have stun ray trained up in preparation too. But I don't have intrinsic fire resistance or the RotHK, so I may have to rely on the Crown of Science. No fireproof blankets or regen items, so will have to do some very quick in and outs. Low Wi too from a bug corpse (was hungry, had to eat it or pray - made the wrong choice I deem), so will have to stand next to the ACW and whittle him down with ice ball.

All sorts of dangers here as you can imagine. Thoughts?

Grr... In a moment of cleverness I thought hey, I don't need the ancient dwarf any more, maybe I can kill him for the shield of raw steel. The corruption is manageable and the shield is very very nice... in fact, it gives fire immunity! So I offed him, and in spite of using ventriloquism the whole place went hostile - no bother though. Went to see Kherab and it turns out you have to kill the druid first, and I have no way of achieving that. Damn it...

Found I had a wand of acid, so I melted the druid. Turned out the shield reward is for him, not Thrundarr, so making dwarftown hostile was maybe a mistake (since right now I could do with Waldy's help in attaining the gold for a crowning). But ah well, with the power of the shield the Tower has fallen. The couple of times the Wyrm stumbled into me he didn't hurt me (41 PV is decent). With 14k turns on the clock I think I have a decent shot at finishing in under 20k - we'll see how it goes. Can't believe I'm only level 18 right now - even a troll might be a little higher :P

So tempted to keep on using this brilliant shield - even tempted by the amulet in fact. The corruption would be too high though - got my first already (just horns). Won't have the unicorn to clear me later so the 6 SoCRs from Khelly are all I have to rely on (mystic gave me PoGA and 2 x training, bleh). Besides, I don't need it. Just want some acid ball now! Casino, here I come...

Looks like I logged in a bit late here. Anyway, you can kill the
druid without making Terinyo hostile, just chop down one of his
trees. He should go berserk, and no one will blame you for
defending yourself. Mix up a potion of blindness, and you should
have him.

Will Kherab even reward you without having recieved the
quest beforehand?

Put me in the 'fool filter', where I belong!

Well didn't have any hatchets on me for lumberjacking - been avoiding all weapons unless they look sellable. Don't care about a hostile Terinyo anyway.

Passed the Eternal Guardian, though he brought me down to 55 HP and reduced my adamantium ring mail of speed from 9 PV to 2. Luckily I had just found a WDSM anyway... Now to have a look round the casino. Just under 16k turns, level 18 still. On my last speedrun I was at level 31! I've cast enough SoA to last the game, and will do the same with invis in bits and bobs. Ooh, and found some more morgia too.

Edit: There's a glowing wand in there for 250k. Now to gamble or to steal...?

Wand of wishing, 5 chargs. Got a five finger discount of course... Spellbooks of acid ball, pairs of seven league boots. Potions of willpower might be useful. Maybe magic mapping and farsight to make things quicker... Any other suggestions?

This is only the second or third time I've even seen one of these wands :)

Done, though with a lot of pained effort! 20,700 turns, 80 million points. Not quite caught up to you yet gut, but I'll get there some day ;)

Two greater vaults were undead and left utterly untouched. Got to D48 at level 19, which was just silly. I was desperate for xp and so cleared the Earth temple and killed Sharad-Waador, but still only had 300 HP going into the Mana temple. Felt sure I was going to die... Managed to stay out of line of Nuurgy and acid balled him to oblivion.

No uselessness potion - oh well. D50 had two threat rooms - ghosts and greater fire elementals. I stayed the hell away from them. Balors were hard enough going in at level 28. Prayers had run out so I was casting from HP the whole time (not too hard with 2 regen items). Cleared the side rooms and pulled the levers to lure them out one by one. Without the Water Orb I didn't have big balls initially and had to cast acid ball right next to them. Was getting hit hard by the balors and eating through my PoEH/PoUH until a level up gave me a Wi increase, thus letting me use my last wish for potions of Wi to get me to 32 along with my amulet of perserverence (I was saving the Wish for wands of destruction in case they proved absolutely necessary). After that it was a bit smoother. Acid ball ran out so I switched to ice, but the L50 power kicked in on killing the last balor giving me acid ball to finish off Fisty.

Interestingly never got the rune-covered trident, even though I'd told Blup where his mom is.

And yeah, I never bothered naming the character properly.

Edit: Hmm, 1073 monsters killed - that's gotta be a new low for non-bards. Only about 60% of them were actual random monsters.

Oh and tensest moment in the game was when I entered the Air temple level, opened the door and was confronted by about 30 quickling queens. For a level 18 char that is not easy to handle. With some ice balls and magic lock I managed to push them back and seal them in but it was a very touch and go moment...

That beat all my attempts except for Blizzard, who was just
rediculously lucky. Funny you went to D:48 before Sharad, I
wonder if it was easier? You probably could have beaten the
whole thing, even without the WoW. I wonder how many turns
that even 5 charges could shave off?

