What's the normal cap on potions of booze that you can get from beggers?

In my current game, I've got an easy alchemy recipe using booze, but I only got 1 potion of booze from 1 begger.
I tried with 4 different beggars and varying amounts of donation, but only ever got rumors after the 1st beggar's 1 booze even from the other beggers.
I seem to remember getting more booze in the past.

Also, off-topic, I noticed a blurb in the guidebook about yergius selling thieves picks.
I've never seen that before, and I tried to buy a set.
I saw no option from him about buying picks however, at both N and C alignments.
Has anyone ever bought picks from him?

Does your character know how to pick locks? Oh, wait... Ok, then doesn't he have thieves picks already?

Assassins, for example, are always offered to buy a set of thieves picks from him - this option appears every time you 'C'hat with him before Yergius even greets you. This class starts without thieves picks, but knows how to pick locks. The price... well, I usually get something like 3500-4500 gp - "errr, no, thanks". Maybe, it's so high just because of my habit to play dark elven assassins - I don't know yet.

Oh my, I'm so lonely and need some company

Pretty sure any N or C type dude who knows how to pick locks put has no picks should get the offer - it comes as a Y/N choice at start of dialog, before training choices IIRC

There is no limit on beggar juice. Give one ~50
gold, chat, and if you get no juice, repeat until
you do. They are useless after they give you one,
so you should either kill them, or lead them into
the wilderness. You can keep decimating all
(non-shopkeeper) life in Lawenilothehl to force
beggar re-stocking.

I've read on RGRA that it is better to give 30 gp first and then give 1 gp repeatedly until you get a potion.

Well, that's if you're extremely frugal with cash, since sometimes it takes less than 50 gp. However normally you'll have enough gp to spare that you can afford to be more generous :P

40 has never failed me.
You drop the golden ball.
You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west.
Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?"
Which direction? (123456789) 4
Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated.
You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd!

50 gp at one go has often failed me.

I guarantee you, I know how to pick locks (~25 skill), have no picks, and am very C (not yet c-, but close, I think), and when chatted, I only receive the training options; no option for pick sale.
I've never gotten this option before, either, and so I wanted to buy some picks after reading about it in the guidebook...

I have gotten many potions of booze from beggers before, but in this game, only 1 of the 4 beggers in town gave me a booze, and the others did not, even though I've collectively given them around 3000 gp.

I am playing a female dark elf necro btw, and so have very little charisma and appearance (both < 10).
I don't know if those stats factor into either situation.

I am not aware of any impact that stats would
have upon beggars. I know that a beggar won't
give booze if he is hostile. Perhaps just kill the
beggars, or lead them out of town, and try a new
batch.

Easy enough to turn them non-hostile; give them food.

Don't know about stat impact, but this is the first time I've had such trouble, so it's all I can think of.
Even orcs start with better charisma/appearance than dark elves.

Maybe for the picks selling, you need to be a thief/assassin?
Has anyone seen the buy picks option for a different class?

Ok.
I went back after making more money, and got my booze from the other 3 beggers.

Interestingly, it took several hundred gp on one of those beggers before he gave up the booze.

I think charisma or appearance has a definite effect on this now.
My female dark elf necro has a 2 charisma and a 6 appearance.

Still no picks from yergius though.

Very interesting. The guidebook seems to have
it wrong on this. It states:

"Yergius also sells thieves' picks to non-lawful PCs with the Pick Locks skill who have no Thieves' Picks."

It's worth a guidebook update, if anyone wants to
bother.
