This has stumped be for ages, what the theory for duel wielding?
If anyone can help that would be great.
if you know things like how weight effects it,
and what bonuses for whatl level.
Liek said before, anything helps.

Dualwielding is explained in the manual under the Classes section in conjunction with the Ranger.

Hehe, more time to be wasting.
I was doing the maths, and wondering, is the point to get it -0?
Its makes no sense to me.
The theory for its is:
Skill/20
-6 for non-ranger
- Max 0((Weight of two weapons/10)-6)
So for instance with 100 skill, and duel wielding scimitars means you -2.
What does the minus 2 mean?
Sorry for being anoying. :P

If you have 100 skill points in Two Weapon Fighting the to-hit adjustment for the scimitars will be 100/20+(-6)+MAX{0, [({40+40}/10)-6]} = 5-6+MAX(0, 2) = 5-6+2 = +1.

> What does the minus 2 mean?

It is substracted from the to-hit of both the weapons you are wielding, i. e. you won't score a hit as often with one of the weapons as you would if you were wielding only one weapon.

And dexterity, if I'm not mistaken.
You drop the golden ball.
You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.
Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?"

Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated.

anything below 60 stones is good (tow eternium scimitars or just spear and dagger).
Rangers have discount on weight penalties, but since i prefer two phase daggers anyway...

The game manual didn't mention that so I ran a quick test with the help of AdomBot.

Surprisingly Dexterity didn't affect melee to-hit. It only increases missile to-hit.

Heh, interesting how something I've presumed out of logic for so many years turns out to be completely false :)

One of the D&D relics, I presume. I've never understood why I had to take an extra feat to have my chance to hit affected by Dexterity... Balance reasons, probably.

(I have no effing clue how to play real D&D; this is based on Neverwinter Nights)

Alas, weapon finise scars the mind of everyone who plays dex based people in D&D.

So High Str, light weapons, and be ranger for duel wielding, is the summeray of this thread.

High Strength is not necessary. The majority of to-hit and a sizable part of damage comes from weapon skill. For dual-wielding, the skill Two Weapon Combat is at least as, if not even more crucial. In fact, refrain from dual-wielding at all unless the skill has been trained up to 80, preferably 100, which is achieved quickly for rangers. Then you can dual-wield effectively, though quite honestly "sword'n board", in this case referring to any melee weapon plus a shield is generally superior because of the enormous boost to defense shields provide in ADOM - but that's the crazy optimizer talking ;)

There is an exception to the to-hit calculation however.

Dexterity affects the damage of whips while Strength does not have any effect on it.

Update: Dexterity doesn't affect the to-hit of whips, strength does. Only damage is increased as dexterity increases. I just tested this.
