How about a thread where people can gloat about the excellent starting equipment they receive? Reason for starting this is of course being my Dwarven Monk starting with +3, +3 sandals. Excellent. |

That's amazing. I had a high elven druid start with a 5PV leather armor. Also had a dwarven priest start with 4PV iron boots. Not bad. Usually gnomish boots you start with are pretty good too. Gnomish boots have 2 DV to begin with, haven't they? What I love is when I start a game with an elven fighting class (like weaponsmith) and get a [+0,+8] elven chain mail. These things are awesome. Oh, and vulnerable to acid traps. C'est la vie. You drop the golden ball. You kick the golden ball. It slides to the west. Suddenly Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, appears! "That's not how you play Quidditch! are you even listening?" Which direction? (123456789) 4 Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is hit by a bolt of acid! Harry Potter, the apprentice wizard, is annihilated. You hear the ecstatic cries of a large crowd! |

i've started with a spellbook of wish once. not exactly the greatest thing in the beginning though. i've had elves with [+0,+8] elven chain mails. that's a nice gift. |

I've been trying speedruns with archers lately, generally running into trouble around the Griffyard (and they're not even particularly fast getting there). Most remarkable one so far was a Candle-born high elven archer who started with elven chain [+0,+8], boots [+0,+2] and a long bow (+4,+4). Soon after starting he found 4 PV gauntlets and some other items that had him up to 20 PV. I think he ended up being frozen by Nonnak... Waldenbrook, the dwarven shopkeeper, mumbles: "I'd offer 9 gold pieces for yer dwarven child corpse." |

Archers probably should use autopickup. Having to pickup every missile they shoot is a pain in the best of circumstances, but on speedrun attempts it's just not FAIR. Put me in the 'fool filter', where I belong! |

I always use autopickup for a wide variety of items. |

I was using autopickup on missiles for the archers, and it was still taking me 8k turns to reach the Griffyard. I imagine archers can't hope for much better than a 30k victory. |
