Hi,

I have a l50 character, who needs to get the trident (got everything else). I'm aligned as C and nothing I do seem to get me to neutral. I gave 800k to the priest in dwarf town, I've tried saccing small amounts of gold at neutral & lawful altars and keep getting the "nothing else happens" msg.

My stones are stuck at about 3700 on the left..

I hope this is not a bug... help, anyone?

Try going to toef and summon a pet there and heal it constantly while wearing blessed amulet of order. You could also try donating more money to the priest in dwarf town. I think 1 million was the minimum amount to get changed to NC.

Keep trying at the altar - it will work eventually. Just 1 gold piece at a time, and only wear artifacts in your inventory.

Got the stones to 3000 or so by giving food, gold to beggars and saccing on a L altar, which converted to N altar (typoed 100 to 1000 a couple of times.. meh).

N altars seem to do nothing (You feel spiritially invincible).

Gotta find another L altar, but I'll try to give 1mil gp to the priest first... Good thing my character has Law @ 100 (potion of education lol), makes stuff easier.

Btw, giving 20 lizards to a beggar gave me the message from Law skill (you feel as you are acting in proper form or something), but giving blessed stomafillia or a heap of 20 large rations didn't. Does that mean it didn't have an effect?

Giving 1kgp to beggars didn't spawn the message, either.

On a side note: I made a minor plunder as I entered the white unicorn grove as a C - bye bye free cleansing. Not a big problem, though, as I have 10 or so SoCR (only one ultra ending on me though, and IIRC andor almost got me the last time with his corruption attacks. My char is a lot tougher this time, though.)

giving 1milj had no effect. Wearing blessed amulet of order atm and will try to fiddle with altars later.

If I can't get this shit right until it's day 150 (106 now) I'll just get a normal ending...
Damn, getting to neutral has NEVER been such a pain in the ass.

You could try self-flaggelation also, using a whip in the tool slot. Only tried that at earlier levels though.

You need a good whip to get through your PV. Rings of doom can help reduce PV, but be careful you don't whip yourself to death.

Well it's easy to change pv to the lvl you want by putting on/off eq.

At high levels your toughness is so huge that you can't whip through your natural PV. Whip of slaughtering helps immensely.

yeah i've changed to lawful at lvl 48 before but never at full blown 50. i did self flaggelation whatever. it's gonna take a while but it'll work. take off all your gear and set tactics to berserk. if you have any gear with [+0 -2] minus pv then put it on and beat the crap out of yourself. it'll take hundreds of successfull blows but you should get it. you can't whip yourself to lawful + though. just keep killing undead and healing pets you'll get it eventually.

Do pv really get that high with high toughness? Doing berserk at lvl 50 should reap some really high +dmg modifiers so it goes past your natural pv.

Damage modifiers don't matter. The whip will only cause damage based on its dice roll when in the tool slot. Scrolls of increase melee damage and such thus also don't make any difference. It'll still be 1d3.

And yeah, your PV can get huge from natural toughness.

how stupid I am forgetting the weapon doesn't get any damage modifiers in toolslot! A bit of the course now but how big do pv get naturally? I've personally never thought of that.

I've seen trolls start with 4 PV just from their natural toughness. Once you get it in the fifties you're talking PV in the 10s or 20s. That means you need either a whip of slaughtering or some rings of doom (they reduce PV by 5).

I tested once, the PV gains from the To stat. I
think it was something like 1 point of PV, for
every 2 points of To you have over 20. Been a
while though, so I don't remember for sure.

A thought about alignment switching. If you have
chosen the carpenter quest, you might be able to
get some potions of ultra healing, at the same
time as alignment switching. Just create an alarm
trap in the room with Jharod, and lure a couple
of animals to it to fight. Keep healing them and
chatting to Jharod, and he should keep giving you
PoUH. You can save them, or drink them right away
for a small boost to your max HP's.

You get one extra PV for every even toughness score *starting* with 20. So gut is almost right.
You drop the golden ball.
You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.
Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?"
Which direction? (123456789) 4
Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated.
You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd!
