Hi everybody, I somehow got interested in this game again, so I'm back, and playing a druid. Something weird just happened, and I've never heard of this before, so I figured I'd come and share it.

I was just going through the ancient dwarf's quests, enjoying how easy they were for once (I only had to kill a large spider, and found SLBs in the Animated Forest). But, after I became champion of the arena, the ancient dwarf told me to kill a goblin to prove my valour! He didn't give me any treasure. He didn't even say "congratulations." After I killed that goblin, THEN I got my fourth quest reward, and then I got the fifth quest as usual. Is this new? My only theory as to why it happened is that the druid quest code is weird in general. For instance, I didn't get to choose between knowledge or power after killing Keethrax - all I got was an ammy of balance and bracers of toughness.

You are a druid.
You've entered the animated forest before getting the second quest.

I guess you forgot to ask him for the fourth quest before becoming the champion of the Arena. I did stuff like this few times (most often forgetting to get the reward for Bloodax quest and hitting the closed portal while on the dive).

I did not enter the animated forest until the second quest was assigned.

I did not become champion of the arena until the fourth quest was assigned.

You are both assuming I'm stupid, and I don't appreciate that.

Let me spell this out more clearly - here's what the dwarf told me to do, as I asked him about "quests":

1. Kill a large spider.
-Finished, and was rewarded for it.
2. Cross the animated forest.
-Finished, and was rewarded for it.
3. Clear out the ogre caves
-Finished, and was rewarded for it.
4. Become champion of the arena
-Finished, and was NOT rewarded for it.
5. Kill a goblin.
-Finished, and was given the ARENA REWARD.
6. Kill the greater demon
-Finished, and got Big Punch.

Weird, eh?

We don't assume you're stupid, just that you're on our level and forget stuff.
Seems a bug made the elder dwarf forget that he gave you the 4th quest. His age justifies that bug ;)

BTW - Druids don't get to choose between power and knowledge, they get a special reward.

I'm putting my money on not receiving quest number four in the first place.

Perhaps you killed all the ogres, went to get arena-quest, typed quest and hit enter two times. Forgot that reward comes before new quest and went for the arena.

Sorry, nevermind the "stupid" comment; I'm not sure where it came from.

Sulangatori: I guess that could be possible. Would I get the same pile of equipment as a reward for just killing another random monster?

Though, I'm still pretty sure I was told to become champion of the arena. Maybe I've just played this game so much that I now see text before it reaches the screen.

A druid also gets a ring of minor elemental mastery
for completing the druid quest. In fact, I think
it's the best reward item. The bracers are nice,
but morgia makes them obsolete. The amulet is
occasionally nice. It's good if you want to kill
the EG a few times, or do some other chaotic acts,
but mostly useless.

The guidebook is a bit misleading about that. It
states: "The PC may choose between "knowledge"
and "power.". Then goes on to state: "Guth'Alak
provides additional rewards to druids who complete
this quest. Druids do in fact not get 'additional'
rewards, they get alternate rewards. Really
cruddy ones, if you ask me. The spellbook is much
more beneficial to druids.

I've never heard of the dwarf quest anomaly that
you've described, but I have recently encountered
some anomalies of my own. Perhaps when your
current game is won (hopefully!), you can try
to duplicate those results with another druid.

How does morgia make bracers of toughness obsolete? They'll always give four extra points of toughness and thus quite a bit of extra HP and PV, right? You just have to take them off to train toughness to the max.
You drop the golden ball.
You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.
Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?"
Which direction? (123456789) 4
Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated.
You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd!

Indeed you are correct. For me, the value of
the bracers is reduced by finding morgia, but not
obsolete. If they were +7 TO, they would ne nice,
but not the standard +4 variety. I usually leave
those in the pack, or dip into a PoE.

At this point I'm pretty sure that I just didn't take the arena champion quest in the first place. So, I guess I haven't found anything new afterall.

Yeah, I was hoping for the spellbook of Nether Bolt, but I've found uses for each of the other items the druid gave me. I had to clear the puppy cave and Keethrax dungeon with about 50 max hp, but bracers of toughness +7 instantly put that over 100.

At that point of the game most of my chars will not have found any bracers, so the bracers are useful... but I'd probably still prefer the spellbook.
If you're feeling happy, don't worry, it'll go away.