Looking through the .flg, I notice you had your shield
skill at 7! Wow, how did you have time to do that?! I usually
finish the game with it at 1 or 2 at best. I have tried to
do this challenge with drakelings before, and failed
miserably. How did you overcome the mediocre Le stat? I
notice that Le was only modified by +5, so that means it
started out as 17. How did you even LEARN ball spells at
all, CoS? Also, was the ToEF easier or harder with drakelings?

And without even stopping to 'save himself'. So it's a 'true'
victory to boot! : )

I didn't find the D46 split initially, so I went and killed the anomaly guardians before heading back to Earth Temple and then Unreal Caves. There's no way I could have gone so fast without the WoW. I did find a spellbook of Acid Ball shortly after, but the Farsight and Magic Map I got from it was very helpful. Without the willpower I might never have beaten the balors or Nuurag-Vaarn either (though I stupidly forgot to get the Sword of Nonnak, which might have alleviated that problem - additionally not eating those bugs would have been wise).

Found two +7 DV shields early on. God lots of marks short-range balling steel golems (up to level 4 or so) and the rest was from D50. Le 17 really isn't much of a hindrance - my previous 25k turns gnome only started with about 18. It trains up fairly fast initially, and by level 10 or so learning ball spells is easy enough. Only used the CoS for book-reading once - didn't really make much difference. Low Mana at the start was more of a nuisance I found - couldn't get the Charged talent initially (which seems to be very effective I must say).

Tower... well, it wouldn't have been hard anyway to be frank, even though I did do it at level 17. Invis and frost bolt make everything easy, and stunning reduces the threat from the Wyrm. The high speed was good for getting *to* him through the mobs, and also reduced the number of times he stumbled into me, but it would have been quite doable regardless (especailly with the high PV I had - go shield of raw steel!) Similarly the damage wasn't much of a hindrance since I was in for such a short time. Overall I'd say it was a little easier with drakelings, though it did restrict the levels I gained.

Yeah, all done in a single run - took 9 or 10 hours. I kept telling myself I'll save in just a minute, just after doing this important bit, etc... Just spent all of today sleeping after that :P

Ooh, other noticable mention is the eternal guardian - brought me very low on HP when passing. Still worth it though - skipping the HK tomb shaves off a lot of turns. Could still shave more though if I didn't have to ID hop for books (spent about 2k turns doing that), and having teleport before Khelly would be brilliant. Also forgot to try and inflate the score by making the bosses invis - I was a bit too worries about dying and such. Might come back to this challenge later...

a victory in ~10k turns?!? I bow to your accomplishment!

I'm doing a speedrunlike thingie with Ultra in mind. I've already done *everything* but barney or leveled to 45 at 56k turns, so i expect a win under 65k. I'm ready to kill absolutely anything, but the char is only lvl 36!!! I've slow-monster-killed every big guy but barney(still alive), nuraag vaarn(was being attacked by his own panicking critters, so i had to end him before they do) and multi-headed chaos dragon(was just too frightening) and I'm still 9 levels short from 45. Any ideas how to level without too serious alignment drop(shopkeeper and his pals would get me to 50 but then i would be c-)? I'd expect to be at lvl 40 or 41 when barney is dead along with the ancient karmic wyrm.

I haven't found any greater vaults, nor high level threat/tension rooms aside the DH2, i've already killed all the orb guardians and all the grues from d48.

I've had terrible luck throughout the game, no wishes; I got bored and went for the cow axe and library(yes, it's a "speedrun") from where i found Aols. Not a single greater vault, and library did not contain any GB's, no wishes!!, horrible books, no good shops and no wishes... Basically only times luck has struck is when urruir gave me 8 poga for killing his good counterpart and when DH2 had a fire grue threat room(lotsa xp). It even took me 10k mthfckn turns to start the game(tele, heal spell, slow monster)

On the other hand, I still have 19 socr, 1 pocc, 3 orb guard corpses and no corruptions, so any ultra win is possible. And the char is female DE necro named 'adsfa'(might change it later though...).

I can kill the water dragon, but that's chaotic act right? Does it drop alignment drastically?

EDIT: lvl 2 had 2 titans 2 GM, 1 greater titan 45lvl now. Unexpected difficulties with xssxsxsxsxxsxs, but it fell with mindless whacking with the cow axe and rotm, truly a mighty combination!! I'm at 58k turns now!

Wow, nice going Jhonka - By level 2 do you mean you went back to the Dwarven Halls, or do you mean the BDC?

Rereading, I guess you meant the BDC - never underestimate how much XP they can contain :)

Axed EM and xssxsxsxsx and since I decided to go for avatar of balance win I also axed the water dragon. That got me from l to c!! I've already been crowned champion of balance and now trying to find a mtfkng torch ;(. Torch is the only thing keeping me from winning at the moment. I'm at 64k turns so no chance of 65k win :(. Good thing though the 65k is just an arbitrary number of moves i decided to aim at.

Gremlin caves turned out to be torchless as well as great gift shoppe and hmv shop. Where should i look for one?!?

Damn, torches are actually pretty rare now I think about it... I take it you fed the Phial to the ratling... Hmm, you could try buying out the BM and the HMV shops a few times.... likely to be turn consuming though...

I suspect the fastest way (not very fast) would be to scum the BDC for a wish.
